Celtics Open vs. Cavs

Cleveland Cavaliers expected to open against Boston Celtics; face L.A. Lakers on Christmas

according to multiple sources the Cavs are set to be featured early and often. As of the current schedule that was obtained by The Plain Dealer, the team is set to kickoff the NBA season by hosting the Boston Celtics on Oct. 27 in a game probably set for TNT.

Then on Christmas Day, the Cavs appear to be slated to be the one of the marquee games for ABC as they will be in Los Angeles to play the Lakers.

In other Cavs news, surprise surprise the Cavs are talking to Leon Powe.

Recordpub.com - Cavs talk with Leon Powe

Reports surfaced late Monday night that the Cavs have opened talks with power forward Leon Powe, who has spent the previous three seasons with the Boston Celtics.

No contract negotiations have begun between Powe and the Cavs, but discussions could potentially pull the 6-foot-8, 240 pound forward from the Celtics.

Wasn't the report before that they offered him a contract?

Anyway, they’re going to wait until February like everyone else to see if he’s healthy before signing him.

yes, that was the report

it has since been shot down by a few outlets

however, it is possible that the original source got some facts incorrect and it is possible that this report isn’t accurate

just saying that this is no shock

The quicken loans arena

Is the most nauseating arena in the NBA…a place where ref’s “accidentally” swallow their whistles on many calls that should benefit visiting teams……

Cleveland should be opening in Orlando in my eyes…Ive been turned off by Lebron James, and couldnt care less about matching up against him or seeing him face kobe on christmas(laughable)

Im not a magic fun, but uh, they should be playing LA on christmas, and should be hosting cleveland on opening night….pathetic

Not Surprised

Leon isn’t gonna be on the market long. Just because the Celts decided to cut him loose, doesn’t mean every other team is going to pass him up and they shouldn’t. I feel bad for all the Celts fans that thought Leon would be back in green in February, but I knew it was highly unlikely.

Not too happy that he may be in Cavs uniform, but this is a business. I wish Leon the very best and other Celts “fans” should too. I gave his heart every time he stepped on the floor and I have no doubt he’ll be an asset to any team he goes too, both on the court and in the locker room.

The Christmas Day game should be...

Celtics Vs. Lakers for tradition or Magic Vs. Lakers for a rematch of the finals… The NBA is becoming to much about the individual stars than the teams.

Microfracture AND a torn ACL????

This guy may never walk again, let alone play again. His injury is literally historical from an NBA perspective, in that he tore the ACL and had microfracture surgery. Simultaneously.

I think Leon will dominate every Murderball* league in the country. But he’s more than likely not going to play in the NBA again. Not meaningfully, anyway.

And this is on top of the fact that he already tore BOTH of his ACL’s in college.

And on top of that you don't have you facts straight

Leon’s torn up his knee twice—once in high school and once in May of 2009.

Two years after his first surgery, and after getting advice from his college’s team doctor, Leon had his first surgery ‘re-done’ as the previous surgery was either botched or unsuccessful. After having the surgery redone, Leon had a bone graft too. The details are sketchy as to why the bone graft was done, but it’s been assumed that it was either related to the first procedure (the 2nd part of it), or it was because the first procedure didn’t work.

Regardless, that’s 3 major surgeries on the same knee which has been injured ONLY twice in his life.

Microfracture?

Didn’t the Celts doc say he tore his ACL and his mensicus??

A microfracture is a totally different injuries.

I want Cleveland

I wish the game was in Boston, but it’s a good first test. Win in Cleveland, and have some bragging rights to start the season.

A Win in Cleveland WOULD be something !

What is it now – 14 straight losses? And whining about officiating before the season – hilarious

Meh...

Wasn’t it obvious?

Xmas day, Lebron vs Kobe: The finals that did not happen. At the same time, Shaq vs Kobe, again for the 34536th time, though no one cares anymore.

We already played Cleveland on opening night last year, though at home. That was OK because we won it all and beat them in the process in an epic series. But this time, no real reason other than both been top teams. Cavs should play Orlando on opening night. We should be playing the Lakers (since we don’t on xmas) or say, the Bulls after the best first round series ever…. but what do I know.

Also, doesn’t it seem like the Lakers always play on xmas (and at home). no matter how good or bad they are that season?

Lakers playing on Xmas

… is like the Cowboys and Lions playing on Thanksgiving day, seems like a rule (though unwritten) in the NBA.

I'd rather play Chicago on opening night too

But it won’t even be the same facing them without Gordon. He’s not that great, but I enjoyed watching him and Ray Ray go at it in the 1st round

I don’t want the Celtics to play on Xmas day as I need to play pokers with grandpa and in-laws. As for the opening night game, I won’t put too much weigh on it. A game in October won’t make or break a season.

I’m ok with the Celtics not playing on X-Mass cuz of the luck they had on Holliday games last year.
