KG trade (this offseason)
OK hear me out. Next off season the Celtics will have Ray Allen coming the books. Thats 18 million gone and with him declining in skill this is perfect time to cut ties. Who is there to replace such a player, Joe Johnson. Johnson is getting payed a cool 14 mill this season, a raise to 19-20 mill would fit him just fine. This is where the KG trade comes in. Chris Bosh is another player becoming a free agent this summer who will also be looking to cash in. The Celtics must take advantage off these players being on the open market in there prime, especially when there talent is getting up there in age, the time is now they must not stay status quo with KG and his knee.
So it looks like this. KG and his 3 years and about 60 million left on his deal go to any team willing to take him (for the example i choose Chicago.) The Celtics can even pay some of KG's contract and still use expiring contracts like Tony Allen and Brian Scalabrine plus the MLE to make up the difference to sign Bosh. They could ask for a player like James Johnson in return and a first round pick in 2010 and 2011. And the Celtics could add more young/athletic people with that pick ie: Xavier Henry.
If the Celtics want to continue this rain of power in the NBA they must take action. This prolongs winning as well as makes them better. And best of all this year of 2009-2010 seems to be the last shoot the Celtics have of being healthy and winning a championship, win the championship and reload with younger equal or better talent.
2010-2011 Starting Five
PG Rajon Rondo 24
SG Joe Johnson 29
SF Paul Pierce 33
PF Chris Bosh 26
C Kendrick Perkins 26
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Yeah, but why would CHI and TOR want to do that?
Plus Xavier Henry is going to be a Top 5 draft pick, possibly #2 behind Wall. Not possible to get him.

well TOR wouldn’t have to do any thing, Bosh is a free agent. What do u mean why would Chiago do that, they have no Pf. Anyways i think a team out there is willing to take KG i don’t care who it is CHI was just an example. Also Henry is currently the 14 pick in the draft according to nbadraft.net but again this doesn’t have much to do with him. The draft picks could be for anyone really.
but CHI would have to take on a very expensive contract for an injury prone player.
plus they are looking to use their cap space to bring Wade back home this offseason. Also, besides James Johnson, who do we get? In order to sign Bosh, we would have to get back expiring contracts. Who they going to be? Plus, we simply can’t switch Ray’s contract for Joe Johnson’s. Salary Cap restrictions simply won’t allow it.
sorry, my friend, but I don’t think you put enough homework into this idea.

ok number 1. get of the Chicago thing the team he goes to doesn’t matter. celtics wouldn’t be trading for bosh. what are you talking about you need to get back expiring contracts to sign bosh he is FREE AGENT if you have the money you can sign him, that doesn’t make sense. dont forget tony allen, brian scalabrine and the mle all can go into singing bosh, plus iam not asking the team that gets KG to pay his whole salary maybe 7-10 mill. also salary cap restrictions? ok ray allen unrestricted free agent, joe johnson unrestricted free agent, allen will no longer be celtic therefore they can do whatever they want with his money. they can spend it on 3 players or 1 player.
"ok ray allen unrestricted free agent, joe johnson unrestricted free agent, allen will no longer be celtic therefore they can do whatever they want with his money."
That’s not at all how the salary cap works.

also it doesn’t matter who we get in the KG trade the point is to shed the cap to sign Bosh. i have more Celtics and NBA knowledge than you or most people on this board. i understand the mle, the lle, eto’s, restricted tags to players drafted in 2006 all that stuff what i proposed makes sense financially as well as on paper for all parties involved. try to logically shoot it down and i can counter anything you say. it is a way for the celtics to stay relevant well past the new Big 3 era. if we got expiring contracts this summer through a trade it would do nothing to strengthen the cap until they expired the following summer of 2011.
If you think you have so much knowledge, prove it.
Show me the trade, don’t care what team, that would give us the cap space to sign Bosh and Johnson. Actual players and salary. Not just theory. Then show me how it works under the league’s CBA. Do the homework. After that, we’ll talk.

STOP TAKING DRUGS
Your quote “it doesn’t matter who we get in the KG trade the point is to sign Bosh”. Your knowledge of Celtic basketball is extremely limited. Just because you look at something des not mean you know what you are looking at.. Case in point Bosh, he looks good gives you great stats. Now pay attention….. Bosh does not play defense. You have Kg gone no defensive stopper and your earth shattering idea is to bring in a man that’s as soft as cotton. Your idea has more holes than a window shade
I’ll bring you up to speed on Joe Johnson when you try and defend the first part of that garbage
Hmm
Perhaps it is your overwhelming knowledge of the NBA and the cap that makes it so difficult for me to understand you. If you could break it down in more specific terms, perhaps the rest of us could follow you. At this point, my real question is how the Celtics would fit the 19-20 mil a year of the Johnson contract as well as the big money of the Bosh contract under the cap for next year when the C’s are already committed to pay Pierce and Rondo somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 mil. That would make the Celtics’ 2010 payroll commitment something like $70 million dollars. This exceeds the projected salary cap even before counting money owed to Perk and ‘Sheed. Since the C’s have Bird rights to neither neither Bosh nor Johnson, they cannot sign them if the signing will take them over the cap. Based on these (admittedly) back-of-the-napkin numbers, it seems unlikely they could afford to sign even one of them, let alone both.
chris bosh cant play defense
im sorry but rather have kg then bosh.. bosh failed to lead his team n dont wana loose our emotional leader in kg.. u will see the defensive player of the year when kg is fully healthy
No, no, no... sry :P
the only way to do that stuff is by going with sign and trade with the teams that hold the bird rights… BTW, this is a crazy move… KG is THE MAN… it’s not about muscle or tecnique, but defensive mentality and work’s ethic… You can assume that with bosh and johnson the offensive part will be better yeah… but it’s the defense that allows you to win rings… and you’re going to fall from the 2nd spot to the 30…
my 2 cents
