Seems like Doc's reputation as a good players coach helps the situation. As does Ray Allen's charity work.

Chances are Sheed is coming to Boston, but as of now, that’s only only of the pieces needed.

Sounds like Rasheed will take his sweet time before making a decision.

by Marqui on Jul 3, 2009 2:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

very tru, and in the process we’ll probably lose our Plan B option and Rasheed will go elsewhere. I’d love to have Rasheed if he accepts his role, but I have a bad feeling about this.

It would be sweet to have the Perk/Sheed technical tandem tho…

P2 is the man.

Of course the agent would say that

He wants to get a 3 or 4 year contract

Danny, say it ain't so? We love Powe!

Here's my issue . . .

Currently we have KG, Perk, and Scal that can play the four and/or five. I’m nervous about Scal because of the concussion thing. Perk has to live with the bad shoulder, so you know he will miss a few games here or there. We need to replace Leon, BBD, and Moore. Sheed takes Moore’s spot. Hopefully BBD resigns. I’d like to see another big signed in place of Leon.

So before we talk about any other positions, for me if we don’t get some players at the four and five we will be in trouble. I don’t want to go into the season with only four bigs.

I have confidence that some combination of Pruitt, Eddie, Walker, and Giddens can play the one through three positions on the second unit if Doc gives them the chance. But we absolutely have to have some bigs. I don’t want to see any more lineups with Paul playing the five.

Looking at it the wrong way

Sheed ain’t taking Moore’s spot. Moore was a non-entity. Sheed is really taking Powe’s spot. 4 quality guys for two spots is all you need, especially when you can play them in any combination. Powe’s lack of outside shooting made it hard to play him with Perk. That won’t be a problem with Sheed. With Scal playing spot duty at the 4 and KG able to do the same at the 5, Ainge doesn’t really need another big.

The Cs still need a backup point guard (hopefully Pruitt will prove ready for that job in Summer League) and they need a quality backup who can play the 2 and the 3.

Frankly, unless Ainge can get someone like Kidd or AI to come to Boston for no money, what I’d love to see happen is a trade of Scal, Pruitt, Giddens and cash for Posey, then resign Powe as the 5th big off the bench and sign Lue or somebody as backup PG.

Sheed Isn't Taking Anyone's Spot

I’m not a Sheed fan because I don’t think he gives his all. But he is a really really good player. He wouldn’t be replacing anyone as to position, just taking a roster spot. He’s unique among all the players mentioned above. He can play under the basket and spread the floor, being a pretty good three point shooter. We don’t have a player like that. I don’t see him as Perk’s backup except for minutes here and there. He’s not a full-time Center. I believe we need a true Center backup. I don’t think any of the players mentioned above can play Pierce’s position at this time (We’re talking 10 minutes a game). Ray could possibly do it. And I like Lue as a pg, anything to get House to the 2 position. Would like to see Marbury back, even if just for his passing, but I’m disappointed he won’t take the vet minimum. This could change as he sees his other options. And hopefully BBD would be great to have back because he can play the Center position against the likes of Shaq and slower power bigs.

My paranoid thought for the day

This sound a lot like an agent trying to extract a better offer – like it’s aimed at San Antonio…

by Sophomore on Jul 3, 2009 3:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Shane Battier. Would is possible to get him for Scalabrine, Giddens, and Tony Allen. Money-wise it works out I think and since Houston isn’t going to compete next season they might as well add 3 expiring contracts, right? Plus they have been shopping Battier a little so it isnt as if he is untradeable. Would be the ideal backup for Pierce imo

by TheAlbatross on Jul 3, 2009 4:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I doubt it

They just signed Ariza, so I think they are trying to do something to help themselves.

by VtCeltics on Jul 3, 2009 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Battier

Ariza and Battier play the same position though and without Yao and Artest they really don’t have much apart from T-Mac, who we all know will get hurt at some point.

I realize though that this is mostly wishful thinking on my part. Having Wallace and Battier off the bench would be incredible.

i hope sheed does not play hard to get because the fast and easy money goes first and to the best and that is now . please, someone take tony off our hands.

by nazzbo on Jul 3, 2009 5:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’d feel a whole lot better if we had Sheed’s commitment to sign by now. Not too thrilled that Artest and Ariza have already been scooped up while we haven’t officially gotten anyone to commit.

Hope this doesn’t fall through after Options B,C,D and E have already passed us by.

You guys are just paranoid dee and paranoid dumb in here. : (

Our Big 6 (Wyc, Danny, Doc + Big 3) just talked to Wallace, he’s not sure yet, we’re the only team out there that’s even given him an option, and you’re already fearing he’ll be scooped up by someone else?

Come. ON. Who else is offering him anymore than the MLE? Someone said San Antonio may want him, but wait! Chris Shefferd (sp?) from ESPN said that word’s out there that the Spurs may want Gortat. If Gortat becomes a Spur in the next few days, chances are they’re out. Either way, that’s who they’re looking at, not Wallace.

Please bash me and what not if Wallace signs with someone else other than Clover Green. Until then, chances are Wallace will swallow the possibility at a raise and take the fast money given to him by a team that, to be very honest, he’d fit well with. There aren’t many of those for Wallace, people.

by Tai on Jul 3, 2009 5:27 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I must be one of the paranoid dumb ones. I was thinking Wallace might decide to go to someone besides the Celtics because he might want a starting position, or a contract for more years. And what’s this swallowing a raise stuff? I thought the MLE would constitute a pay cut from what he made last season. Man, I’m confused.

by no kidding on Jul 3, 2009 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

MLE would definitely be a pay cut

He earned $12.5 mil. a last year.

by Sophomore on Jul 3, 2009 6:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nobody’s saying he’s looking for more than the MLE. They’re saying he might get more years from somebody else or that he might prefer to go someplace he’ll start , like San Antonio.

by Sophomore on Jul 3, 2009 6:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know Sophomore, but you might be one of the paranoid dumb ones too. You apparently don’t understand that there aren’t many teams with which Wallace would fit in well. (Sorry, it was news to me, too.)

by no kidding on Jul 3, 2009 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Spurs

I will be scared of the Spurs landing him until he signs with us.

Have you have ever been to San Antonio? Boston is a much better place to live and both are better than Detroit.

by liamail on Jul 3, 2009 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Long shot

But would anyone consider Brevin Knight as a backup point? I’m sure he’d sign for the min and is as pure a PG as they come. Yes, I know he can’t shoot, but would we need him too with guys like Eddie in the second unit? He could at least take the ball up and could be nice to pair a veteran passer with the young guys like JR and Walker. Just a thought.

San Antonio no bad!!

I have been in San Antonio and it’s not bad good family living beautiful areas and no taxes but I have been in Boston too and I like Boston more than San Antonio. I hope he feel the same.

Will sheed play hard for Cs?

I was against his coming here. But after reading about him I think he has more character than people including myself were giving him credit for. He apparently is very smart and is actually well grounded in what is important. He will add his own spice to this team. I just hope he let’s Doc and T coach him and that he plays up to his potential
I think he’s coming here and Boston fans will like him.
But it’s not just about hoops and money for him. There’s a lot more to his decision
