Last Roster Spot
Now that Marquis is in the fold and it appears that there are few current options for trades, what would you do with the 15th roster spot?

PG
But IMHO there are better alternatives than Arroyo, who is not much of a defender.
HUDSON
Doc likes aggressive point guards. Pruitt was not aggressive.Hudson is aggressive., likes to rebound. He’s a rare combo of determined toughness. While I do not believe he is polished yet he plays the passing lanes and gets his share of steals. Shoots the hell out of 3’s. I think he will be a real pain in the butt against second stringers. Another of his strengths is he likes to push the ball up the court, like Rondo. And he’s got a lot of toughness about himself.
There is another guy coming to camp that broke the 3 point record. Eddie House and that $2.5 million salary just might be in danger. Summer camp does not make a player but this guy hit 3’s from every point of the court and he’s more athletic than House. Plus Danny always likes to get someone for cheap.
Leave it open...
until the trade deadline, and try to package Scal for a PG or wing who can hit the 3.
A certain impact player from a team going nowhere would also be nice (Battier)…Hey, I can dream, no?
Hudson
What’s the obsession with Hudson by some people? Did the years of obsessing about draft day really traumatize people so badly that they still need to latch on to every young player that comes the C’s way?
Hudson might some day be Eddie House. But right now we have Eddie House and three years down the road we won’t particularly need an Eddie House. So looking at things in terms of next season, a vet PG does a lot more in terms of offering insurance for the team.
Hudson Option
I guess the decision comes down to finding a backup PG or signing Lester Hudson. I have no problem with keeping the slot open for later in the season,. If someone becomes available we have a slot and wouldn’t have to hurriedly cut someone. Nor do I have a problem with signing Hudson either, except his salary will be doubled due to the tax. His limited play in summer league showed he had some talent and he’s aggressive which is a good traint. He’d be reasonably cheap and we could cut him later if he didn’t work out or we needed the roster spot.
But, Danny has done a good job finding solid contributors with 2nd rd picks (Gomes, Powe, & BBD to name a few). And with our current roster we need to start acquiring some young assets again. However, I believe to keep Hudsons’ rights we have to tender him a contract or lose him. If that is the case how does that effect our decision. Is he iintriguing enough prospect that we don’t want to lose him? Or is he just another 58 pick and not very valuable.
The other thing Danny could do is find a spot for Hudson overseas for a year or 2 where he might actually make more money, get a chance to play and improve, we keep his rights and then bring him back once we feel he can contribute. That would keep his right and leave the roster spot open.
I don’t see us trading TA and Scal until later in the year. A 2fer1 or 3fer2 deal would be ideal in that it might fill our need and open up a roster spot (presumably for Hudson). But in this economy, I don’t see that happening until later in the season.
Sign a vet PG
Arroyo or another vet PG. Also, somehow, someway, trade Tony Allen and Scals expiring contracts. I’d like to see TA traded for a late 1st round pick or high 2nd to a team looking to cut salary. We could then use that spot to bring on Hudson (because the other open spot should be used for a vet PG). That should satisfy the Hudson lovers out there and he deserves a look in the NBDL. I’d like to see Scal’s expiring deal go later in the season for some sort of talent upgrade TBD once the season starts and we can determine where the roster needs tweaking or in case of injury. Also, keep an eye on Sheldon Williams and possibly trade him (if there are any takers) like we did with Pat O’Brien if he doesn’t pan out. Giddens is also a trade option (I’d like to keep Walker though).
Sign Hudson but be realistic
He’s a longshot. A longer shot than Gil Arenas and maybe Raymon Sessions but those are fair examples.
The guys who want to sign a vet PG, overlook one small detail…the vet PG’s out there aren’t very good.
If Hudson doesn’t cut it and Daniels flops at PG there will be better bodies available in Jan.
other
I don’t think the C’s are in the position of having to do anything at this point.
The best option is to bring Hudson and maybe a vet PG or two to camp and let them show they deserve that last spot. If someone earns it, great. If not, determine if Hudson’s worth a developmental spot with an eye towards moving TA and Scal (and maybe someone else) for a better bench player midseason.
If Hudson can bring instead offense for cheaper than Eddie next year, it would be worth keeping him as the 15th player. The bigger issue for the C’s is that they have 3 of their top 12 spots tied up in players they’d rather not use and don’t figure to be improving — TA, Scal and Williams.
Lester Hudson Isn't Real
He’s the ghost of Earl Manigault.
The last spot
I am available. I will sign for minimum wage.
Seriously, I prefer leaving the spot open and not making any hasty move to fill it unless a very very good backup PG surfaces at an attractive price.
Hudson will get hurt
Sign Arroyo. He’s the best out there right now.

When you don't know what to do.....
When you don’t know what to do, the best thing to do is nothing! Leave the spot open and eventually the RIGHT thing to do will become obvious. (I think this is what Danny is doing).
Other than Rondo
The way I look at it, there is no one available that has the skills to play a style anything like Rondo. It’s not like Arroyo can come in and the C’s can continue playing the same way. When Rondo is getting a rest, all we need is someone to bring it up the floor and make the first pass into our offense. House can do that, so can Daniels and Ray.
unless we can sign arroyo
it doesn’t makes sense to waste the last roster spot on any of the “vet pg”s who are floating out there right now. Given that we know that all the available PGs are duds, and given that we know nothing about Hudson, what’s the worst that could happen if we sign him? At worst, he’ll end up being about as bad as all the vets we passed on. (Rick Brunson anyone?) At best, he’ll be Magic Johnson. Why not roll the dice and find out?
I’m not so worried about maintaining the flexibility to sign random free agents who might come along. Ainge has shown himself to be pretty creative with getting deals done, and Having Hudson, Walker, Giddens + TA and Scal means we have 5 expendable pieces to play around with if Ainge decides we need to work some kind of trade. None of these pieces are super valuable, but each one has its own value for the right team (expiring contract, upside, etc).
