Odom Agrees To Deal With Lakers
"Odom will sign a four-year contract, with the fourth year at the Lakers' option. One source with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com the four-year deal is worth $33 million if the Lakers exercise the final year of the contract."

Typical Laker
Whine and create drama until you get what you want. They deserve Artest. Rasheed>Odom!
Interesting...
That someone who is a fan of the team that KG & Pierce plays on can deride another team as “overly dramatic”…
And Rasheed > Odom? Really?
by With Malice... on Jul 30, 2009 10:37 PM EDT up reply actions
Yes, Rasheed > Odom
It is absolutely true. In age.

What?
Since when did Pierce bring drama to the court? I’ve been a Celtics fan my whole life and can’t think of any real actions from Pierce (having to do with basketball) that seemed overly dramatic. The concocted a story that he wanted to be traded to a contender a few years back, he denied those reports. He has stuck with this team through thick and thin, and I think he deserves a bit more respect than what you are implying.

garnett on the other hand
i could post about 15 video clips that would make tnt dram seem like an after school sepcial

pierce no drama?
who can forget pierce being CARRIED off the court in game 1 of the 08 finals. His face looked grim as they carted him out in a WHEEL CHAIR. I was dreadfully worried for the guy, as i thought 1 or more of the following things must be true, Pierce has:
1) Broken an Ankle
2) Torn ACL
3) Broke both legs in three places
4) Ruptured spleen and failing heart.
5) Stroke and AIDS.
2 minutes later as he RAN out onto the court, i knew that i was overreacting —-i didn’t just see Pierce being carried out off the court, and using a wheelchair to roll to the lockerroom, did i?
hey, pal
look at last years stats of wallace and odom. and then their playoff stats. odom dwarfs wallace. wallace is older than moses. lebron destroys rasheed wallace. wallace has never been able to stop them. so the cavs and even the magic are ahead of the Boston Senior Citizens.

Not a huge surprise. Now let’s hope these BBD/Daniels situations wil not drag on as long as this Odom situation..
LOL
I guess those California state taxes weren’t high enough to make up the difference between 5 million a year and 8 million a year.
Not Me
He was going back to the Lakers and everyone knew it.
We knew it was a strong possibility of happening
and now that Odom has agreed to return the Lakers I put the WESTERN Conf
in this category of strength:
1. Lakers
2. Nuggets
3. Spurs
4. Trailblazers – Portland may even surprise and move up to #2 or #3 this season.
If the Spurs are healthy
Look out. They made 3 nice moves in trading for RJ, singing Mcdyss, and drafting Blair
Thanks for the dinner + drinks Dwayne Wade and Pat Riley...
we had a few laughs, talked about a BIG ‘what if I joined your team’,
and now enjoy the flight back to Miami…
Ugh...
Looks like he shot himself in the foot. $8 million per season, when he was offered $10m earlier?
All the negativity in this town sucks. It sucks, and it stinks, and it sucks. - Rick Pitino
Ummm...
Max offer he had was $9 mil per I believe…
by With Malice... on Jul 30, 2009 10:39 PM EDT up reply actions
$9 million for 3 years, with a team option for the 4th year or a $3 million buyout if option wasn’t exercised. He was offered a guaranteed $30 million for 3. He held out and got $27 million for 3. Must be nice to be able to act a fool, lose a million a year and still end up with $27 million guaranteed.

No surprise
He held out for less money. He negotiates like he plays. With no brain.

Gee what a surprise
I can not believe this amazing turn of events, who could have ever thought this would happen.

Man that stinks...
Hopefully Artest will spaz out and submarine the team… On paper they look way too good right now.
San Antonio will give them a run for their money if everybody stays healthy all season, that is about it out West….

....eh...not that worried.
It would have been nice if Odom left – LA would have been left hurting. But even now, the Lakers seem very unreliable. The only reliable guy on that team is Kobe. Maybe Gasol. Fisher too, but he’ll be playing with a cane this year. Everyone else is a question mark in crunch time or when the going gets tough. I believe the only reason they won last year was because nobody put enough pressure on them to crack them. Give LA credit. But this year, there will be several teams capable of applying enough pressure to crack the Laker egg. Odom doesn’t change that.
lol in crunch time the lakers have the best player in the game, perhaps even better than MJ in the clutch. All the lakers have been in big situations before, so I would hardly bank on them not performing in the clutch. If you watched any of the playoffs last year, you’d know the last are among the best in the crunch.
what?
sorry. but because the lakers have so many weapons, they can afford for 1 or even of their main players having a bad game.

pierce seemed gassed as a closer last year. kobe did too. questions on both of em
garnett has serious questions about his knees. might just be age and not an injury. pao is doing fine.
rhondo has the whole perosnality thing an getting bashed by gm, could turn out just fine. fisher is done.
perkins/bynum? bynum clearly has higher ceiling. but i know what im getting from perk. could go either way.
lamar odom vs rAsheed. ok. i mean i guess lamar can step out on sheed. but im not sure sheed can keep up. perhaps.
artest? he can’t guard quick wings anymore. but he sure can guard the big slow proding closers on the lakers toughest competition. given that pierce is one such closer and is celtics main source of manufacturing points down stretch. im scared. but the question here is artest might spaz out on em.
yeah, no big threat
I don’t see the Lakers as being that great. I mean, aside from having four possible all-stars in the starting 5, and the 6th man of the year. And the best coach. Aside form that, they are very average. I mean, look at the Celtics. They’ve got Scalabrine. Who needs Lamar Odom if you’ve got Brian freaking Scalabrine.

No surprise
No surprise right? Used Riley and the Heat to get a better deal. Still think he is a lazy punk.
When he wants to play he’s very good. Guess he didn’t want to play in the 2008 Finals.
I still like our chances.
Hell...
Boston have to GET to the Finals first: and this year? No easy task…
by With Malice... on Jul 30, 2009 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions
I think the west is just about a wrap unfortunately. The Spurs are the only team that can give the Lakers any trouble. If we come together as a team, we can beat this Laker team. Of course this three-way battle out East looks tough. Celtics vs. Lakers is must-see TV this year..
Eastern Conference playoffs will be must see tv. The teams that don’t get the top are gonna be worn out by the EC Finals.
by Leo's Thinwhistle on Jul 31, 2009 1:04 AM EDT up reply actions
we need the nuggets, spurs and someone else to
push the lakers
by celticinorlando on Jul 30, 2009 6:22 PM EDT reply actions
Hmm… so what? I still know we can beat them if we add the last to pieces to our bench. San Antonio and Dallas are going to give them a lot of fits, anyway. So why should we be worried? Right now, I would say the Finals 2010 wil be Lakers/Mavericks vs. C’s.
mavericks..wow
they must have really beefed up…to match gasol, bynum and Odom up front
and artest, kobe in the back…
good thing we only beat them all four times last year, and we’re better this eyar.
hmm
mavs?
by lakersbluedevil on Jul 30, 2009 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions
Insanity prevails?
Mavs? Dampier must be going to be a special player this year…
by With Malice... on Jul 30, 2009 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions
I'm sorry, did you say the Mavericks?
Wow, first you think you can beat the Lakers, if you add the last pieces to your bench (as if that will help) then you suggest that Dallas (Dallas!) might give LA a run next year? I’ll get back to finishing this post after I stop this incessant laughter.

Not Surprising
All the posturing, but inevitably it was obvious Odom would remain with the Lakers. The only thing that surprised me was how long it took. But the outcome was never in doubt.
lakers wont be 1 in the west the nuggets are better this year blazers even the spurs now they have jefferson in east boston evn if we old team cavaliers are weak against us magic are certainly not goin to win they going to have to get used to vc beacause he scores a lot superman migt not have the ball to mouch for us the starting 5 are the same we are already used to each other and all that talk about trade its not happening and for odom he just always kissing kobe s behind he thinks he is going to win another title with lakers lakers an better this year they a little suckier cause derek fisher is not going to get lucky tthis year like he did last year so bottom line they are not on top
I stopped reading after you said the nuggets are better this year

This Makes No Difference
The Lakers were going to be the best team in the league next year with or without LO, this just makes it an even less fair fight.
Look, a rested Kobe (both from having a summer off, unlike last year, and more importantly, not having to guard small forwards now that Artest is on board) meant that the Lakers would be better. Artest in place of Ariza meant that the Lakers were going to be better. A summer of rest (at least relative to last year) and burgeoning confidence from an allstar appearance and a championship for Gaslo meant the Lakers would be better next year. A healthy Andrew Bynum (a 2010 allstar) meant that the Lakers would be better. Improved play at the PG position, with the development of both Farmar and Brown meant the Lakers would be better. Sasha could not be worse than last year, which meant the Lakers would be better.
Re-signing LO is the one thing that does not actually make the Lakers better. This just makes them unbeatable.
