Warrick Deciding Between 3 Teams

I know some people were hoping that we could land Hakim Warrick, but it doesn't sound like we're one of his options.  Marc Stein reports:

Word is Hakim Warrick, transformed from a restricted free agent to an unrestricted free agent last week when the Grizzlies withdrew their qualifying offer, is deciding between Cleveland, Philadelphia and Milwaukee and could choose his new team as early as Friday.

The athletic power forward averaged 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds last season for the Grizz. If the Cavs -- who still have their $1.9 million bi-annual exception to offer, as Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reminds -- could add Warrick to Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon, that would be three interesting bargains to supplement their trade for Shaquille O'Neal and the pricey re-signing of Anderson Varejao.

Here's hoping that doesn't happen.  I don't like the idea of the Cavs loading up any more than they already have.

Cleveland Bound

Oh well…all silent on the Green front.

I don't see...

why he would rather go to Cleveland than come here to Boston…

by Mike-Dub on Jul 30, 2009 11:24 PM EDT reply actions

I was really hoping...

Hakkim would come here… I don’t see why he wouldn’t if he is willing to go to Cleveland but since we probably can’t get Hakkim I would glady like to sign Bruce Bowen…

We’re definitely the worst elite team now

by Marqui on Jul 30, 2009 11:35 PM EDT reply actions

ARE U KIDDING...

We will be the best elite team after we get the Daniels deal done… Re-sign Baby and then sign Bowen and get a PG… I still hope we get Marbury and hope he will have a bounce back year (crossing my fingers that will happen).

by Mike-Dub on Jul 30, 2009 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Marbury's career is over

He completely sabotaged any hope of coming back with his online antics. You’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

by Silhouette on Jul 30, 2009 11:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah ur probably right...

but I just really hope he still can be a productive player and back up PG for our team… Prolly just wishful thinking…

by Mike-Dub on Jul 30, 2009 11:51 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s still a lot of work for Ainge — 4 more steps before we can be the ‘elite’. The Daniels deal isn’t money in the bank yet. Hope they can work magic to complete these 4 steps in one deal.

that’s alot of stuff to get done. and none of those are more than 60% likely to happen. I would be suprised if even 2 of those things got done.

by robi s on Jul 31, 2009 4:30 AM EDT up reply actions

pray he doesnt go to clev, or cleveland just got alot more versatile

The Cavs

Cavs again? What’s going on there? It seems they are going for anyone and everyone.

by 33-32-00 on Jul 30, 2009 11:46 PM EDT reply actions

Lets Hope He Signs With The Cavs

He’ll just make them weaker. They can have Shawne Williams too.

by Brickowski on Jul 30, 2009 11:50 PM EDT reply actions

um

Does cleveland have like 35 roster spots? seems like it, but they seem to have struck out on a decent number of the fa’s

by jdpapa3 on Jul 30, 2009 11:55 PM EDT reply actions

Let them

sign Warrick, what will the Cavs excuse be after we beat them this year?

by BigDanz2000 on Jul 31, 2009 12:46 AM EDT reply actions

Call Warrick!

Tell him not to sign with Cav’s Lebron will be gone to NY next year!!!

by celt4ever on Jul 31, 2009 12:52 AM EDT reply actions

sign and trade bbd for warrick please Mr. ainge!

he could play some 3 sometimes and is more athelete!

by aeternus on Jul 31, 2009 3:04 AM EDT reply actions

I DUNNO...

Cleveland has Shaq, Moon, Parker & who knows Warrick. Magic acquired Carter, Bass & continues to add depth in their line up. Lakers is basically the same. While the Celts has its usual first five, they have only two reliable back up in the person of Wallace & House. After this it’s NOTHING! And I am really surprised why some have insisted in keeping Tony Allen, Scal, BBD. These new recruits by other teams will eat these trio alive. Get Daniels, another SF, (unless BBD can do this role or Bowen), a veteran point guard & add 2 bigs, who are cheap & can serve as back up to Garnett, Perks & Wallace. I would say get Swift & a 6’10 PF.

nothing is over

Don’t forget that we still in progress… Cleveland is finishing to trade after this move, I guess… There are 3 big teams in the east and we have the experienced of all – that should be enough if we can land some backup later…
The more bad news is that Odom stay in L.A. – no other team, perhaps the spurs, can beat them in the west… and at the other end Miami is no longer a top team in the strong east – they needed Odom to come up!

I asked god and he said: L.A. will lose again next year!! ^_°

all we have to be afraid of from the cavs is...

ANDERSON VAREJAO! the 2009 MOST IMPROVED ACTOR and by 2010 he will be crowned as the MOST VALUABLE FLOPPER… be afraid… be very afraid lol hahahaha

by jewik on Jul 31, 2009 7:10 AM EDT reply actions

Minutes could be a decider for Warwick. Playing behind bron bron, he’d be seeing a lot of pine. He could actually ball in Milwaukee. Money? Anybody’s guess.

by Tenacious D on Jul 31, 2009 7:37 AM EDT reply actions

We signed wallace

To the full MLE. That doesn’t give us many financial roads to get other players, hence why we are trying to do a sign n trade for Daniels so we can have the LLE still available. The Cavs split the MLE between Parker and moon.

by Celtic Justice on Jul 31, 2009 8:08 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

i understand that they split their MLE...but in the end boston is going

to have to use their LLE anyway on daniels. there will be no sign and trade to get him b/c nobody wants the guys danny is throwing out there. and boston still has several holes to fill. i just think danny wasted too much time with the pacers trying to pawn tony allen off on them.

so lets say they get a sign and trade with the pacers and save their LLE….who is the world would they use the LLE on now? it would have been nice to have the sign and trade done already where they could have offered warrick the LLE. but no, they still can get the deal done with the pacers…

my biggest fear is a 3 way sign and trade involving baby. if boston loses baby and only gains daniels, they that is a horrible move…but i am all for getting rid of tony allen

Why Milwaukee?

He’s not a very good player and will make Cleveland weaker, not stronger. He certainly unlikely to be a rotation player there, unless he’s LeBron’s caddy for 5-10 minutes a game.

If Warrick is such an asset, why did Memphis let him go? He didn’t have a big contract, and that franchise certainly needs all the good players it can get.

Folks here should stop and think twice before expending mental energy on players like Warrick, Shawn Williams, Marcus Williams and all those other guys you may have liked in college but who have been flops in the NBA.

by Brickowski on Jul 31, 2009 9:18 AM EDT reply actions

one guy is your list is a rotation player

however good or bad you see warrick, your arguement is typically thin.

~ if he’s their 2 best guy off the bench, than he’s proved his worth after getting out a memphis, playing better team d, scoring, whatever. he turns out to be a surprise guy and folks say, wow that was a smart singing.

~ if he turns out to be there 12th man, then he’s a helluva lot better than anyone elses, including our brave Celtics, who continue to have a very thin bench which WILL be exposed if we have injuries again this year. this is precisely the reason why you load up with guys for the end of the bench to the extent you can. you wouldn’t take warrick as your 5th wing on this team?

look, outside of malcontents and crazies, you’ll forgive me if i don’t root for one of our prime rivals to sign guys, regardless of who they are. warrick is neither, and i happen to like a few aspects game — especially when compared to the dare-i-say lackluster feel of the Cs current group on the pine. i’m sorry bud, but your constant negative extremism doesn’t mask your (to put it generously) somewhat spotty track record of talent evaluation.

by ssspence on Jul 31, 2009 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm Much More Positive About the Celtics Bench Than You Are

I’m just negative about Hakeem Warrick.. No, I wouldn’t take him as a 5th wing, and I’m delighted that the Cavs just wasted their LLE on a guy who won’t take minutes from Jemario Moon or JJ Hickson.

The Cavs are going to have 15 guys on their roaster no matter what. They had to cut Tarence Kinsey to get Warrick. If they add another player, they’ll have to cut someone else.

by Brickowski on Jul 31, 2009 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions

fair enough

but they don’t have those 15 guys yet. and as we speak, there is one PF on our team — one. and he just had knee surgury.

so when they get to the 15 and have to cut darnell jackson, maybe he can be our first 4 off the bench on a chamionship team. presumably you think he’s pretty good.

by ssspence on Jul 31, 2009 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions

So what do the Cavs have?

Thwey only have one pf too: Varejao, plus Hickson, who isn’t as good as BBD. Warrick isn’t a pf.

by Brickowski on Jul 31, 2009 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions

varajao, hickson, the aforementioned mr. jackson (who sucks), and now potentially warrick.

who plays the 4. that’s the position he’s played 90% of the time in his career. it’s one of the reasons he’s been a) a dynamic scorer and b) an inconsistant rebounder and defender in his career. he’s far too quick for PFs in the post, but has struggled under his own basket due to NO defensive scheme in Memphis.

ever seen him play?

by ssspence on Jul 31, 2009 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions

he's gone to the bucks

too bad — we’ll never know how much worse he could’ve made the cavs.

by ssspence on Jul 31, 2009 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Well hre goes another one!!!!

The New Orleans Hornets, after swapping Tyson Chandler for Emeka Okafor, added further to their frontcourt by signing free-agent forward Ike Diogu on Wednesday.

by celt4ever on Jul 31, 2009 10:40 AM EDT reply actions

Bucks a Good Choice

Warrick certainly wan’t getting many minutes with the Cavs.

by Brickowski on Jul 31, 2009 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

Oh praise Beezelbub

The 7th man on Grizzlies going to the Cavs would have been a nightmare.
