Marc Spears Leaves The Globe, Joins Yahoo!

Boston Sports Media Watch reports the following:

This was posted at about 7:00 pm tonight:

YahooSportsNBA Free agency news doesn’t get any bigger than this for Yahoo! Sports:  The Boston Globe’s Marc Spears has joined our NBA staff.

And was followed by this a little while later:

YahooSportsNBA Just to clear up any confusion: Marc Spears is leaving the Globe and will be a full-time force at Yahoo! Sports.

Spears also posted the following note on his Twitter account (@SpearsNBA):

SpearsNBA thx 4 everythin globe! yahoo thx 4 welcoming me soon

Smart Move

Smart move, Globe is a sinking ship, congrats on the new job. I am actually from boston so I know the globe is going down.

Marc seems like a smart guy and this move certainly is proof…the future is out there..on the web…radio is next,,can’t wait to read his take on Wallace..

Talk about sign of the times. Sad, sad, sad.
Though I have to say, and I know I’m in the minority on this one, Spears seemed like only a minor upgrade from Shira Springer. And I miss cranky old Peter May.

mark is ok and a sweet guy- knows his bball andi hope the globe is not a sinking ship but a wounded one. he was getting his pay docked at the globe and he’s young- good move.

I know the Globe is flailing and all, and its days may may well be numbered, but I can’t shake the feeling that a move from there to Yahoo is like a step backwards, career-wise.

Saddened, but not surprised. He is a very good journalist. The newspaper business is in great decline. The web is now.
