But Weight, There's More

Adrian Wojnarowski just tweeted the following:

The Celtics continue intrigue with vet forward Mike Sweetney's comeback and will likely bring him to camp, sources tell Y! Sports.

Sweetney has fought weight issues and still needs to shed more pounds. Minny and Indiana also have interest.

I chalk this up as a no-lose "lets take a look at him" situation but the chances of him making the team are... wait for it... slim.

Who On Earth is Mike Sweetney?

I’ve never even heard of the guy.

by gpap on Sep 25, 2009 12:01 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sweetney once had a lot of potential, but he ate his was out of the league and that says a lot about his character in general. I don’t think he’s going to stick in the nba.

I’d take him in a sec if he can regain his effectiveness.

Maybe he should go on Biggest Loser. They lose a lot of weight there.

Like Simmons says, this implies some not-so-good news for KG’s knee.

Simmons is extremely paranoid and pessimistic. Every article he writes is “They are so good and have great potential, but they’re going to F it up. They’re going to lose.”

Can’t really blame him. Being a lifelong Boston sports will do that to ya. But I’d take everything Simmons says with a grain of salt.

Last year, when we signed Darius Miles in a similar situation...

… was that due to KG’s knee, too? I think there’s too much reading of the tea leaves going on. The team is looking for camp depth, case closed.

All the negativity in this town sucks. It sucks, and it stinks, and it sucks. - Rick Pitino

Simmons also wrote an article in 2008 that said the Celtics could never win a championship with Doc as coach.

About 2 months before they won a championship.

He has a chronic case of The Sky Is Fallings. For a guy who says he loves the team, he sure seems to want everything to fall apart. I think it’s because his favorite type of article is the I Told You So. He hopes his doom and gloom predictions come true so he can lord it over us Koolaid drinkers. He’s become a caricature of himself; he writes the same articles every year and just changes the names. What used to be novel is now hack.

Also, he has terrible taste in movies. Rounders? Really?

Look at Simmons new article just posted on ESPN

The Pats lose one game, and already they are doomed to mediocrity.

why not bring him in

Screw simmons and we should stop reading so much into everything said or heard. Sweetney was a top pick once and got fat. If he can play now why not look at him regardless of position. Maybe big baby leaves us when his contract expires, who knows. By all mean stake a look, it doesn’t cost a hell of a lot.

I’d rather bring Miles in again. See if he’s regained enough after a fully active year to be a long SF defender for 10-15 per game depending on matchups.

That said, Sweetney was an incredible efficient scorer once upon a time.

he was drafted in 2003 in the first round at number 8 by hte Knick’s…

Celtics camp

What happened to Robert Swift??

by RTroy on Sep 25, 2009 3:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sweetney was never an “efficient scorer,” in large measure because he makes Glenn Davis look like Audrey Hepburn by comparison.
