Should Toronto Make an offer to Lamar Odom?

If I understand what has happened in the most recent Toronto deals, they are now 12 million under the salary cap(?).  If that is the case, I am hoping they could make an offer to Lamar Odom.  Right now, I believe the Lakers are offering him 7 mill. per year which is a significant pay cut.  If Toronto could up the offer and get Odom, they would certainly have a very tough front line.  Also, it would mess up the Lakers which of course is my ulterior motive in this "what if" fantasy.  I just hope Toronto doesn't make a move for BBD.

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

No they shouldn't...

Toronto already has Hedo Turkoglu and Bosh at the 2 positions that Odom would be playing and unlike he does on the Lakers I don’t think he would take to being a backup on the Raptors even though I think they will be a good team next year…

I'm thinking Lamar at Center actually

But having two lefties in your front court could be an issue. Or, you have Turkoglu come off the bench.

Lamar is obviously gifted in so many ways…a physical freak. I played pick up with him a few times at URI (wich I imagine was hilarious to watch from the outside) how beautiful it is to see a guy 6’ 10 handle the ball in the open court with an effortless grace that you just don’t see with big guys. His mental make-up is what is so troubling. Its as if he is constantly on the cusp of “breaking out” but cannot make the mental and physical mesh. He is still a very good NBA player but needs stability around him to succeed. If they play him at power forward and use his passing ability from the inside out with that group of players it would be an interesting mix of talent. Having said that more than 7mil in this market is a bit steep but there is not much else out there. I would love to see him turn the corner.

How about Detroit

going after Lamar. Do they have cap space now?

not many teams are willing to invest money in a guy who is so inconsistent. I read an article about Lamar’s age (30) is one of the bigger deterrants to other teams. Lamar also would be seeking probably in the 12 million range to leave LA. Another team getting involved would only allow LO to leverage the Lakers.

I think it would be fair to say after the Ariza situation other teams know that Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak isnt afraid to call peoples bluffs, and teams are unwilling to be commited to a guy who, while is a great 3rd option, crumbles as the 2nd option.

also any news on BBD? I’m really suprised he hasnt gotten outside offers after last years playoffs. He pretty much could help any team.

How did Toronto get $12 million under the cap?

I don’t think they have any cap room, after signing (or signing and trading for) Hedo.

Raptors do not have the money.

The Raptors had to get Hedo with a sign and trade to make cap space. Also for the release of Shawn Marion. I think they don’t have any cap.
