Stephane Lasme and Mario West Cut
According to A. Sherrod Blakely's Twitter account, Stephane Lasme and Mario West have been cut by the Boston Celtics.
My guess is the Celtics will keep Von Wafer, primarily to fill in for Delonte West while he serves his 10-game suspension, while Lasme will most likely sign with the Maine Red Claws.
I suppose we shouldn't rule out the idea of Lasme receiving other offers from other teams, though, including teams overseas. He had a great showing this preseason, so it wouldn't shock me if other teams came calling.

Well...
I was hoping Lasme made the roster….but it makes sense since the C’s will be without Delonte to keep Wafer for the beginning of the season and send Lasme to Maine.
I hope Lasme eventually makes his way back to the roster down the line…unless Wafer really impress’s Doc.
what is/was the purpose of Gallon signing...confusing to me still...trade? I don't get it
Is it Soup Yet?
Purpose...
Well I think the reasoning behind it was so that he would be eligible to play for Maine, but I don’t think there was much point to it.
I think I've got this
The new rule says that an NBA’s D-League affiliate has the rights to the last three cuts of the parent team’s training camp roster. So by signing Gallon, he will likely be the last cut, meaning he’d have to play for Maine (or in another league).
Now, what I don’t know is if the Celtics have exclusive or first right of refusal on him — say another team likes his play and wants to add him, can the Celtics say “We want him” and make the necessary roster adjustments to add him. Doesn’t seem possible, I guess that’d be too much like a real minor league…
The last three cuts of the parent team can be assigned to its D-League affiliate
thus bypassing the draft that fills out the D-League team rosters. It allows a team to persue a project but not take up one of the 15 roster spots. This signing may also be a reaction to the new rule as it is perhaps a way to better fill out the roster for the D-League teams than the draft itself. It allows a team to fill a specific need up front with a player who wants to be there.
That is the thing of it, the player has to want to play in the D-League. A player signed under this new rule is able to leave for an offer from any other NBA team or from an over-seas team. I believe the Celtics signed Gallon with Portland in mind. Perhaps also with the trading deadline in mind, as some others have proposed. Regardless, Gallon is an intriguing player. He is not really all that under-sized, as was mentioned earlier yesterday in another thread.
Or maybe Austin just asked papa for a big power forward and Keith agreed. Nah!! It’s about Gallon’s potential.

Lasme...
…I wish him luck, but I wouldn’t fret too much.
27 year old tweener averages 4.8 points and 3.0 rebounds in 14 minutes in preseason.
Put Lasme's stats in perspective.
Compare him to another defensive-oriented small forward, Bruce Bowen. Bowen was a key member of three championship teams. And what did he average? 6.1 points and 2.8 rebounds on an average of 27.6 minutes a game. Dismiss Lasme if you want. But a lot of great teams have come to rely on guys like Bowen.
Bowen had the three-pointer, though
Easier to get away with your big man being a garbage-scorer, since you want them near the basket anyway to grab rebounds. If Lasme wants a Bowen-like career, he needs to be able to hang out around the 3-point line and hit 35% – 36% of those shots. Otherwise, he’s clogging the interior. With his current skillset, you almost have to pair him with perimeter-oriented big men (probably could have played him with ’Sheed, probably not with BBD).
I didn't see anything in preseason that made me think that Lasme's defense was on Bowen's level...
If it was, he’d still be on the team. Lasme is an above-average defender, not a lock-down guy.

maybe, maybe, maybe
In this league, I don’t think anyone’s a lock-down defender. But I surely agree, Lasme may be no where near as good as Bowen was. I just don’t know. But I do think, defensively, he looked far better than Wafer (who again, in the final game against the Nets, stunk up the place on defensive).
Also we should note, when the Celtics had Bruce Bowen here, they apparently didn’t see him as a lock-down defender either.
Wafer seems like a punk
I watched the game on the YES network, unfortunately, but right after the game, their coverage showed Wafer as he was coming off the court, and he completely ignored whatever it was that Coach Frank was trying to tell him. Frank was trying to slow him down to tell him something, and Wafer kind of pulled his arm away as he walked right by, with a smug look on his face.
Anyone else see it or have a clip? Armond Hill and Kevin Eastman looked pretty ticked about it.
I would not have been at ALL upset if Lasme had made the team instead.
Yeah...
His talent can help us, but he definitely projects a poor attitude. If he performs, I think he’ll stick around, but if he blocks out the coaching staff and tries to “get his”, he’ll be gone.

Yeah, there was something going on there...
They were supposed to hold the ball & run the clock, but Wafer wanted to showboat. You could tell that made some Nyet players mad. Then, Wafer is walking off the court & won’t listen to anybody. Rajon is there to high five the guys coming off the court, & Rajon has a strange look on his face as Wafer goes storming by. Wafer has a temper. It’s very hard to coach up guys who have short fuses. Wafer got several T’s in the preseason when you would think he would be on his best behavior trying to make the team. There is a mental aspect there which I think is a time bomb…..
Over on Espn Boston, Wafer had some comments…“……But like I said, making the team is not enough, man. I’ve been playing in the NBA for five years, sitting on the bench for four years. You can’t get better sitting on the bench. I want to play”……………That sounds like trouble because seriously guys, how many minutes can he get???
Lasme has skills & brains. You can always use a shot blocker who can rebound. He finishes well around the basket. His help D was really good (blocking shots). And I don’t think he is volatile & yelling at the refs for all his troubles. He listens to coaches. There are enough egos on this team without adding a powder keg who has a history of trouble with coaches etc. I love the Cs & I hope everything works out, but I’ve got a bad feeling about Mr. Wafer. Hope I’m wrong
I saw that too
I think he had words with a Net player -possibly Lopez.
I’m guessing that the Nets thought he shouldn’t have tried to score with time running down. That is normally considered bush league.
whether he scored at the end of the game or not
he didn’t make any points with the Nets.
Yeah, bush league. Where he will end up unless he actually “gets it” some time in the next 10 games.

Not a fan of Wafer
I agree. He attempted a shot in the final seconds that was not necessary. He was probably trying to “pad” is preseason stats. The hilarious thing was that he was blocked on his self-serving attempt at trying to score.

Yup.
14 other guys on the team would have dribbled the clock out. I was glad to see the EMPHATIC rejection of Wafer’s shot attempt. He needs to grow up and get with the program PDQ or he’s going to be on the outs, either in ten games when Delonte returns (and they sign Lasme) or in February, when veteran guys start taking buyouts.
Make that 13 other guys...
Nate would have followed the Wafer method. ;)

His contract is only partially guaranteed.
I bet he gets cut mid December (after Delonte is back) before those non guaranteed deals become fully guaranteed. Think Lester last year.
His game and attitude will wear on this team (cancer in the locker room) and they would likely enjoy have a spot open for a buyout etc……

Lasme
In todays gave, tommy H noted on how quick lasme’s leaping ability was to block shots and rebound, he even compared his agility to the stylings of bill russell. I’m sad to see him not get his shot at teh last roster spot. but todays game von wafer showed he wanted to be on the roster, he played with focus and determination
Sigh...
I love Tommy, but he should know better than to mention a scrub player in the same sentence as Bill Russell.
Also, Lasme is a fairly poor rebounder, and his defense is nowhere near as other-worldly as Russell’s.

Lasme had one of the better preseasons for the celts pickups. pretty disappointing, his energy and athleticism is definately going to be missed, to me wafer was a disappointment, fill in out not for delonte i would have rather had lasme running up and down the court.
I don't think we've seen the last of Lasme
They love the kid and think there’s a good chance he makes his way back to the big club. Sucks for him to be playing on a D-League contract instead of making NBA dough, though.
Well, I'll admit I have a soft spot for Wafer, so congrats.
But yeah, he’s a bit of an idiot.

If Lasme was as good as some of his supporters say...
… he wouldn’t just have made the team, but he’d be named a starter. Some folks are acting like he plays better D than Ron Artest.

I have never read anything like that statement.
A good hustle guy for spots 12-15 on a roster, nothing more. A break glass in case of emergency player. But you know you would get great effort fom him. You put Wafer in that same role I am positive you wont get the same effort or result.

I don't overrate Lasme
But he certainly seemed to outplay Wafer during these preseason games. We are talking the 14-15 guy on the team but the vets seemed to favor him and he was an energy guy with a sympathetic story. There is NO reason though not to trust the choices that Danny and Doc have been making so Wafer it is
I agree, Ainge and the coaches have seen far more than we have, and have exceedingly more expertise.
But then, we’re fans. And for fans, the whole point is to come to your own views based upon what little you’ve seen and what little you know. Otherwise, there’s no point in watching games or discussing any of this.
Wafer can shoot but...
He has shown himself to be as advertised in every negative aspect of his game and as a teammate. I have no problems with Doc and Danny taking on problems; but you have to want it and this guy just dies not get what the Celtics are all about. I have not seen anything to suggest that he gets it! Whether its ubuntu or bleeding green or tommy points whatever it is BBD gets it, Delonte gets it, Nate gets it.
