Danny taking his time is in the C's best interests.
I know! We are all starving for some Celtics news. Any news. Something. Anything. Since the Rasheed Wallace unveiling at the TD Bank Garden(is that right? TD North Garden?, BankNorth Garden?...whatever.) we loyal Boston Celtics fans have had to amuse ourselves with Gary Tanguay twits(or are they tweets?), Marbury podcasts while he was stoned, Big Baby rumors of interest from just about every team in the league and maybe a few not in the league, and a Marquis Daniels signing that isn't a signing but will be a signing but could be a sign and trade.
In other words, a whole lot of smoke and no fire.
But here's the thing. This is probably a good thing and Danny is doing what is in the Celtics best interest at this stage of the off season. Most of the bigger names have signed. The market has been set and is now stabilized at a lower price. And now a team that still has holes to fill but doesn't want to pay a premium because of luxury tax concerns can wait things out and see how they play. It's going to bore Celtics fans to tears as we stay home and watch the rain and wonder where our summer went(I've saved a bundle in my electric bill because I turned on the central AC once all year), but it's the right thing to do.
Glen Davis has seemingly exhausted his chances of a big payday and the Celtics are best served waiting until some else sets the market for Big Baby and getting a bargain by matching the deal. Or if the deal is too much, matching it and trading him elsewhere for other assets. The Daniels signing/non signing is the same thing. The parties have agree Daniels will take the Bi-Annual Exemption(LLE) but, if Larry Bird wants to do a sign and trade and get something out of the deal so that the C's can sign Daniels to more years and money and keep the LLE for someone else while not adding any payroll, that's fine too. No hurry. Work things out guys.
At this point, there's no need to rush. Daniels and Baby aren't going anywhere, they will both more than likely be wearing Celtic Green come the start of the season. The Celtics will have a backup PG playing for the veteran minimum, whether that be Old Smoky, Stephon Marbury or Ty Lue or some other KG friend, it doesn't matter. Why? Because they aren't going to be playing that much anyway unless, knock on wood, Rajon Rondo gets hurt.
So patience Celticsbloggers and C's fans alike. November will come. The games will be played and Danny Ainge will give us some news that we are all dying to hear. But it probably just won't be today. Or tomorrow. Or the day after that. But it will happen and then we will all have Celtic basketball to talk about once again.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.
