Making sense of why Celtics nation cant stomach Kobe
I good friend of mine is a Lakers fan. If possible, this guy would have a full fledged bromance with Kobe Bryant. He hates Paul Pierce and everything that has to do with the Celtics. Are basketball discussions ussually end with me "losin it!" (said like George Costanza) because I just cant stomach Kobe Bryant and all the ass kissing that follows him. Being a rational mind, however, it got me thinking for a second. Why do I hate Kobe Bryant so much. Im not just talking like "man I really cant stand this guy because he is so good" I mean like, boy I cant stand the site of this guy. Well, here are my top five reasons why I feel this way; I want to see how the rest of Celtics Nation feels about this. Is it in our genetics to hate the Lakers, or is it something about Kobe that just heightens this anti-Lakerism (made that one up) to the max. Anyways heres my five;
5. The scowl; what is with this guy. I get it your a great basketball player, im really happy you made a 1 in a million shot, but do we really need to see "the scowl" after every made hoop.
4. The Vanessa Bryant family maid incident. Boy did this get my blood pumping. Look, I dont even know If Kobe had anything to do with this, but for someone to make thier house maid reach into a bag of Dog poop to dig up jewlery is beyond me. I blame Kobe for marrying this broad.
3. "Kobe Doin Work".....do I really need to elaborate on this one. Why dont we just change the name "Spike Lee doin work kissin Kobe's ass.
2. The Lack of recognition of Paul Pierces talent. Bryant and Pierce are both from L.A. Both incredibly talented. Both have rings, (Kobe is splittin them with Shaq in my book), but what makes me upset is how come Kobe gets all the glory, yet Paul Pierce always seems 10 steps behind in star power. Say Pierced wins 2 more championships, I still dont think we are gonna see a Spike Lee Joint called "Paul doin Work".
1. The I want Shaq off the team because I wanna be like Mike disease. Thats rite, Dr. DeStefano just prescribed it. This was the topper for me. Lets face it, Shaq left because Mr. Bryant said so. That guy has more pull in the Lakers organization then a World chanpion rower. This also is the number one reason I never wanna see this guy win another championship. And exactly why next to last years championship win, my most recent favorite was Shaq winning it all with Dwayne Wade. It reminded me of a Beyonce song that plays on the radio. I pictured Shaq singing it to Kobe. "you must not know bout me you must no know bout me, I can have another you in a minute matter fact he'll be here in a minute...D Wade". Shaq got the last laugh and said hey Kobe, sorry buddy didnt really need you all that much.
Anyways, Thanks for letting me vent. Please let me know your feelings on this matter!
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

What sickens me is watching the
NBA actively promote this rapist.
He is the Jeter of the NBA—entitled bc he never had to suffer with crap teams before he was handed championships. And, the selfish little prick would have continued to languish as he deserves if Gasol wasn’t handed to the Lakers last season.

And how is that different from the Celtics being handed Garnett? Worse yet, a gift from a former Celtic, McHale.
If not for that, Paul Pierce retires with zippo.
As it is he’ll get one ring, and only that because the refs allowed rugby on the court, not basketball.

I think you’re free to hate Kobe “objectively” for reasons 5, 4, and 1, but if anything 2 and 3 are reasons to hate spike and the media more than anything else.

i completely agree with the media coverage of kobe and the lack of coverage for pierce. i can’t stand to listen to the clowns on espn anymore. i’ve resorted to muting the tv and picking up the orlando magic radio affiliate on the web. at least i don’t have to listen to mike breen declare “kobe really wants this!” anymore

I agree
with all your reasons, but I didn’t even know about #4. What an evil and self-absorbed woman. But what can you say about a woman who stays with a guy after he goes to Colorado to “rehab an injury”. All that aside, I also agree with #5. Maybe a well-placed Dwight Howard elbow could wipe that scowl from his face. But, ya know, he always seems to make that clutch shot. In fact, I love the fact that we won the title last year by pretty much shutting Kobe down.

Many reasons to hate
The main reason : Kobe is such a phony. He`s all humble and soft-spoken when interviewed. That`s all an act. The real Kobe is the one unknowingly caught on tape saying Bynum should be traded, and Buss is a fool.
There are valid reasons why he always got more attention than Pierce : Kobe played his 8 years with Shaq, winning 3 titles, and has been a more athletic & exciting player.
{Kobe is not from LA…he merely plays for LA. He was born in Philly, raised there & Italy}

So being arrogant and obnoxious in an interview will help you stomach him better? Hate on him for his comments about Bynum if you want, but if you want to contrast that with his interview behavior, it seems like you’re trying to pull things out of the air to hate just for the sake of hating.

I also forgot to mention...
1} Kobe`s a backstabber…when arrested for rape, he tells cops that Shaq does the same thing but always pays off his victim quickly to buy her silence.
2} Not one Laker teammate spoke out in Kobe`s behalf to support him during the rape ordeal…what should that be telling you?
3} Kobe is estranged from his parents and siblings…the people who know him best.

Greg Oden = Robert Parish - The only other rookie with more than 500 points, 400 rebounds, and 65 blocks in under 1400 minutes played. Since 1946

you gotta be kidding
Kobe is far from perfect, and I know nothing about the wives of any Celtics players but I’m sure there are a few divas in there as well. Let’s keep the focus on basketball, because the asinine and immature fixation on a player’s private life is what has ruined much of sports reporting. I was happy with 5-7 minutes of scores on the evening news. I never asked for Sportscenter. Just tell me who won and show me the great plays. As for the rest, ESPN, stick your so-called journalism you know where.
I hate the Celtics. You hate the Lakers. It’s forever.
Shaq indeed didn’t need Kobe to win his fourth…but he needed Wade. What’s the difference and why is it so hard to get that point across to the morons who still trot out this stupidity?
Kobe didn’t need Shaq, but he needed Gasol, Odom, Ariza, and Fisher.
Russell needed teammates. I don’t think he would have won much going one on five. It’s a ridiculous argument and anyone who uses it must be oblivious to how stupid he sounds.
At least the Lakers have played the game straight up through the years, unlike the Celtics.
1. No Lakers team ever altered the temperature in the building to gain an advantage. The Celtics did.
2. No Lakers team ever screwed around with the locker room facilities to gain and advantage. The Celtics did.
3. Auerbach wouldn’t let the parquet floor be replaced with a newer one. Why? An advantage?
4. The Celtics have always played physical basketball, somewhere between hoops and rugby. The Lakers play the game the way it was intended. Put the ball in the hoop and run the floor. That was maybe until this year when they began hitting back. Live with it. From here on out if you want physical, we’ll give you physical. We have a team made for any kind of game you want, including yours.
5. No Lakers team ever had an arrogant cretin like Auerbach in charge, who would do anything to win, whether it was legit or not. Wonder if Red owned an 8 millimeter movie camera. Hmmmm, maybe he was the Belichick of his day. They sure were cut from the same cloth……where cheating is just a part of the game.
Consider…
So you have 17 titles and we have 15. We’ve been in 30 finals, you’ve been in 20. We’ve never gone 20+ years without getting to the finals. You have.
Your core is old and have one or two years left with any chance to compete for a ring. The Lakers have one guy, Derek Fisher, who is in that category. Kobe has 3-4 years of top basketball left, and the other guys are either in their prime or growing into good role players. We’re on the rise.
One day the Lakers will surpass the Celtics with the number of championships, just like Jackson passed Auerbach, and then there will be no more arguments about which franchise is superior.
You guys are likely headed for another long drought, given how young Lebron and Dwight Howard are — maybe another 20 years.
Enjoy the trip to obscurity again.
All of us in L.A. wish you “bon voyage.”

You're an idiot.
“So you have 17 titles and we have 15. We’ve been in 30 finals, you’ve been in 20. We’ve never gone 20+ years without getting to the finals. You have.”
So basically what you’re saying is…so what Celtics? You have a better and more prestigious history than us. We’re still better.
Who is on the rise on your team? Andrew Bynum? He can’t last a week. You want to center a team around Derek Fisher and Pau Gasol….that’s pathetic. Without Kobe, the Lakers are a miserable team. How on earth are you on the rise? Do you have that much faith in Trevor Ariza and Sasha Vujacic?
This isn’t a team on the rise. This is a team riding out Kobe. Then rebuilding after his prime.
And how do you know the Lakers never did anything to cheat? You’ve been to every game? Know everyone involved in the history? Everyone has done things to get advantages. It’s a part of sports. Be realistic instead of staring at all the Kobe Bryant posters on your wall.
