Antonio Daniels, Raja Bell Available

A couple of rumors that may be of interest to the Celtics.

The Star Tribune reports:

Newly acquired Antonio Daniels won't play for the Timberwolves after all.

As they also did this week with veteran center Mark Blount, the Wolves have given Daniels permission to find a trade that will allow him to play more elsewhere. If the Wolves can't trade Daniels, 34, for a contract similar to his $6.6 million deal, the two sides already have agreed to a contract buyout.

Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted:

The Bobcats Raja Bell continues to be shopped around the league, GM's say. No doubt he'd love to get back to a contender.

Heh...

I suppose Daniels could work for this year, but at 34? I would think that the Celtics are hoping to develop some young talent like Hudson.

If it means we get rid of TA and Scal though, I’m all for it I suppose. Then, Hudson could still be put on the roster, anyways.

BELL! BELL!! I WANT BELL!!! (read: I think it'd be a smart move to get Raja Bell on our squad.)

Think I said this before but it’s not like anyone would remember what I said. Mostly because I talk random bullpoo every now and then…

Anyhoo, if we could get Raja Bell to join us, I’d be thrilled. I don’t know why but I like the fella. Might have been due to that book about the Suns, 7 seconds or less…

Or maybe it’s the sound of a huge bell when he hit a 3 a while ago…

Oh well, I dig him. (Call it a man-crush, if you wish.)

SIGN RAJA!

Bell

I’d fully support a Raja Bell trade. If defense is our staple, then he’s our man.

Get them both!

Now! Daniels is already tweeting about pitbulls. Pull the trigger Danny!

I doubt

we see a trade happen any earlier than the end of training camp. When we’ll know the answer to the who’s stay giddens or walker question.

What's Charlotte's motivation?

I know Bell is past his prime, but he still seems like a pretty useful player for them. Plus his expiring deal could be useful if they want to pull the trigger on trading Gerald Wallace, something to have been rumored on more than one occasion, in a larger transaction.

I’d give them Scal and Giddens, which gives them a prospect or exprirings depending on how they feel about Giddens and (after a quick glance at Sham’s numbers) about $750,000 less than in payroll. Wyc and the boys could kick in a little extra dough.

Doesn’t really seem like enough to get it done. I wonder what Charlotte is asking for?

by Berkcelt on Sep 26, 2009 11:01 PM EDT reply actions

Not interested in this deal unless the Bobcats will take Two-Gun Tony off our hands.

by CoachBo on Sep 26, 2009 11:05 PM EDT reply actions

with Bell we would actually save money, but with Daniels we would have to spend a little more, assuming we trade Tony and Scal for them. However, with Daniels, we get a backup point guard and with Bell we have another shooting guard, which at the moment we have 5 (Ray, Tony, House, Marquis, Giddens). We have a bigger need for Daniels, but Bell is a greater offensive threat. Hmm…

Personally I see the trade working for either the Wolves or Cats, since both teams will end up in the lottery again next year, and replacing either player with Tony and Scal would only make their team worse and increase their chances of getting a higher pick. And next year’s draft is supposed to be pretty deep.

I’m torn, but that’s why I work retail for $9/hr. and DA makes millions a year.

Ha! That last line is funny.

This game took a number of days off my life, but I didn't have anything scheduled.

Retail pay?

How about Chris Wallace, what’s his excuse?

by Little D on Sep 27, 2009 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Everyone want’s them but who is going to pay there salary. There was an article saying where Antonio Daniels said he to go where he gets minutes because he wants one more contract. Daniels wont work because he want’s to play for HIS contract.GOOD FOR HIM BUT BAD FOR OUR TEAM.

Raja Bell: i was on the Bobcats site and saw something negative about him don’t remember what.

There are better deals out there for us.if we will be patient and stop jumping at anything that comes down the pike.

by tyquinton on Sep 27, 2009 12:56 AM EDT reply actions

I'd like to see what you saw in Bell...

…that you didn’t like.

Anyways, I really am willing to let Hudson fight for the right to play on the rotation. That might not happen if Daniels comes, so now that I think of it, Raja Bell should probably be acquired in a trade, at least between the two.

Somehow, I don’t think either of them are coming to Boston.

by Tai on Sep 27, 2009 1:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah,

I’m glad we didn’t jump on that deal with the Bucks. R. Jefferson for nothing, I’m sure there will be better deals down the road, The deal that you can get done that helps your team is the good one. It dosen’t matter the timing just that it’s a good deal! Bell would be a good fit here and he has played at a very high level and Kobe hates him.

Bell yes., Daniels no.

Dear Charlotte,
Make the right choice and send Raja Bell to the C’s!
I’ve hear Scal has a Jordan type brain, that must count for something.
Love,
Jackson.

I would gladly welcome either player
Especially Bell, whom i really love as a role player

As much I would want Raja to come here I cant see it happening

Oh well thats what I thought about before KG coming here before and look at what happened

by Zzbeat on Sep 27, 2009 9:59 AM EDT reply actions

Raja Bell?

A defensive/ 3 point specialist who would open up Daniels for the 3 spot? Seems custom built for this squad.

Probably not going to happen though, but it would be awesome.

by A Guy on Sep 27, 2009 10:08 AM EDT reply actions

Bell is in the last...

… year of his contract. Charlotte must be looking for young talent in return. They can’t want Scal and Tony. Maybe they’re looking for a number #1 and expiring contracts.

by Little D on Sep 27, 2009 10:25 AM EDT reply actions

Charlotte needs a reason to move Bell

He’s on an expiring contract, so the only way they take expiring deals back is if they can save some money by taking with 75% of Bell’s contract value coming back to them, along with a cash sweetener by the trading team. Or, they can take back players that can actually help them.

Scal and Giddens saves the ‘Cats $880,000. Now, is that enough of a cash savings to make up the talent disparity in this trade? Probably not, unless they believe in Giddens’ potential. If the Cs send them another $1m, hand a 2nd round pick, Charlotte might do it if they can’t scare up a better deal, or if they want to assuage Bell’s agent, Herb Rudoy, who isn’t an NBA power broker, since he focuses mostly on international players.

I’l love to see Raja Bell on the Cs this season, but it’s probably unlikely.

by TripleOT on Sep 27, 2009 10:30 AM EDT reply actions

Raja Bell would look good in green!

The Suns traded him last year mainly because he copped an attitude about the organization’s (admittedly idiotic) decision to change its style of play drastically. Maybe he’s continuing to have attitude in Charlotte because he does want to be back on a contender?

If Charlotte wants to trade him partly because of chemistry issues rather than solely over money or a desire for youth… maybe the Celtics have a decent shot at getting him.

How To Get Bell

Have Danny play golf with Jordan. Winner gets Bell. Loser gets what we want to give him.

hahah

i still remember how excited Indiana was by Scal, TA, walker etc etc. they were falling over themselves for those guys in a trade for daniels….oh wait, they took cash.

and scal’s and TA’s money is too high etc etc. it makes no sense

by lakersbluedevil on Sep 27, 2009 11:18 AM EDT reply actions

When did we give cash to the Pacers for Daniels?

Don't understand why Charlotte isn't keeping Bell

He’s perfect for them. I’d like to know the backstory on this. It’s hard to believe they’d let a valuable player go just to save a million or so.

hey guys

you might remember me for being a Suns fan as well as being a Celtics fan. So, about Bell: his defense has fallen off the cliff. Now, I’ll eb the first to admit that the Suns D was never really good to begin with, and for some time, Marion and Bell were the only competent defenders, but before the Charlotte trade last season and at the end of the season before that, his defense got considerably worse each game. Way before he threw the tantrum about the stlye of play (I don’t even want to think about Kerr ruining our beautiful SSOL team :( ). So, as of now, his 3 pt % is okay (worse than used to be) and his D has really gotten worse. He is still tough, physical and never backs down and still is an above-average defender (kinda), but nothing like he used to be. Don’t expect that.
