Rumor: Celtics Have Made Offer For Nate
C’s Have Made Offer for Nate Robinson – CelticsHub.com
The trade rumors swirling around Nate Robinson had appeared to calm down in recent weeks, but Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports has reported today during an interview with Tanguay and Zolak on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, that he has knowledge that the C’s have made an offer to the Knicks for the ever controversial guard Nate Robinson.

He would be perfect for the Celtics
A real sixth-man.
Screw it, we need something.
May as well throw stuff at the wall till something sticks right now.
USG
Lol
Well so much for my theory that the Celtics would deny their interest in Nate. Marc Spears said a week ago that the C’s had interest, now this?
Thing is…do the Knicks do this?
Nate would be great
I think Nate would fit in well here. We need someone who can score, which he can.
Playing with the trade machine...
I just don’t see how we do anything with NY that makes sense for us without adding a third team. Seeing as Nate is BYC, and I suspect Jeffries would come attached to Nate, we can make it work, but it’d get pretty convoluted to make it happen. Here’s one that works:
Scal, TA, Baby, House -for- Nate, Chandler and Jeffries. Leaves us woefully thin at backup 2. Much as Eddie is limited, he can shoot the eyes out of it when he’s on. Plus, getting rid of both Scal and Baby leaves us a little thin for bigs too, although Jeffries is sort of similar to Scal. As I see it, a deal bringing Nate in has to involve a third team to make sense for all concerned.
That is a horrible deal
One I don’t think the c’s would fathom never mind offer

is nate robinson that good?
i mean, if it costs us little, why not, but i don’t think nate robinson is really worth trading much.
I’m having trouble convincing myself Nate is worth more than both Scal and Tony. It would be a nice shot in the arm offensively, but taking defense into consideration, I’d almost rather just keep Scal and TA.
Can we even play Nate and Rondo together? House is an all-world defensive 2-guard compared to Nate….
exactly
nate might be better offensively than tony, for instance (if he gets minutes – but tony played pretty good offensively when paul was out and he got to play more), but he’s not nearly as good defensively. quite honestly, i don’t think i’d trade tony for nate, straight-up, for that very reason. tony’s much maligned on this board, but he has played well this year, and is a good defensive player at worst.

There is No Realistic Two Team trade That Works
He’s a BYC player and a one year rental (no Bird rights).
Very good point
A third team has to be involved with this trade. But who would be willing?
by KY Celts fan on Jan 19, 2010 7:37 PM EST up reply actions
Can he waive the NYC trade clauses?
He did say the c’s specifically
though I don’t think we want xtra junk to get him nor would we be willing to trade necessary pieces to our machine
by Warrior Spirit on Jan 19, 2010 8:25 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Why would the Knicks give him up?
This is tempting, especially given the lack of energy off the bench last night. Still think we miss Leon’s heart and toughness on those nights. Love Krytonate’s scoring and energy but this makes our backcourt alot smaller. Daniels would need to come back and contribute the way he was before the injury for this to work.
Not sure why the Knicks would give him up either. He’s a key contributor in their rotation, the Knicks are real close to a playoff spot and he’s an expiring contract anyway.
They've got their eye on the prize: Lebron
This year means nothing to them, which is why they are willing to give up their two best players in Lee and Robinson.
by KY Celts fan on Jan 19, 2010 7:39 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah but Nate is already expiring
by Warrior Spirit on Jan 19, 2010 8:26 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I think the knicks are getting tired of him.. overal attitude, etc.. i dont think the knicks will move him with out including jeffries or curry or hughes. so a jeffries and nate for TA, sca, house may work.. only if they are willing to get nothing in return.
I agree...
The trade is:
Scal, Tony, House, Giddens and Walker for Nate, Jeffries, and WILSON CHANDLER…
Ok, Jeffries is awful.. But Chandler??? Is a future all star!!
I hope thats not the trade…
I’m pretty sure we could just give them House and a pick for Nate straight up.
And what makes Wilson Chandler a future all-star?
by jesse_stoneham on Jan 19, 2010 8:07 PM EST up reply actions
no, we can't
because of Nate’s BYC, and we’re both over the cap, a trade of House and Nate doesn’t work. we have to have a third team involved.
As for Chandler, he has potential. Good player to backup Pierce. I don’t know about all-star, but still serviceable.
by KY Celts fan on Jan 19, 2010 8:52 PM EST up reply actions
not sold on him
but becoming concerned with the overall lack of passion on the team as a whole and with backcourt scoring off the bench.
from a talent perspective, I’d be tempted to swap him for House straight up. I know that won’t work money-wise but House’s spot is where Nate would be slotted to play.
PINCH ME!!!!
First I’m alive to see MASSACHUSETTS elect a R Senator for the soul purpose of undoing what Ted Kennedy worked half a century to create…
and now NATE may be a Celtic? The perfect 6th man, a guy who shoots damn near as good as E House but can actually create and handle the ball??
To quote the late great Dr. MLK:
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord!!!
boo hoo
i welcome nate for his energy and the simple fact that he could be the minute horse we need.

yeah
isn’t it great that we don’t have universal healthcare like Japan, Canada, England, France and every other country with an understanding of how the wheel works….
When you travel the world you learn two things, Asia is down with the Celtics and the Truth and KG and think the American Republican Party are a bunch of fools.
Your not alone in your worldy travels my friend...
The difference between my experience and your own is that you slept in a nice hotel, while I was in a fighting hole
you carried a brief case while I carried an M16
while you were hiding your wedding ring from your collegues over cocktails i was hiding the fear in my eyes from my men.
and while you handed over your passport to some guy at customs, i handed my Country a blank check that read “Up to and including my life”
THAT my dear “agh” is called per-spec-tive.
Oh, and you could pay me no greater compliment than to tell me the French completely disagree with my values! hahahahaha.
MODS - can we get a curb on the politics?
This is a Celtics discussion board.
you cry
out for Mods on THAT.?
It must be so tough to be so uptight. petty petty. Some how I think you’ll live.

'Just know how these things spiral. 'Better to curb it early.
But thanks for the insults anyway.
Oh and....
Bring on J Jeffries. Seriously. I’ve owned him on my CSL fantasy team for about 2 weeks, only 2% owned at the time… yes i’m ahead of my time. Nut from NH walks to the beat of his own drum.
Jefferies is a better version of Quisi, albiet over paid.
1.5 steals per, 1.5 blocks per, very good rebounder, true energizer type player… not the bs “energy” crap people have been trying to say about Scal for the last half decade… Jefferies actually makes a DIFFERENCE with his energy.
Like others have mentioned
This is near-impossible without a third team due to the BYC constraints. With higher salaries (i.e. a player that goes from a rookie scale contract to a max contract), it’s manageable with a little work, but at the contract Robinson has, it’s very hard to do a two-team deal. That said, I can’t imagine that Walsh is giving up on an asset like Robinson so soon without putting Jeffries into the deal as well. You might as well keep him as a possible asset in a sign-and-trade if you can’t deal him with Jeffries to clear cap space.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
because ... lemme guess ... it doesn't make us significantly better?
Nate can shoot and run an offense. Great. But he is a lousy defensive player.
How much do you give up to get him? We are talking about adding a BENCH player. A PG to backup Rondo. That means you are not going to play Nate more than 12-18 minutes AT MOST per game.
Just how much better in 15 minutes of play do you think he’ll be than our current backup PG options?
With the Knicks, he is currently a DETRIMENT – the team LOSES net points when he is on the floor!!!!!!
For comparision, when Eddie is on the floor, on this team, he’s currently worth about +1 pt in 12 minutes of play.
Ugh. Do not make this trade, plz.
My first concern is
Will he be an even bigger liability in D than House?
House for Nate straight up?
I think his defense would be no worse then House
since his offense would be better the House, since he is struggling so much this year I would trade House for Nate straight up if a one for one deal was possible.
Thing is though I think since Nate makes 4+ million and House makes 2+ million, if we wanted to obtain Nate we would have to trade more then House to obtain him.
We would have to throw in someone like TA and his 2+ million contract to make the deal, but then if we did that I think we would maybe be be giving up too much to get Nate.
It will be interesting if a deal is made for Nate how the C’s plan on acquiring him and who will be traded.
Apart from the salary match...
Apart from the problem matching salaries, there is the bigger problem of the Knicks getting something out of the deal. They want salary relief for next year. How can we give them that?
by guava_wrench on Jan 19, 2010 11:24 PM EST up reply actions
The biggest cap relief we can offer is Ray. Ray for David Lee + Nate?
by getthat18now on Jan 19, 2010 11:27 PM EST up reply actions
Ray for lee and Robinson doesn't work financially
Plus nate and David are already exiting contracts so throwing in ray only makes things worse for them.
Plus why would we want to get rod of Ray?
by KY Celts fan on Jan 19, 2010 11:35 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Voted yes
I’ll take him. Just don’t play him with House unless we are playing a really Golden State.
The guy can score. I think he has a great bench scorer game. If he is playing with TA and Daniels, he doesn’t need to be a defensive stopper. Just quick enough feet to stay in front of guys and to rotate.
I called this last night ! So psyched !!!
Last night i posted Nate would be the perfect trade.
This is awsome ! Nate can wear green every night not only when he dons his kryptonite costume in the slam dunk contest !!
I love it !! GO C’s !!!!
fingers crossed
I will be sad to see Eddie go, but it's ok..
We can still watch him play for the Knicks and wish him the best.
The Celtics have made an offer for Knicks guard Nate Robinson, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, though it’s not clear what they are willing to give up.
Tony Allen, J.R. Giddens, Bill Walker and Brian Scalabrine all have expiring contracts, and Knicks beat writer Alan Hahn points out that Mike D’Antoni has always loved Eddie House. The Celtics can sweeten the deal with draft picks, and Nate (who has a veto) already said he would play for the Cs. Jan. 19 – 8:44 pm
Give me a break
The Cavs talk about getting Jamison, Murphy, Randolph, etc. Wizards may move Caron Butler. The Lakers and Mavericks are on the trail of Chis Bosh. The Celtics are looking at an undersized, defensive liability, not to mention punk like Nate Robinson/ Seems like we’re aiming a little low.
Who Cares?
The Celtics aren’t winning anything this year anyway
Wait until Ray Allen is traded, gets bought out and returns. Then we will look much better and deeper…
Only approved Ray trade scenario
But he has to be bought out, and those 30 days minus Ray will be a) quite restful for Ray and b) great opportunity for the new pieces to be integrated to the team.
I don’t think they do it without a quite illegal prior arrangement that he gets bought out tho
by Warrior Spirit on Jan 20, 2010 11:23 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
Again if and only if Ray gets bought out
Something like Ray for Caron and rested Ray comes back
or Ray and jr for Nate, lee and jefferies and webuy out jeffries then rested Ray comes back effectively swapping jr and Hudson for Nate and lee, ny does it because they lose jefferies contract
keep in mind I do not think a trade is necessary but am going with the thread. No deal gets done without Ray coming back IMO
by Warrior Spirit on Jan 20, 2010 12:19 PM EST up reply actions
All that being said I am still not sure I do the deal
It is afterall for Nate Robinson!
I stand by my team and it’s parts and think that the season record does not matter and have been saying that since the 72 wins bullshit, we need healthy parts and a motivated sheed come playoff time. If there is to be a deal in the works it has to be REAL good Ray, Eddie, ta and scal all have too much value to the team. They won’t do anything unles it is big, anddont need too.
If Ray or scal go and get bought out they r coming back here
by Warrior Spirit on Jan 20, 2010 12:42 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Left my last blog due to this negative energy
Bullshit.
This isn’t the playoffs bra, watch the team pick it up several notches when all the pieces r in place. 2 be honest this team if motivated properly (healthy playoff run) doesn’t need home court advantage, not even against the lakers
don’t bring that negative shit here
by Warrior Spirit on Jan 20, 2010 11:28 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
trades
It would be lovely to fantasize about Jamison, Butler, Bosh, etc., but the reality is those scenarios ain’t happening. We don’t have the serious young talent it would take to get one of those deals to work for the other team. The only major trade possible would be moving Ray Allen’s contract and even then we may end up being disappointed in what would be offered back. Like it or not, we have to live with the reality of Robinson, Chandler, Jeffries, etc., being the trade world we live in.
D&D Like Scorers
Seems Danny and Doc have a penchant for points who like to put up points (not distribute). Hence Sam-I-Am, Star, Lester, Pru, So Nate fits the package. What the heck. The bench clearly needs a kick in the pants. With Rondo and Nate, the C’s can keep coming at ’em with quick.
not liking this
C’s should be more patient and try to get something better… Having said that, if it could be done in a way that didn’t handcuff us, I’d be more OK with it.
by Hal Jordan on Jan 20, 2010 8:16 AM EST via mobile reply actions
agree that eddie would have to be in this deal
you can’t play 2 undersized shooting guards so eddie would have to go. I gotta believe that tony allen is also in this deal if it happens. no way the knicks trade chandler. maybe giddens or walker go as well but I think danny hangs onto scal to use in possibly another deal or keep as insurance. Honestly is there much difference between Shelden and Baby at this stage? You could make the argument that shelden is actually more valuable to us right now. as for giddens and walker we’ll never know if they can play since doc won’t play them
Please no.
Adding Nate Robinson does not make sense from a basketball sense in any way. Especially considering we have to give something up to get him.
Robinson simply is NOT going to provide significantly more value (if any) in 12 minutes of play off the bench than our current PG backup options (Eddie, TA & Daniels when he gets back). Arguably he is worse overall than any of those guys because he is so bad on defense.
There is no way this would make any sense.
No. Freakin’. Way.
