Bill Walker Having Busy Summer
Nice article on the guy that I would like to see stick around.
Celtics Walker paying summertime dues - Brockton, MA - The Enterprise
It’s been a busy summer for Walker. After the Celtics were knocked from the Eastern Conference semifinals, he stuck around Boston to get an early start on next year. Earlier this month, he played in the Orlando Summer League.
Walker was back at the team’s practice facility Thursday, taking time out from his daily workout routine to talk with players at the Reebok Youth Basketball Camp about the importance of hard work, dedication and perseverance in pursuit of their goals.
Nice to hear he's once again spending a lot of offseason time in Boston working on his game.
I really like this kid. I hope we don't trade him just to dump salary (like in the rumored Daniels sign & trade). He's a fan favorite for a reason. He's got nice hops and backs down from nobody. With a little experience he might even be able to channel that energy properly.

Heh just a question...
Do people really like Walker over say Giddens? I read in that forum topic concerning a possible S&T for Daniels that supposedly Giddens is more ready to help us now, but Walker may have more upside…
I’d hate to say it, but I feel like a good trade would justify giving away both, cause a report came out saying Scal wasn’t in the trade conversations, right? Will the Pacers take TA?
I just wish it would get resolved
He agreed to sign with us what, Sunday? how long does it take to figure this out? We need something new to discuss/complain about here ha
It's probably wishful thinking...
… but it’s possible both Giddens and Walker will prove of value to the Celtics (if they’re not traded away). Supposedly, Walker is only five pounds or so heavier than Giddens. Still, Walker looks heavier than that, and appears built to carry around even more weight (effectively). Since he’s taller, maybe he can be a defensive backup against the bigger shooting forwards. Meanwhile, Giddens may be able to better handle the lighter, quicker wings. Platoon back-up wing-men. Stranger things have happened.
KSU to Boston
My Dad is from Manhattan, KS where Kansas State is. He (and subsequently I) are big fans of all things KSU. Watching his two year there were amazing. HE not Beasley was the Blue Chipper that returned the program to Tex Winter’s glory days. This is the first time he has been healthy going into a season since he came out of high school!
When he was passed over by the C’s for Giddens I had a hissy fit. When they traded for his rights in round 2 I was so excited my co-workers were yelling at me to calm down. He needs minutes, but I am 1,000% in the Walker over Giddens especially consider how he is healthy.
nice...
lets put up a poll right after a nice fluff piece about what walker is doing. shockingly enough most choose to keep him. i like the kid but he still needs a ton of work and at this point all he can do is dunk and foul pretty hard.

if walker is doing some hard training and work during the summer, than he’s gonna get noticed for it. reason you dont hear it about other players is cuz maybe they arent. walker knows what he needs to do to get better and hes dedicated to working on it and improving it. nothing wrong with that.
ainge and doc wont giv him much PT and keep throwing his name in trade rumors, whats aguy supposta do
don't have a problem
with walker being noticed for working hard but JR has been working just as hard too in practice, was the best player at summer league, worked hard during and after practices and has generally been putting forth the same effort. a recent herald article spoke about it as well. i’d like to keep both too. i’m just getting a little tired of the huge walker bias who IMO simply hasn’t earned anything yet.

Outside of their games, there's two differences between them:
1) Walker is 21, not 24,
2) Walker’s been held back by injuries, not boneheadedness.
We can wish them both the best, and Giddens might reasonably be more completely developed as a player, but Walker—and now Hudson—offer more of that eternal, prospect-in-the-rough promise that sustains fans in summer and autumn.
Keep 'em both
I like the stories about how hard Walker and Giddens have worked. Obviously both think only one is sticking. Tie goes to Walker I think because Giddens is 24, Walker 21.
Also like what quikblink has to say.
I’m sure I’m in the minority here, but I like Giddens all around game better than Walkers.
Walker is exciting because he throws down some vicious, rip the rim off the backboard dunks. He also is tough as nails and backs down from no one. Desirable traits.
Of his actual game though, he seems pretty limited. He seems like a power forward in a fire hydrant like 6’5 body. He can overpower any SF near the rim, and some SF’s too, though he’s somewhat short for an SF. Does not seem to create for himself on the perimeter, and his jumper seems fairly suspect. I like him, and if we had several developmental spots would like to keep him around to see how he develops. I’d rather keep him than Gabe.
I admit to not seeing that much of Giddens, but from what I’ve seen, he seems to rebound better, defend better, and assist better, and create his own shot better from the perimeter. He too has an unreliable jumper from what I’ve seen. All in all, I’d keep Giddens.
not a bad situation
Good points Menicus. When you’ve got two guys that are both obviously very talented to potentially choose between.

I blame beer. ;)
I like Walker
I think we should keep him, he is going to help us a lot as he progress and ages. He already did good in his rookie year.

The one man with the only vote that matters.
If Daniels comes aboard, what are the chances Doc will ever play any of these three guys?
I think it depends on what kind of PG they sign and if another wing is signed. I think we’ll see alot of 5-men bench units, especially with Sheed in here. I can see easily units like House-Daniels-Giddens-Scal-Sheed
Anyways, Giddens is the better player now… i really don’t see how there could be such a disparity in the votes.

I for one do not beleive we need Daniels:
1) Daniels is always hurt
2) It’s been said Daniels can play pg…..he was the last option and was not very good.
3) No one from the Celtics has said there has to be a choice beteen Walker and Giddens
4) Giddens is going to be very good this year, plays good D, he’s physical, decent J…game is more rounded than Walker—-but I love Walker’s up side
5) Pruitt is going to be a solid back up to Rondo
6) I remember RED saying the that jumps two inches and gives me two points is just as important as the guy that gives me twenty points because that what the team needs.
Check out how many games this guy Daniels does not play year after year after year. Larry is going to snooker Danny
why do we care is daniels can play PG. we dont need him to play PG. we didnt sign him so he could play PG for us. hes gonna come off the bench and play SG or SF and the best part is he can play both offense and defense.
I agree with you on the walker/giddens part thou. if they dont bring powe, marbury, big baby back, then there should be no why both gidd and walker cant be on the team. both are obviously fan favorites, danny would be stupid not to bring em back
His injury past is major red flag.
But I’ll trust that Danny understands this and will do his best to not give up Walker or Giddens for him.

noone knows that Giddens is better now, It’s just that more people are watching the summer league than the D-League. JR looks just as good as he did last year… you know…. when everyone wanted to trade him becuase he was a bust and he sucked.
Billy has more upside, Billy is younger, and i think that Billy is better RIGHT NOW. Thats 3/3 in my book.
I agree
I’d take walker over Giddens. Maybe Giddens game is more well rounded, but really neither of these guys are going to get into the game all that much this season, especially now that daniels in coming on board. So what we’re really looking at is who is going to develop into the better player over the next 2-3 season when they will actually get a chance to play. IMHO it’s Walker.
On the Pruitt note: He’s never going to be a “solid” backup for Rondo. We definitely need a better plan then playing Pruiit as the primary pg off the bench. He couldn’t even dominate in summer league. What’d he average 10 ppg and 4 apg? not exacty the type of performance that makes me confident in his abilities. He should’ve been going balls to the wall knowing that the backup PG spot was his to win this offseason.

Why I voted for...
because no one has seen Giddens play in the NBA!
Couldn't agree more keep Walker.
I have to believe DA sees the raw talent and I’m hoping he somehow makes it on the roster this season. I would probably say the same about Giddens although I like Walker’s size a bit more.

I think it’s really hard to compare Giddens and Walker based on summer league. It sure seems like Giddens is a superior all-around player, and he’d probably win in a game of one-on-one against Walker. However, it does seem like Giddens is pretty good at everything, but not great at any one thing. This helps him look great in college or D-league, but being pretty good at everything is not how you succeed in the NBA. To succeed as a starter, you need to be very good at everything (pierce, kobe, wade, etc) or great at a couple things (Perkins, Bowen, etc.) and to succceed as a backup, you usually have to be very good at a couple things (House, etc.) or at least good/solid across the board. But it seems that Giddens is just pretty good all-around, not quite good enough all-around to be like a marquis daniels or someone like that, and not great at one particular thing. I do feel that Walker is closer to being very good at one or two things than Giddens (and is younger, and thus more capable of developing such talent), and so though Giddens could beat him one-on-one and looks better in lower levels of competition, I would not be at all surprised if Walker ends up being more useful in the NBA.
