Frontcourt Role Upgrades (where have we gotten better?)

At first it looked like the arrival of Rasheed Wallace was an upgrade in the role of "first big off the bench". But now with the resigning of Glen Davis, and signing of Shelden Williams, i'd say that Sheeds addition has now upgraded the entire frontcourt
2008:
Kevin Garnett
Kendrick Perkins
Glen Davis
Leon Powe
Mikki Moore (POB)
Brian Scalabrine
2009:
Kevin Garnett
Kendrick Perkins
Rasheed Wallace
Glen Davis
Shelden Williams
Brian Scalabrine
You can see that some of the same faces are still there, but the difference is that we have more proven/trusted guys playing in the smaller roles instead of the question marks that killed us last year.
Last years big issue is that when KG went out everybody bumped up a role, which was fine at the starting position and even with Leon coming off the bench first.... then he got hurt. So now Mikki Moore is the first big off the bench, which as you know was a horror show.
I think the 2009 green have better quality players, and better quality insurance players. BBD can't be expecting to get the minutes he was getting last year in the playoffs, but ironically he's now a better player in a smaller role (good for Boston, probably frustrating for BBD)
There will be nights where Perk or KG can't go, and we know have the talent to make that almost unnoticeable... which is very scary for the other team.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

So..
if you consider that the changes are really losing Powe and Moore and replacing them with Sheed and Williams, and then assume that Williams should have similar numbers to Powe (maybe, just maybe)…we can say that we swapped Moore with Sheed.
I like saying that.
9 + 20 + 34 + 5 + 43 = 17

Any team that has a off shooting night, will be ground into fine powder. The longer the season goes the more severe their beating.

Frontline now is now bigger, more talented and also more versatile
Basically what the Celtics did this off season is create a deeper more versatile front court because they:
1) Replaced Mikki Moore with Rasheed…which is a massive upgrade who adds versatility since he can play power forward and center unlike Mikki.
2) Replaced Powe who was a undersized power forward who had trouble going against bigger power forwards, with Williams who is a couple inches taller, is more of a legit power forward due to that extra height and bulk and is alot more versatile than Powe was because he can also (though still undersized a bit) play the center position since he has alot of past experience playing that position.
3) Mcdaniels replaces Walker is a upgrade since he is a much more proven all around player then Walker and again is more versatile since he can play guard as well as small forward.
4)Big Baby now with Rasheed on the bench as the back up center , will not have to play back up center any more and can now concentrate on playing against power forwards which he can match up better against then centers.
Again the key here is player roles and match ups are going to be so much better this year compared to last year and even the championship year since we added such versatile players in Rasheed, Williams and Mcdaniels, whos additions also helps make the role Big Baby will play this year much easier.
I only hope we can swap Scalabrine’s spot on the roster with 7’0 Robert Swift, which I think would be a great upgrade and be icing on the cake.

SWIFT IS GARBAGE
Any one that saw Swift play in summer league will agree that Swift is on of the worst basketball players ever. What ever game he had is long gone. As a matter of fact he played better comming out of highschool than he does now.
Scal is twice the player Swift is, and we should definately get rid of Scal. I agree with the rest of your post. I would rather have Mikki Moore than Swift. And Mikki is a lost cause. Swif might be the worst basketball player ever and I’ve been looking at basketball since 1958

Both upgrade and downgrade
I’d rather have a healthy Leon Powe on this team than Sheldon Williams.
However, since Powe is not healthy, this does seem like quite the upgrade. Replacing Moore with anyone that can put up more boards than fouls is a plus, and Wallace is an upgrade over both Powe and Moore.

Swift is not garbage
Swift is not garbage for the role we would need him to play.
We need a 3rd legit center on this team which swift is in Rasheed or Perk get hurt.
I dont want to count on Sheldon Williams being our 2nd string center if any injuries happen to Perk or Rasheed.
We dont need Swift to be a allstar, just come off the bench and bang other front court players (Like Shaq, Superman, Gasol, Bynum) around and keep them at bay which he can do much better than the shorter less stronger Scalabrine.
Swift has a NBA centers body about 245 and 7 ft tall.
He can put a body on power forwards and centers better than Scal can thats all I am saying.
Plus though he is not great he does have some above average scoring, defensive and rebounding skills to make him a decent 3rd string center on this team.
God forbid if anything happens to Perk or Wallace this year, but if so believe me you are going to want his length and bulk going against the big powerfull bigs we will be facing in the playoffs rather than Scalabrine’s

fordescort...
Take a look at these 2 scenarios… If 7’1 Swift goes for a rebound against 6’9 Scal or 6’9 Williams, who do you think would most likely get the ball? If 6’11 Howard tries for a short jumper, who do you think can block him? 7’1 Swift or 6’9 Scal or 6’9 Williams? I don’t need your answer because the answer is very OBVIOUS.. Or do I have to tell you it’s SWIFT? Remember, getting Swift doesn’t mean removing Perkins, Garnett, Wallace, BBD from the regular rotation but as an insurance of a big man just in case there’s an injury to any of these bigs.. HEIGHT IS MIGHT!!!

1 more big...insurance
The thing I love about this group is that they are all grinders…hard workers who love to play physical (providing Rasheed comes back to form which I assume he will) . I absolutely love the Sheldon Williams signing. Its a piece that will provide that consistant toughness no matter what combination is on the floor…I think that signing was so valuable even though it wasn’t that sexy.
KG/Rasheed/Perk throw in any combo of Baby/williams/Scal with either 2 or 1 from each group. I would like to see one more big…a shot blocker to give a few situational minutes.
