All Done?

Danny didn't exactly say that he wasn't going to make any more moves, but he did say he was "happy with the team as constituted."  via the Herald

Ainge said he was happy with the team as constituted. With training camp beginning Sept. 28, 14 of the 15 roster spots are solidified. The only hole is a third point guard.

The signing of Daniels takes away some of the emphasis on finding another point guard, because he is capable of handling the ball. Unsigned second-round draft pick Lester Hudson seems the most likely candidate to fill the 15th roster spot.

Is he done making moves?  Your guess is as good as mine.

I would be alot more happy with the roster if KG was around and actually up to speed

area of concern

PG is an area of concern to me. If Rondo turns an ankle we’ve got Daniels and Hudson?! Not what I’m hoping for, I think we do need to get an experienced PG. Hudson played well in summer league, but it was summer league, and he only last about 1.5 games before his injury. Too bad Tony Allen and Scals can’t be turned into a Pg of merit. At this point they might get Starbury.

Did he?

Or is just being himself…I dont agree with this “he went off the deep end” if he did – it was about 10 years ago, not this summer.
Does that mean I want him? no

sorry if confusing

I didn’t mean they’d get Starbury, just that was about all TA & Scals are worth.

Which makes them...

… more valuable to us than anyone else. Although, some GM’S do strange trades and I can see a Don Nelson type taking a shot at T. Allen.

Danny's got common sense

I’m sure Danny is honest in saying ‘we can go with what we have’, but I’m also sure if he has a chance to upgrade fairly painlessly that he will. THATS HIS JOB! He knows more about Hudson and the other potential PG’s then we ever will. Remember , he said Ray Allen could play a little point as well. And I’m sure PP could. You gonna leave PP alone for a three attempt? Gonna stop him from driving? A true PG gonna stop him from posting up?

A true PG gonna break his ankles.

Eddie House is still here

For some reason, so many people seem to forget that Eddie was the backup PG last season. I know it’s not ideal, but between House, Daniels and Hudson the team is OK. In fact, a lineup with House and Daniels in the backcourt could work well.

by Surferdad on Sep 5, 2009 9:28 AM EDT reply actions

Eddie

Eddie was also the backup pq when we won the championship and he hit some pretty big shots then. And that was before he improved his ball handling skills. I don’t think any backup pg is presently available that will make our team better at this time. I’d much rather see us go after a big-sized Center to backup Perk, but I doubt any are now available. I wouldn’t want to see KG or Sheed spend alot of time at Center. It would detract from what they could do best to help the team. In the reports of the press conference Danny said that Hudson was working at Healthpoint and he’ll probably be signed. Also mentioned was that Sheed has been at Healthpoint early in the morning.

I’m not uncomfortable with the current roster, although I am not enamored with Lester Hudson. It’s a roster spot we can maintain for some flexibility as the season progresses.

by CoachBo on Sep 5, 2009 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions

good call. overall I feel pretty good about our depth across the board right now.

between House and Daniels we’ve got the 10 backup pg minutes covered. i think we’ll see Baby playing a lot of backup 5, where he creates a nice mismatch. oh, and theres that Wallace guy now too…. and everyone else in our deep bench can play multiple positions, including Scal who was pretty solid last year.

i also think Coach Bo makes a good point about Lester and that 15th roster spot. i’d like to see him really earn that spot in training season, otherwise there is greater value in keeping that spot open. with Daniels onboard, we now have that luxery.

I still "hate" that the 15th spot is not PO(we) but......

So I will suffer no longer and release my hate.

Give the spot to Lester Hudson….and let’s get ready to go on this new journey.

Best roster in the league

We now have the best roster in the league, as it is. Four veteran All-Stars. An up-and-coming, young (possible) All-Star point guard in Rondo. A youngish, versatile back court player in Daniels who can play 3 positions. House for backup shooting and Perk destroying all who dare enter the lane. The team can deal with injuries because Rasheed and Daniels are starting caliber players.

Hold on to the Scal-Tony-Giddens expiring contracts for now and then find an insurance backup point guard at the trading deadline.

#44 is back in shape!

As the photo shows, Danny wisely took his heart attack as a serious wake-up call.
He`s clearly lost weight, and the start of what was becoming a double-chin.

Way to go, DA!

ALL DONE?? I THINK SO, FOR NOW

From what I have read recently, Tyronne Lue is going overseas, the Celtics can’t afford Arroyo, and God forbid, Marbury has talked himself out of a job. So it would seem that the Celtics are done signing for now. I thought they would have come up with someone else, but that 15th spot is going to be used for someone we are not expecting, Swift. What do you all think? (Or maybe he is just keeping this spot opened for now.)

All Done?

Danny’s always looking to make the team better and, in my opinion, we have TA, Giddens and Walker and the 15th spot to work with. None of these players would even get us a 1st round pick. I’m excluding Scals for his defense. With that said we are real good at 1-10 (about) and there’s such a thing as having too much. My guess is we sign Hudson and stay put. I don’t see us making any trade deadline moves that would help us in the playoffs. With the exception of PJ Brown those haven’t worked well, but I would still like to see us get a PJ-type to back up Perk if need be.

Anyone signed now would count for 2x due to lux tax

I was in favor of signing a vet backup PG earlier in the off-season, but the way things are shaping up, I don’t see any PG out there who gives us more for those 10 backup minutes than the combo of House/Daniels/Hudson. Anyway, there’s still the pocketbook to mind, so the value is not there.

Sign Lester Husdon. What exactly is the advantage of leaving the 15th spot open? If you want to sign someone later, then cut Hudson (or Giddens) to make room. But again, that’s costly because you still have to pay Hudson plus the double salary for the FA.

by Surferdad on Sep 5, 2009 7:23 PM EDT reply actions

Scal/$3plus million---TA /$2.5 Million

By the trading deadline we dump TA and Scal. for either one good player or two decent players. What’s all this shaking about. Giddens and Walker is our youth and future. We cant trade our youth for a temporary fix how dumb would that be. Both of those guys originally were slated to be mid level first round draft choices before they suffered untimely knee problems. The reason people keep saying trade them is because Doc would not play them last year. This year you will see them play because of the blow outs.

by tyquinton on Sep 5, 2009 7:23 PM EDT reply actions

Scal is a good player, Tony maybe

What’s “all this shaking” about getting rid of those two guys. Scal was a player at the end and if “good Tony” emerges why go on the Tyron Lue/Stromile Swift etc treasure hunt.

by Wildblu1 on Sep 5, 2009 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed, Scal and Tony are good players for #11 and #12 on the bench

Yes, they may be good trade bait with their expiring contracts, but in the meantime these guys are good insurance and good practice players.

by Surferdad on Sep 5, 2009 8:45 PM EDT reply actions

And if we are gonna have three young uns with the team this year...

…we need Mother Scal around to keep them on the right path.

by clover on Sep 6, 2009 9:52 AM EDT up reply actions

Happy with who we have as is.

I like the idea of signing Lester Hudson to get him into the fold young and learn the offense in practices and the vibe of a championship team. My only worry is Pierce getting too many minutes if Doc is not happy with something about Walker/Daniels/Tony but hopefully they can switch Pierce out when the matchup is good.

by SotaPop on Sep 5, 2009 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

if we do sign lester hudson as our back up point, it seems pointless the celtics can only dress 12 players at a time and he wuldnt be one of them, wuts the point of signing a player for a backup role if he wont be available for everyday games

by celtics94 on Sep 5, 2009 10:07 PM EDT reply actions

Right. C'mon C84 use your noodle.

Hudson, Walker and Giddens could all see D-league time this season.

by Surferdad on Sep 6, 2009 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions

my point is would you rather have scal or hudson on the bench able to play. becasue i think scal can help us more right away. but we need a backup point to play consistent minutes every game, so are you willing to bench a better player for sum1 that were forced into playing

by celtics94 on Sep 6, 2009 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions

because there is no other option

by celtics94 on Sep 6, 2009 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions

but my point is you can have both. The roster spots are there and

it’s short money. So sign Hudson but maybe Scal gets more minutes. So what. Lester is a rookie. He’ll get his chance.

by Surferdad on Sep 7, 2009 5:42 AM EDT up reply actions

either scal or hudson will not be suiting up for games

by celtics94 on Sep 5, 2009 10:14 PM EDT reply actions

I heard Lester has been working hard in Boston, so I guess he gets the last spot.

by CelticPride18 on Sep 6, 2009 10:06 AM EDT reply actions

I think we should sign Lester for the minimum...

and if he doesn’t pan out we should just release him and pick up a veteran pg or try to acquire one through a trade of our expirings.

by Mike-Dub on Sep 6, 2009 1:36 PM EDT reply actions

Danny will try for another move..

Most likely a last swing man to back-up Paul. It didn’t seem that Danny was thinking of Daniels as the primary back-up for Paul, and would like another vet for that spot. My guess is we’ll be looking there for one last spot using Scal, TA, and Giddens as bait. Just a hunch..
