All-Star Silliness
According to the most recent All-Star voting tally (http://www.nba.com/2009/news/12/31/allstar.ballot.3/index.html), Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson are set to be among this year's starters. Anyone who's been paying attention this year knows what waste of an All-Star spot this would be. As a Celtics fan, I don't really care who makes the All-Star teams. But as a fan of the game, I get a little irked by these things. So here's what I propose: Let's get a Hoops Justice movement going. Head over to NBA.com, vote for All-Star starters, and vote for the 2 players behind McGrady and Iverson, respectively, along with whoever else you want. So in McGrady's case, that would mean voting for Steve Nash and Chris Paul as your Western Conf. guards. Totally legitimate picks, by the way. For Iverson, that means voting for Vince Carter and Ray Allen as your Eastern Conf. guards. For the record, as much as I love Ray, I don't think either he or Vince really deserves a spot ahead of guys like Rajon Rondo or Joe Johnson, but neither of them have a realistic shot of unseating Iverson. So if you wanna get some Hoops Justice done, go vote as many times as you can in the next 16 days (limit of one vote per day, and you have to create or log into your NBA.com account). All of this is obviously very subjective, and if you're a T-Mac or Iverson fan, hey, congrats. Go ahead and vote for your boys. But in case you agree with me and wanna do something about it, go vote for Nash, Paul, Vince, and Ray, and pass the word along.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure...
… that with the exception of injury, there’s a fine or suspension for not suiting up for an All-Star game if you’re voted in. I know it’s widely believed that David Stern messed with the numbers last year to get CP3 in over T-Mac, so do you mean that’s what he’ll do again? Iverson has a huge lead over the his closest competition, so it’d be hard to pull that one off without questions, no?
no way
someone will overtake them in the last or second to last ballot release… happens every year
Is this sudden urge to bash the NBA All star game due to the facts that fans are not voting to include Celtic players? If there were 3 or more Celtic players voted in as starters, would we be having this post? Isnt it up to fans to vote for the players they want to see playing? Fans are free to vote for whom they please as long as they vote for Celtic Players? If they dont, they are not knowledgeable? Now the All star game is a silly game? Was it when Lary and Cousy and Bill and PP were playing? Gimme a break!
How many games has Allen played this season? Or Tmac?
I think it would be atrocious for Tmac to get voted in over Nash who’s having an incredible season. Or even Monta Ellis and Deron Williams who aren’t getting any votes, but are playing unbelievably well for their respective teams. Same with AI, he shouldn’t take an all-star spot away from Nelson or Mo Williams.
This has nothing to do with Celtics players, but more about guys who FAR more deserving than these guys. All Tmac and AI have done this season is quit on their teams. Ashame that’s what the fans are rewarding.
Don't Trade Rondo or Perk!
Well it looks like enough people have already come to my defense
but read the last few sentences of the post again. And for the record, I do not think that Ray Allen deserves an All-Star spot this year. I don’t really think Vince does, either. The point is that, according to actual performance on the court this year, they both deserve to be there far more than either Iverson and T-Mac. As I said, if you just really like those guys, fine, go ahead and vote for them. This has nothing to do with getting Celtics on the All-Star team. It has to do with getting good, deserving players on the team. It just so happens that Ray is one of the 2 guys trailing Iverson. KG isn’t really an All-Star over Bosh or Gerald Wallace, either, for the record. My plea comes purely as a fan of the game. Not a Celtics fan. Which I wrote. In the first post. Which I guess not everyone read fully.
way to miss the point
It has nothing to do with voting on Celtics players. Rondo is by FAR the best PG in the East. I mean it’s not even close, anyone who votes for Iverson over Rondo is clearly ignorant to the game of basketball. It’s not a Celtic thing, it’s a give a player his due thing.
and when players who earned the distinction don’t get in because morons have the reigns in voting. . . it’s just a joke.
People from foreign countries vote
And they pick names they are familiar with. I’m from Australia and I have friends that voted for Kobe, James, Garnett, Iverson, Knee-Mac, Shaq and Andrew Fu**ing Bogut because these are the only names they know. But don’t blame it on Australia because hardly anyone here actually votes, blame it on China, their Olympic games which made Yuo Ming look like the NBA’s premier superstar to the Chinese people. They know nothing about basketball either so they will vote for Ming’s team mate and other names that are big. This is why you are getting so many votes for has beens.

China is definitely influencing the T-Mac vote
but I’m not sure it’s because they don’t know anything about the game. China has a lot of young NBA fans. I think they’re probably as knowledgeable about the game as the average American fan, but national pride wins out when it comes to voting for stuff like this. Now voting for a once-great Houston Rocket purely because Yao Ming also plays for the same team seems like a weird way of expressing national pride to me, but I’m pretty sure that’s what’s going on. Nothing wrong with that, per se. The system allows it. I’m just trying to make sure voters are as informed as possible. In the future, it seems to me that the NBA could improve things a lot by delaying the date they release the All-Star ballots by a few weeks. There are a lot of guys on the ballot who shouldn’t be there.
In Australia
Whenever theres gonna be an interview on a sport show with Bogut they always say something in the ads like “After the break we be talking to NBA Superstar Andrew Bogut!” Supterstar, WTF!?
