brilliant job danny ainge
He's done a great job of building this team. We are very versatile and will match up well in the playoffs with most other teams line-ups in the league. As i see it, only Cleveland, Orlando, LA, and San Antonio have a chance of beating Boston in the playoffs. for example:
Lets say we play Cleveland in the playoffs. Here are some line-ups they can go with:
Delonte West or Anthony Parker or Jamario Moon
Shaquille O'neal or Zydrunas Ilgauskas
We match-up pretty well with this. Rondo can contain Williams or Gibson. We will have plenty of shot-blockers to slow down lebron in the paint. Shaq simply could not guard Rasheed at the high post.
Now Orlando:
Vince Carter or Mikael Pietrus
Marcin Gortat or Dwight Howard
I believe Vince Carter and Ray Allen would even eachother out in a series. The celtics could go big with KG on Rashard, Perkins on Howard, and Rasheed on Gortat. I felt like Perkins did a damn good job against Dwight last year in the playoffs. The only match-up i'd be concerned with is Pierce/Lewis. It doesn't seem like Paul does as well against long athletic players.
LA:
Kobe
Pau Gasol or Lamar Odom?
I think Rondo could have a hayday in this series. Fisher is a pretty terrible defender, and he's only getting older. If Rondo can consistently hit his little floater that he loves, LA wouldn't have an answer for him. The Lakers have been notoriously bad against the pick-and-roll the past few years. Rasheed could bring Bynum away from the basket and creat more space. Marquis Daniels would be a pretty decent defender on Kobe, or he's better fit to guard him than anyone on our roster currently.
San Antonio:
Duncan vs. KG would be a great match-up. To be honest I think San Antonio could just as easily be in the finals as LA. The starting line-up is very close to even, but the celtics have the edge on depth. And Manu's injuries have been staggering, he may not even be healthy come playoff time.
So, like I said before, I think we match-up very well with the other contenders, and we have an answer for our opponents no matter what they come at us with. The celtics, from their demeanor to skillsets, are simply a playoff team. They're tough, gritty, good defenders, veteran experience and great basketball IQ.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Boston hasnt really done anything to match up better with the lakers.
-Nobody can guard Kobe, including Shane Battier, and Daniels is no Battier
- you left out the lakers pg Shannon brown who is there specifically for defense. He is big and fast, and a defensive highlight machine
- LO would be the one going out on rasheed, since rasheed doesnt play in the post anymore
- Pierce will have a MUCH tougher time dealing with Artest than anyone else the lakers have ever had. Two thugs going at it with eachother will be great tv, but nonetheless Artest will make pierce expend alot more energy

I understand you added Odom into the mix
Do you think the Lakers are the better team without him?

The Lakers have made themselves easier to match up with
losing Odom and adding Artest.
- Pierce will have a MUCH tougher time dealing with Artest than anyone else the lakers have ever had. Two thugs going at it with eachother will be great tv, but nonetheless Artest will make pierce expend alot more energy
Isnt this what people said about Pierce having to cover LeBron in the ECF a year ago?

The Spurs are better than us and will come out of the west. Let’s just say I’m wrong, there still going to come out of the west, and Popovich is a better coach than Doc. Last year Danny was cheap and shot sighted “Posey” and this year he’s doing the same think with Powe. If Cleveland gets Powe they will beat us.
We have a chance to win for the next two or three years in a row but Danny can’t see that doing the right thing will make us win.

paul pierce will have no problem with artest look at his numbers against artest there better than his career numbers and most of those games against him when he was in his prime and hes lost some since then paul will kill artest and people who think differently are retarted look what he did against him in indy in the playoffs hes an over rated offensive player ball hog, shoots way to many threes
by celtics94 on Jul 27, 2009 2:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
hahah look at his stats from last year. Vs artest, Pierce shot more 3’s then he usually does, and shot at a lower percentage.
The fact that Artest will be asked to concentrate on defense will make him that much tougher. There is no sense in arguing over past stats. The teams are different, the players are older (way older from what you’re talking about) we’ll just have to wait and see next year.
I’m sorry you think people that dont share your opinion are “retarted” : )

and danny ainge at first was having a manager off the year off season but since rasheed and marquis, he been awful. They could pay powe the league minimum and he would have stayed now they have teams like cleveland goin after him not so they can play him, but so we cannot have them. leon powe should be a celtic next year.

lol you dont know anything about how players think.
I really doubt 9 months from now after battling through the playoffs LO will be sulking about get paid 4 million dollars MORE than he would have gotten somewhere else, (probably a total of 40 million over 4 years) and getting to stay in his favorite city, wake up to the beach breeze, play with his childhood friend Artest, and be on a favorite for a title…..
…ya that guy will miserable….

kobe
kobe bryant will not have the same killer instinct he had against the magic this year as he would against the c’s last year. He was interview saying well see what happens in the finals im jus happy with this last one. Thats the last thing celtics playerrs were saying they were ready to win another, plus PP and RA did a good job against kobe two years ago in the finals why would that change. i worry more about lebron than kobe, shoots lots of jump shots to beat you you can defend that, but lebron taking it strong to the hoop you cannot.

…..once again… you don’t know anything about how players think.
Kobe is the hungriest player in the league. He is widely acknowledged as the player with the highest driver and killer instinct. Just because he wasn’t being an idiot guaranteeing another one, doesnt mean he is less hungry. Ray, Pierce, and Garnett were just tired of being the NBA losers for so long so they ran their mouth.
Kobe will be back, just as hungry as before.

Why all this talk about the Lakers when Orlando is the team that knocked you out of the playoffs?
Not to mention the Magic have gotten better this year while the Lakers look to have gotten worse

They barely beat us minus KG
and now we have Sheed. And they lost Turkoglu and replaced him with Vince “The Pillow” Carter. With our real defense back I really see Orlando having a very difficult time with us. Very bad matchup for them. Theyre still a very good team, but Cleveland and the new tougher Lakers scare me a lot more.
I usually think these what if argument are bad cases to make… but I really think most people would concede that if the Celtics had KG and Powe they probably beat Orlando in that series.

lol you never know with the celtics. They almost lost to the hawks in 08 completely healthy.
also carter is way better than hedo, you just forget since he’s been on bad teams for so long. His number and athleticism make hedo look terrible. Adding Bass should help them too.

haha dont worry i didnt forget. All i’m saying is you never know anything with ANY teams. There are alot of if’s going around. Orlando beat you guys last year. Deal with it, don’t waste your time with if’s.
I could whine about how the lakers didnt have ariza or bynum healthy when we played the celts in 08. but that would be pointless. theres no going back to simulate it. Just like there is no going back and saying if we only had KG.

i mentioned the atl series to just show that you guys arent invincible when kg is there. so we’d never know if kg would have cause bos to beat orl

I hate what if's but
We can lose games with Garnett, but we have not yet to lost a series with him to in the playoffs, and even if it was for one season. I’m over last season. The Carter factor is up in the air right now. We don’t know how he will replace him. I agree in he’s better as a player, but a team player in that system will have to see,and same goes for Artest in LA. The Celtics have there core starting line up. Wallace will fit in off the bench. At the end of the day I do think Ron will be fine in LA.

thats the best attitude you can have. Hope for the best, expect the worst and enjoy the pleasant suprises along the way.
by robi s on Jul 29, 2009 12:44 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
first of all..
who is whining? No one said we are invincible either. As for the ATL series, the hawks have sort of had our number the past few years for some odd reason. I’d say that one of the best PF’s of all-time would have made a game swing in the orlando series that we lost bc we had no depth in the frontcourt and were undersized against a very tall team.
Vince Carter may be more skilled than turkoglu (which can be argued, but i won’t get into that), Orlando ran their offense through Turk as sort of a point-forward. This drastically changes their offensive scheme, which could hurt or help them. But also remember that they didn’t only lose Turkoglu, they also lost valuable backcourt depth in Rafer Alston and Courtney Lee.
“Orlando beat you guys last year. Deal with it, don’t waste your time with if’s.”
Deal with it? ok.. sigh

By your standard. the Kansas city royals are one of the best baseball franchises lol
by robi s on Jul 29, 2009 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
History is history.
I don’t care I wasn’t alive to see all the titles. I can watch my video collection to see the old 80’s games,or film of the 60’s and 70’s. I know my favorite team has won the most 17,and look to keep adding to the total in my life time. The NBA calls the celtics the most storied franchise, and they have the most titles. The Celtics of the mid and late 90’s are the only blip in the Celtics history of poor losing times. The Royals have not done anthing since the 80’s. Not even in the playoffs. The Celtics are back winning in 2008,and a contender to win again. Second place does not matter to people.
by green20 on Jul 29, 2009 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
History is exactly History
There is a huge difference between watching games on ESPN classic, than physically watching every game of a season, without knowing the outcome every step of the way. Sure every sports fan is entitled to feel a sense of pride when they hear their team has won X number of titles, but the fact of the matter remains that those werent your teams.
You dont know their rosters up and down. You dont know their competitions roster up and down. You don’t know what are their strengths and their weakness are. And most importantly you dont have the emotional attachment to those teams.
When I watch West’s lakers win, I have no emotional attachment to them. Not like the pure elation I felt when I saw Magics game winning sky hook. Not like when the lakers won in 7 games vs. detroit. Not like the feeling of being screwed when we got to the finals for a 3rd straight time without Magic and Scott. Not like the suprise when I felt when the lakers came back from 15 down in the 4rth in portland. Not like the pride i felt when Kobe gave a lob to shaq over Portland Brian Grant. Not when I saw the start of Kobe bryant greatness when he carried us in OT vs millers pacers. Not like when I saw Robert Horry bury a 3 at the top of the arc off of vlades deflection. Not like when the lakers went 15-1 in 2001. Not like when I saw fisher hit a 3 with .4 seconds remaining. Not like when I saw Karl Malone struggle with a bruised knee vs detroit
Not like the happiness when Kobe and Pau got to the finals for the first time. Not like when Ariza stole the inboads pass from Billups. And certainly not like when Fisher pull up for a 3 out of nowhere in front of Jameer Nelson.
So while Boston may be the most storied franchise, its the Lakers who have all stories these days, and in the end its the stories that really matter. You guys can keep your bragging about your 17 titles, but if you werent around to watch bill russel win 11 titles, the number 17 will always be just that, just a number.

not to beat a dead horse, but Jameer nelson was also injured, so there is really no telling what 2 healthy teams would have done. we can only hope we’ll get a chance to see it next year.

if im not mistaking the lakers had quite the championship drought also, i think it was 18 years, celtic drought 22 years, plus one of the years the lakers won a championship they had a little help from a tim dounghey sighting
by celtics94 on Jul 29, 2009 10:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
All the laker fans have to say is
they always talk about the last decade and how they won 4 titles. The Celtics had to wait 22 years. The Celtics are back and face it. New ownership is all about winning. The Lakers did have a 18 year drought. The 2002 championship will always have a cloud over it to. Due to dounghey. I have mixed feelings about it. The only line of defense the Lakers fans have is the here and now. Overall it’s still the Celtics.

It's also like saying
Kobe is better then Jordan. Cause he’s great right now,and Jordan is not playing. Kind of the same thing maybe.
by green20 on Jul 29, 2009 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's not saying that at all.
History is all good. All im saying is being alive to watch your team win titles is WAY BETTER than just being able to talk about titles you won in the past
I hold the 6 laker titles i was alive to see in higher esteem than the 10 the lakers had before it. That in no way is saying I think Kboe is better than MJ. It’s more like saying i enjoyed watching kobe more than i did watching old clips of jerry west.
There’s no point in arguing about this, seeing how when the lakers tie bostons 17, you will guys will have no argument. Since the lakers would win the tie break with most final appearances, playoff series won, and trips to the playoffs : )

4 years for 33 million, team option on the 4th.
Supposedly its structured that its 8.3 for the first 3 years and 2 million for the 4th. Meaning, Odom will be prime for trading for young “prospects” when he gets to 34

The two teams could add something after the Big 3 and Kobe is gone. Who knows what player we can add if Allen takes a pay cut next season. We don’t know what players will develop. Maybe Bill Walker,or maybe Adam Morrison lol. Maybe not him. The teams will add to the team after the stars are gone.Don’t know how quick, but the teams would still have good pieces.
