72 Wins or more

Can this well transformed team win more than 72 reg season games?

Star-divide

The celtics offseason 2008 has yet to be completed but I really like whats happened with the roster so far. Sheed is obviously a great add and just as well for M Daniels. We all know about sheed but Daniels is a balla. when the games he played in indiana mattered, he was fun to watch so I'm excited to see what he will bring to the much improved bench. even if perk ends up on the bench, along with house, the three make a pretty good looking help. hopefully BB returns and i cant stop thinking that Powe will return when he gets healthy. even with those uncertainties the team looks ready to take back their crown, hopefully against the lakers which will make it that much more satisfying. but lets not foget a possible spurs celtics match up. sorry im so excited for the new season. here is my thought.

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

The Spurs are comming out of the west The Lakers will not be back. As a matter of fact they could finish third or fourth. Ron artest is a fool. Before the year is out Artest might beat Kobe up.

1) Spurs
1)Denver
3)Portland
4) Lakers

Thats close

If Odom does not sign. The Lakers will fall to 4th. If they have him they will maybe still be 4th,but unlikely. There bench is weak.

by green20 on Jul 21, 2009 1:57 AM EDT up reply actions

I think you are underestimating the Lakers

They’re a pretty good team with or without Odom, especially with the addition of Artest. I see them as a 1st or 2nd seed team. If they do lose Odom, I’m sure they’ll add a few pieces to upgrade their bench. I think it’s too early to tell if they’ll come out of the West but I’ll have to give the edge to the Spurs as of right now.

As far as the C’s are concerned I don’t really care how many games we win, as long as we get that 18th banner.

Welcome to Boston Rasheed!

no way jose

dont get me wrong, the lakers are defending champs so no way i count them out. i really feel its a toss up between them and spurs out west…

who wins 72 games or more and lose in the finals?? lol. its a 7 game series unlike the superbowl where one game decides the better team. i never understood that. go celtics. win 8teen.

by celtsgofor8in on Jul 21, 2009 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions

at least some celtic fans don’t let their bias make idiots of them : )

Artest has been an ideal player since leaving indiana. Go ahead and try and convince urselves that Artest will make the team implode. The lakers will be just fine. Kobe and Phil can put anyone in line. They both kept rodman in line, artest will be cake. He wants a ring, and knows the lakers are his best chance at getting one. If you don’t believe me, just wait and see come next june : ) …. O yeah, Odom is gonna be back. The lakers did a great job of calling his agents bluff. Now that its obvious that LO isnt going to get more than the MLE anywhere else, he will be forced to come back on the lakers terms.

72 wins game is not happening.

2 losses vs orlando
2 losses vs cleveland
2 losses vs toronto
2 losses vs lakers
1 loss vs spurs
1 loss vs denver
1 loss vs portland

that’s 11 losses right there, and that doesnt include the losses against ATL, Indiana, Washington, etc.

by robi s on Jul 21, 2009 5:49 PM EDT up reply actions

2 Losses to the Lakeshow?

I don’t buy 2 losses there to the Lakers. Indiana are you joking man? That a lottery team again. Indiana that’s funny.

by green20 on Jul 21, 2009 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

lol they got swept last year by the lakers, and the lakers didnt have bynum for one of those game.

Indiana also beat a healthy celtics team. Trust me, every good team will lose to a bad team next year. It happens every year.

by robi s on Jul 22, 2009 1:03 AM EDT up reply actions

You don't have to remind me twice.

I know all the games the Celtics lost. They lost there third game of the year against the Pacers, and I know bad teams beat good teams. Like the Bobcats beating the Lakers last year. Whens Odom ending this contract deal? Not to much news on it the last few days. Just Kobe saying he’s staying.

by green20 on Jul 22, 2009 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions

there has been some buzz about LO signing a 4 year 40 million deal today actually. But I’m not really buying it since ESPN nor Yahoo nor ANyone has reported it. It seems like both sides pretty much know they are going to end up with eachother. It just about hammering out numbers. I’m thinking the lakers might be giving LO a bit of the cold shoulder to gain further leverage.

by robi s on Jul 22, 2009 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions

haha sorry to bring up bad memories. Just using that as an example to point out that every good team will pick some terrible losses. I dont think we’regoing to see a team pass the Jordan Bull ’s in a while. Maybe if lebron gets put on great team we could see it, but I wouldnt bank on it happening in our life time.

by robi s on Jul 22, 2009 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions

lol that was an exageration. we’ll prob end up seeing a 70 plus team, just i don’t see it for a while.

by robi s on Jul 22, 2009 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Agree

There are too many good teams right now to win 70. The Bulls had a good margin of victory. Almost 12 points for every win. If Lebron gets a good Ronin to his Batman. Like Jordan had. He will get close.

by green20 on Jul 22, 2009 5:09 PM EDT up reply actions

11 Losses

yes but not for certain. this team is not finished being assembled. i like the idea of starburry as back up to rondo. i see no problem daniels and marburys chemistry but may take time. we all know he played weil with houseboy. throw in a PP, RA, KG, Perk, Sheed and it’s lookin good. i thought marb played well defense more than anything. here’s the IF, big baby and Powe. how deep is that bench. one thing they all share is defense. they all play defense. you think the 2008 was a good defensive team? this 2009 team is better. a lot better.

by celtsgofor8in on Jul 21, 2009 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions

meh. every team upgraded. So its not like boston is the only team that got better, and most of Boston success depends on KG coming back healthy.

by robi s on Jul 22, 2009 1:05 AM EDT up reply actions

health concerns

every team in the NBA is concerned with injuries because you never know what can happen. if a major player from any team go down, it’s behind the 8 ball for most teams. celtics did fine taking 2nd round to 7 games to would be EC Champs magic.

Every team has improved and i still hope lamar will sign elsewhere. but not likely. i thought whoever landed sheed before he signed was going to improve the most. just so happen celtics wasted no time. they knew he was a big pick up.

lets hope health is on celtics side

by celtsgofor8in on Jul 22, 2009 1:20 AM EDT up reply actions

health is kinda like the anti lottery. Every year teams get big injuries to big time players. Redd, Arenas, Yao, Nelson, Bynum, KG. You always hate to see guys go down, but its part of the game unfortunately.

I think its fair to say however, the older the team you have, the more likely you are to get an injury. Being a laker fan, I also hope the Celtics stay healthy so that we can have a real series where both the Lakers and Celtics can say they lost because the other team was the better team.

So here is to good health for both the lakeshow and celts.

by robi s on Jul 22, 2009 6:57 AM EDT up reply actions

And the Truth comes out

Stay thirsty my friends.

Health is just another IF

by celtsgofor8in on Jul 22, 2009 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions

Wishful thinking I just hope Celtics can make it to the Finals so the Lakers can bury your one and done team and send your team back into obscurity for another 22 years where they belong.

oh please

stay out if your going to be a donkey. this is a basketball forum not garbage trash talk. educated people only please!

by celtsgofor8in on Jul 23, 2009 10:57 AM EDT up reply actions

don't call him a donkey

my header sounds dumb, but seriously most of the people posting on here for the celtics are just as ridiculous, saying all this crap about the lakers. I used to think boston fans were more educated and knew what was up, but now i realize 90 percent of them are homers.

by lakersnic0824 on Jul 23, 2009 3:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I want this team to be HEALTHY.

Yes, we have a stellar team. Incredible starters and a great bench. We’re probably more than capable of winning 65+ games.

But I’ll gladly take 50+ regular season wins and a championship. Championship trumps ANYTHING (yes, even 73 wins) and everything.

by greentea on Jul 21, 2009 12:48 AM EDT reply actions

72 wins against an ECF that includes Orlando and Cleveland????

That would easily dwarf the Patriots 2007 season.

Boston Celtics - 2008 World Champions

by QuinielaBox on Jul 21, 2009 10:32 AM EDT reply actions

Against who??

they are good teams but matchup looks very favorable for the celtics agains both teams. shaq is too slow to cover pick and roll and will be dragged out of the paint by big shooters. kg and sheed.

sheed is known to handle howard the best out of all bigs in the east. i think Duncan does a better job out west. besides, howard has no post moves so well see if hes improved anything this season.

easy buckets wont be easy to come by against the C’s dfense. thats what excites me most. to see these guys on the other end of the court. rondo harrassing. perk, kg and sheed clogging everything. that is why i think they can win more than 72 games….and ring18!

by celtsgofor8in on Jul 21, 2009 11:34 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm all for 70+

if we have the 2nd unit out there 30 min each for 40+ games, I don’t want big minutes from the Big 3 in the regular season.

by star18 on Jul 22, 2009 12:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Man, f the giants. I was really looking forward to history to take place that year. Hopefully Brady comes back to play, and the secondary is able to rebound.

by robi s on Jul 22, 2009 1:06 AM EDT up reply actions

As long as the Celts win the title...

I`d be fine if they finished the regular season at 42-40!

by Title 18 on Jul 22, 2009 11:42 AM EDT reply actions

it’s sad that they can still get into the eastern conference playoffs with that record….

by robi s on Jul 22, 2009 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Lol what happened to the 72 win season? freakin chumps are a one and done team.

LAKERS 2008/2009 CHAMPIONS

by Laker_Royalty on Jul 22, 2009 9:42 PM EDT reply actions

Be reasonable.

The Lakers are probably looking at one of the toughest years to repeat in a long time. The Celtics, Cavs, Magic, Spurs, and Nuggets all look like legitimate championship teams. And if the Heat land Boozer and Odom they could be great. Even the Mavs could beat LA. The Lakers will be one and done.

by kpaticus on Jul 22, 2009 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Wrong, your mistaking the Lakers with the celtics, we do not go 22 years without a title and know all about repeating and 3peating, when is the last time the celtics repeated? yeah that’s what I thought.

by Laker_Royalty on Jul 22, 2009 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions

8 peat back in the 50's and 60's

That’s the record Laker dude. 8peat will never get touched.

by green20 on Jul 22, 2009 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

welll perhaps…. kobe and shaq could have done it had they had phil jackson when shaq first got to LA and Shaq stayed healthy when he first got to LA. Not mentioning this to argue whether they could have. I’m just sayin it because all it takes is having 2 top 50 nba players of all time to play on the same team.

see Jordan-Pippen bulls.

That being said, if Lebron gets any other of the major superstars on his team, he is definately young enough to do it.

by robi s on Jul 23, 2009 4:51 AM EDT up reply actions

check your boy

whats up with your boy man. he makes laker fans look bad. real bad.

“at least some celtic fans don’t let their bias make idiots of them : )”

your cool but i dont know about your boy laker royalty.
well your boy laker royalty is doing a real great job of making an idiot out of laker fans

by celtsgofor8in on Jul 23, 2009 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

bias

its true. stop living in the past (50-60s) when there were like 10 teams in the league

by lakersnic0824 on Jul 23, 2009 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Le Bron?

yeah sure. maybe lebron can with a little better help. but I’m talkin 2009-2010. Celtics fans were talking 72 early part of last year before the KG injury. I’m sure the C’s can repeat that same start for 2010 and that’s why I feel they have a chance this coming season to get 72 or close to it.
add Sheed and Daniels and roster spots yet to be filled which will mean less minutes for the core guys, all the guys really will play less minutes. the celts play hard all the time no matter who they play. i feel they will have a shot at 72. even with better competition than last year.

im not saying it will happen but i like our chances.

by celtsgofor8in on Jul 23, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions

8 in a row

more titles than any opther franchise. best franchise ever. even if we gave everyone else 22 years to try and catch up. 8 titles in a row. I’m done with you. I have respect for the Lakers but you probably watch games only when theyre winning. you have no clue what its like to be a real fan. faker.

celtcis fans = 90 percent bandwagoners

look at all the bandwagon fans who jumped on the celtics ship…thats all i have to say…

by lakersnic0824 on Jul 23, 2009 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

bandwaggoners?

listen. celtics fans have celtics pride. everyone knows celtics fans are the best fans when it comes to basketball. all current players and ex players have been quoted saying that. i never heard of any laker or ex laker say that about laker fans. those who talk smack are not real fans. just want to start crap.

i love to talk basketball but when i get a punch thrown at me i do throw back.

celtics fans are here to talk celtics basketball. what are laker fans doing here?

no lakers blog site worth going to so the next best thing is to join celtics fans in discussion. i am all for that but dont be A DONKEY.
no one knows what will happen and thats why the game is so fun for me to watch. win or lose i am celtics franchise fan forever. 90% bandwagon?? what did you take a survey? please. real celtics fan dont make up stuff. we know the difference between facts and opinion. 8 in a row and 17 championships going on 18. and thats a fact!

by celtsgofor8in on Jul 23, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Celtics fans are the best fans.

I know there are die hard Laker fans, and that’s cool. As a whole Celtic fans are better. Watch the game on T.V the crowds are not even close. The Garden gets so loud, and pumped. The Laker crowd so low,and not into it. It’s just a hollywood event. What celebs are there, and all that crap. I’m pretty sure Odom will stay, and the Lakers will be favorites in the West. I’m sure the Celtics are the favorites in the East.I think there the best in the East. All the Celtic fans I know are not bandwagon fans.

by green20 on Jul 23, 2009 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions

um no.

like i said ticket prices keep many of the real fans out of the games, and just because you cheer loudly doesnt mean your a bigger fan does it? is that the rubric nowadays? we don’t just cheer randomly all game, we cheer when our team does something worthy of cheering for.

by lakersnic0824 on Jul 23, 2009 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions

yes bandwaggoners

try forumblueandgold.com its one of the best (AND EDUCATED) blogs you can read. also yes the games in staples are all celebs and rich quiet people because, the tickets are ridiculously expensive, so most people can’t even make it in. Also i throw punches when punches are thrown at lakers fans. We are just as true and dedicated as you guys are, we just show it in a different way. and when are you planning on getting that number 18? because if you guys dont win this year your window is essentially closed for another 22 years. Almost EVERY boston fan i’ve met is a bandwagoner as well. Look at you guys when you sucked. who went to the games? who wore celtics pierce or walker jerseys around? nobody. thanks. that is all.

by lakersnic0824 on Jul 23, 2009 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

forumblueandgold?

give me a break with the bandwagonners, please! there is no data that will prove that. none. u can say the same for all teams. no one knows who is truly a fan and who isnt. not by the mass. there are real fans. celtics and lakers alike. real fans talk basketball and i respect real fans. those who throw one and dones and bandwagonners is just trash to me.

window for the big 3 is 2 or 3 yrs that is true. rondo is emerging and perk is established big man. perk isnt great but he improves year by year. ainge isnt done with the roster and will probably get a nice young talent. all the holes were filled with sheed and daniels. big baby will probably be bait to get that young talent. hope he pulls another trade like he did to get rondo.and I’m not talking trash.

suck and basketball just doesnt go well with me. sorry. for the lakers, looks like odom will be back and they will be strong. odom vs sheed. I’ll take sheed all day. odom shines as a 3rd or 4th option. bynum was nowhere in the playoffs but he is still young. there should be more to see. maybe.

EAST celtics vs cavs
West lakers vs spurs

its gonna be fun to watch

Really?
everyone knows celtics fans are the best fans when it comes to basketball.

I think every hardcore fanbase likes to claim that they are the “best fans in basketball”. Including the Portland fans, Golden State fans, Laker fans, even Cleveland fans.

by the numbers

claiming is one thing but why are the laker fans in here? you dont have to admiit it but celtics blogs are far better than laker blogs. celtics fans follow the games. celticsblog and redsarmy are two great examples.
