KG On Track For Training Camp
Marc Spears gives us the good news update on Kevin Garnett.
Kevin Garnett continues to make progress in his recovery from knee surgery, and the Boston Celtics hope their All-Star forward will be cleared for full-court scrimmaging by the start of training camp.
Garnett began working out at the Celtics' practice facility on Monday. For now, he is limited to participating in court drills that include shooting and running. He could be cleared for contact as early as the week before camp.
I don't have to remind you how important KG is to this year's team. Glad to hear some positive news out of the Celtics camp. More quotes after the break.
Celtics general manager Danny Ainge said the team continues to be cautious with Garnett, who missed the playoffs with a right knee injury that eventually required surgery on May 26.
"We're looking for him to be there at the end of the season, not just the start of the season," Ainge said. "We're getting him ready for training camp and looking forward to him being healthy in the playoffs. He looks good. Really good."
Spears also offered this non-update on the Rondo contract situation:
Ainge said he is unsure whether the Celtics will offer point guard Rajon Rondo a contract extension before the start of the season. If Rondo does not receive an extension, he will become a restricted free agent next summer.

can I get a hip-hip-horay!!!!?
love this news – I’m cautiously optimistic, but optimistic nonetheless

I'm more worried about Rondo's contract.
Obviously KG will heal very well but Rondo’s contract still being talked about? Are you kidding me? EXTENSION HIM NOW! LOL
Someone could throw the bank at Rondo
Rondo is no big baby. I could see someone throwing $13MM per for 5 years at Rondo. They might be able to ink him now at $10MM per or something.
Optimistic? sorry but theres no hip hip hoorays from me
they originally told us to 2-3 weeks for this injury, and kept telling us he would be back in the season and for the playoffs…well he wasnt, and hes still not cleared for full court scrimmage
Im suppose to be optimistic? well im not…sorrryyy….
as for other posters being worried about rondo…..nahhh not at all, him not being signed long term is motivation to be better and get bettter, we have him this season regardless, no worries there
Patience.
Let’s trust KG to heal as fast as many of us were projecting Powe to rehab from his 3rd knee surgery.
Rondo?… I bet Ainge makes him prove what he should be worth by being hungry enough to do everything it takes every game to get us a championship. If Doc’s mentality is “prove it in practice” then Ainge’s philosophy is “prove it in the playoffs”. If Rondo is a big part in getting us #18, Ainge/Wic will be happy to pay.

you mean...
…like Posey?
Sorry, too easy. I’m not convinced either way. I love Rondo, he is amazing and be our franchise player moving forward. They just need to get it done.
Marc Spears` article...
…clearly fell short of saying, “KG is back!!”
I was hoping for more.
Me too. I know I'm supposed to feel better now...
…so why don’t I?
If you can get Rondo for around 10 mil per
you do it without hesitation. Maxwell said that he spoke to Rondo and Rondo himself said 10 million per for 5 years would get it done.
I’ll say what I have been saying since January of his rookie year… Rondo will be an MVP of this league.
A stretch? If the C’s made it to the finals and LeBron did not, Rondo would have been a top candidate for Playoffs MVP. It’s not a stretch. He is a singular talent, and he has held back and deferred to the big 3. As they age he will continue to assert himself as you saw in the Chicago series.
Put another way, I would leave my wife for Rajon Rondo.
I say let rondo work hi taai off this year to get more $$$ next year. He’ll be worth the money next year, and we’ll get crazy production from him this year. As for kg, he should be fine now that the bone spur is gone. Bring on banner 18!

Hopefully KG returns fully healthy but...
For Celtics fans post 2010 you should be worried about RONDO!
This guy almost averaged a triple double in the playoffs, if it carries over to this season, he’ll have CP3 value starting somewhere around 13-14M per, forcing BOS to either pay him max dollars or let him go somewhere that will. And the timing couldn’t be better for Rondo the summer of 2010, think of all the teams with cap space that could offer a huge contract. LAC, NYK, MIA, OKC, MEM, among others. Not likely Rondo would end up in any of these locations, but it forces BOS hand to pay another player max dollars, further limiting other roster moves with a shrinking cap. BOS may be faced with the dilemma of choosing between Rondo and Ray Ray, unless Ray would be willing to take a significant pay cut. (like AI to MEM)
If Ainge is smart he extends Rondo NOW for 10M. If Rondo really becomes as uncoachable as he’s been rumored to be, BOS simply trades him, his contract would look like a bargain given his skill set.
KG will be fine.
He will do another fantastic season: healthy, explosive, trash-talking defensive leader, dunking beast!
As for Rondo, give him a 50 million / 5 year deal and get it done now. The kid will be at the All Star game this season.
