Gortat Staying In Orlando
Interesting move and one that gives them great depth at the position. He will be an overpaid backup now, but at least they know what they've got with him.

I completely disagree. . .
Gortat won’t be able to play more than 10-15 minutes a game behind Howard, so retaining him does nothing to improve them.
However they did forfeit 3 starters in Alston, Hedo and Lee, in favor of one starter who only plays one end of the court. I’m pretty sure they’re a worse team now than they were before.

Twin towers
They are definitely short one guard, but they have real nice talent. I’m not too up to speed on Bass, but I’ve heard good things. Best lineup might be:
Howard, Bass, Lewis, Pietrus, Nelson with Gortat, Carter, and Johnson off the bench.

Fully Agree
Orlando are the main competition in the East and one of the three best teams in the NBA (Celtics, Lakers, Magic) now.
I think they’re going to be a very difficult team to get past in the playoffs next season.

If this guy {Gortat} is so good...
Why can`t they find more than 11-12 minutes per game for him?

Nice, but how does that explain why...
A loser like Tony Battie plays 16 mpg?
Orlando had 10 players that played more minutes last year than Gortat!
10!!!

Long-term, this is a "good player for trades" move.
Check out this line:
Gortat’s agent, Guy Zucker, said the center “was definitely very disappointed today.”
He doesn’t want to be there.

Gortat wanted to be in Dallas.
I don’t blame him for being disappointed.

Fairly paid according to the role Gortat will fill — what first backup big can impact a game as much for him for less money?
Grossly underpaid relative to his talent. It’s a pity Gortat won’t get the minutes to show his abilities.

Orlando
Orlando is definitely better now that at the end of the Finals. Yeah, they lost three starters…..but…….One of them was Alston, who will be replaced their All-star guard Nelson, who started last year until he was hurt. Courtney Lee is gone, but Pietrus will step in, and personally I think Pietrus is better anyway. VC is replacing Hedo, neither of whom play great defense, but both have good offensive skills. I say that their PG and SG positions get better, while the production of their SF spot decreases slightly. Plus, Gortat coming back cant be overlooked, its a great move, although costly. If Howard gets in foul trouble they have a very reliable backup with can come in and play D and finish at the rim. He will get his 15 min, maybe more each game. They are going to be fine.

the risk of carter
is health, his D is suprisingly under rated for his career, can he actually get to the rim anymore?

oh wow
boy i guess being an all-star just isn’t what it used to be

You realize Nelson was out for 3-4 months, right?
It may not even have been a good idea to let Nelson play in the NBA Finals after being out with injury for so long. But when healthy, Nelson’s definitely better than Alston, no contest.

Its a Sign and Trade!!!
They’re not going to keep him if he’s unhappy over there. That’s the last thing any NBA Franchise wants to to deal with. If he plays poorly all of a sudden they still owe him his money. If they Buy him out, they’re losing money, and he gains money and is able to sign anywhere freely. So unless Otis Thorpe is just dumb in the head for making this move, he must have a plan and reasoning for resigning him.

I'm starting to get nervous
Maybe if we re-sign Baby, snag a quality reserve SF, or both, I’ll feel better. Right now I feel like we’re keeping up, but just barely.

Nervous for what???
Orlando depleted their roster by letting go of “Turkolu” offensively and defensively. Courtney Lee a.k.a. The Ray Allen Stopper… lol is also gone, No Battie, and No Rafe Alson. I’ll be surprised next year if they could even beat Cleveland. They won’t be able to handle us @ all, even without K.G. or Rasheed Wallace (Unless of course we have Glen Davis Back). Nervous for what, we took this team to 7 games, with our Best Defender and player Injured, a rusty back-up pg in Marbury, a sorry back-up center in Moore, a not so healthy Scalabrine, a reluctant to shoot Rondo, a tired Pierce and we also had no good bench players because they either became starters, they were injured or had no had no clue how to play in our system because they were new… LOL!!! Don’t be nervous, be glad Orlando did us and everyone else a favor. Vince Carter will soon be renamed “Half Man Half Missing” in Disney… LMAO!!!! I’m A Hole :)

keeping gortat is a big move for them. they are now stronger at the strong position, i.e. the 5 spot. if they keep him, they are very dangerous.

we are not gonna deal with orlando
now would they deal with us
by aeternus on Jul 14, 2009 1:34 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Regardless of anyone else
I think we take home 18 next year. I dont care if the Magic kept Turk, we would still beat them. Our starting five, when healthy is hands down the best starting lineup in the league. We now have one of the most talented and versatile 6th men in the league in Sheed, and if BB comes back, forget about it. Game over. C’s win!!
by ebouton2 on Jul 13, 2009 10:44 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think if Gortat stays, it allows them to play Howard at the four. This could at least allow them to play big when need be. I think this would allow them also to have Anderson grow into his role at the four spot.
I don’t think this makes the Magic so much a better team as it simply slows the bleeding. I’m one who thinks that the trade with the Nets and the loss of Hedo have weakened the team immensely, and it will take them at least half the season to really adapt to the changes.
by amenhotep04 on Jul 13, 2009 10:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Doesn't matter
They have Carter. Guaranteed to make them a much lesser team than last season. Taking on Carter and letting Turkoglu go would be like us bringing on Ricky Davis to replace Paul Pierce.
Gortat becomes like Sven Nater. A well paid longtime backup. He’ll make great money, have little wear and tear, and have a long career.

Bad move for Gortat himself, orlando, and especially Dallas
Gortats agent was reportedly even upset they matched
Gortat was probably worth that money in dallas with the more minutes he was going to get, and probably even start….he isnt in any way shape or form worth it playing behjind dwight howard, sorry orlando

They Will Find Minutes for Gortat
I expect that Rashard Lewis will play alot more sf with Hedo gone.
