missing link? a great wingman: trevor ariza
- great wing defender - a perimeter defender is a necessity in the nba nowadays, (considering lebron and wade is under one team now). what i mean by a GREAT DEFENDER is a guy who can stop guys like lebron, wade, durant or even ex-teammate KOBE!
- energy player - especially we have many veterans on our team, energy is VITAL
- can shoot the three (i'm not sure but base on stats, he got the most 3pt FG made in the 2009 playoffs)
- has championship experience (obviously)
- athletic (also obvious)
- young age (25 years old)
- can run with rondo
all the characteristics of a player which our celtic team needs, i'm wondering if a trade before the trade deadline can be done by DA? instead, of rudy fernandez (great shooter, weak defender), shane battier (great defender, great 3pt shooter, but is already old) wilson chandler (great shooter, athletic, but weak defender) or tayshaun prince (great defender, great 3pt shooter, high salary), why not this unheralded guy?
I need you ideas co-celtic fans, let's go for banner 18!
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Just the sort of player we could use but...
Remember reading an article about him a year or two ago in which he professed a great dislike for the Celtics.. So screw him!!
He only makes 6.3mil, that is easier to match than
Carmello’s 17 mil., who is mentioned here quite often.
I don’t know about his dislike for the Celtics but if you remember, Paul Pierce didn’t grow up loving the Green Team all that much.
I see melo mentioned alot too
Yea once i started lookin at the name, it turns out the reason I keep seein those melo comments everywhere is cus this one dude keeps postin it all over here over and over again lol. Seriously hes like obsessed. And I thought about the pierce comparison too, but that’s different, he got drafted so its not like he had complete control. If Ariza came it would be his decision. Check out this page, it proves this whole thread is pointless cus he really REALLY would never come here.

We don't need Ariza
What we need is a healthy BIG 6.
Our lineup right now is already a championship caliber team.
and hey! Daniels is doing great
BANNER 18 in 2011
MORE NAMES!!!
1) Perkins and Bradley for Mullens and Harden (Pipe Dream)
2) Perkins for COREY BREWER and Kosta Koufos
3) Perkins for Josh Childress or Jared Dudley and Gani Lawal
4) Perkins and Harangody for Nocioni and Battie
No to all of those and for so so many reasons
What do you have against Perk?

Hornets aren’t looking to move Ariza. They just traded Collison, who they liked, for him.
Only way guys like him move is if the team realizes they can’t win for a couple years, and will rebuild with young players/high draft picks.Even in that case he wouldn’t be the first guy to go in New Orleans. If they are scrapping it and starting over Paul and West would be the first guys heading out.
Even in the unlikely scenario NO moved him, the Celtics don’t have much, if anything, to trade for him.
DA is genius in acquiring new guys
well if DA can promise a championship for this guy, then why not loving this team? LOL
as I see it, new orleans is not in champion-caliber team yet and not doing quite impressive in the pre-season and in the season as well, with the issues of CP3 demanding for a trade and david west unlikely to sign again with the team, I think new orleans will be in great situation where they will have to accept to themselves that they will be in a rebuilding process, meaning, need of young but with potential players, why not harangody and a draft pick for him?
Some one like Ariza would be a great acquistion for the C's...
He would fit right in with the C’s both defensively and offensively.
Problem is their is no way for the C’s to acquire Ariza unless they trade big name players like Perk and Daniels or Baby, Daniels and a minimum contract player for him.
Now I would never do the Perk and Daniels trade since Perk is way to vital to give up in such a trade.
I would possibly consider giving up Baby, Daniels and a minimum contract player for Ariza only if:
1) The C’s really think Harangody can be a solid back up at the 4 behind KG and Jermaine
2) If the C’s add Lasme to the roster to provide spot duty at the 4 position to guard smaller athletic 4’s
3) If the C’s get assurances Rasheed Wallace will sign with them later in the year as is rumored.
….Because the C’s want to make sure that if they do trade Baby that they do not lose front court depth and have players who can fill the void as described above..
I think the C’s are thin at the 3 and would like them to bolster the position and if they do not want to give up a Perk or a Baby to get one lets keep in mind some talented back up 3 should become available later in the season that could be acquired via buyout signing.
we just really have to acquire a great wing defender, we have to fill the void left be TA, what if last season the celts were not able to stop wade in the first round? or lebron in the next round? now that they are under one team now it will be a big problem. allen and pierce may stop them for a while but it will cost them a lot of fouls, as i see the game against miami, daniels cannot stop wade nor lebron. he can DEFEND the wing but cannot STOP it.
Agree 100%
The loss of TA’s defense left a huge gap that must be filled.
We lost our Wade, Lebron and Kobe stopper in TA.
Daniels just can not defend as well as TA so it would be nice to try to acquire a defending 3 …. one that could also score like Ariza would be gravy.
In the meantime Id still like to see Lasme get a shot at the back up 3 and see if he can maybe become a spot duty defensive stopper at the 3 at least against the bigger more power full wing players like Lebron, Kobe etc.
disagree
you are managing as if an injury to Pierce or Daniels will happen when you say “we just really have to acquire …”
The first priority is to put a championship rotation of 8-9 guys on the floor. Beyond that, you want as much depth as you can get, but you do not hurt your top 9 in order to upgrade your bottom 6. Cardinal Rule. Championships are won with the top 9.
So, yeah, it would be nice to have more depth at the 3, it is not necessary and indeed does not help you at all unless Pierce or Daniels gets hurt. And acquiring such might hurt you elsewhere depending on what you trade.
And I’m sorry but folks need to correct their memories a bit. TA did fairly well against Wade, but he did NOT do well defending either Kobe or Lebron. In the playoffs it was pretty much Ray who actually controlled Kobe and Pierce was the only one slowing Lebron down at all. I especially have no recollection of TA ever really slowing Lebron down at all.
Disagree
1st. Yes titles are won with usually the 1st 9 players but as we saw last year we lost the title due to lack of depth.
Its always best to plan for injury’s as Danny has done this year by bulking up the back court and front court…. all he has to do is follow the same plan at the 3 position for the C’s to have insurance at all roster positions prior to entering the playoffs in case injury’s strike any of our players.
2nd. I agree fully it makes no sense to acquire depth at the 3 position if it takes trading away depth from other positions (as my 1st post above mentions).
But if the C’s can be assured they have a proper replacement for that player being traded away (like my example in my post above with Baby being replaced by Harangody, Rasheed and Lasme) then I think it makes sense to make the move since the net result will be the C’s have become a better team overall without losing any depth or talent at the same time.
3rd. I think and recall TA did a pretty good job on Wade, Lebron and Kobe last year.
You may recall that. But the numbers for TA on Lebron and Kobe for TA were not all that great.
He did do a great job against Wade in that first series.
the point here
is not taking for granted our top 9 players or so, I just believe that competitive teams in NBA, or championship teams I must say, has its very own defensive stopper which would weaken another teams star player, for example Bruce Bowen of the Spurs (before), James Posey of Celtics (Before), Trevor Ariza of LA (Before) ,Mickael Pietrus of the Magic, Tayshaun Prince of the Pistons, Shane Battier of the Rockets, and lastly Artest and Barnes of our rival LA (this is threathening). we really lack it so I think DA should find someone to fill that void. it is not about lacking the wing position, it is about not having a defensive stopper.
We do have our very own defensive stopper, in fact we have two . . .
Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.
Some of the players you list are starters or close to starters. I think the idea here is to find the guy somewhere near the price range that the Celtics can afford, or rather, will fit into their salary cap situation.
We are talking about an upgrade to or a backup for our backup 3, not a marginal all star.
Lets not throw out the Baby with the bathwater in our search for this elusive player!!!
+1
Its all about adding depth.
Though the C’s have Pierce who is a defender/stopper at the starting 3 position, the C’s do not have a back up defender/stopper at the 3 position coming off the bench.
Though Daniels can play defense he is not a defensive one on one shut down defender like TA, Posey , Bowen etc are.
The C’s weakest roster spot is the back up 3 position and if Danny can bolster the position by acquiring a defensive stopper (one that could score also would be gravy) it will insurance in case Pierce gets injured or in foul trouble especially as we head into the playoffs.
Lets keep in mind if Danny can not trade for a back up defending 3 or fears giving up to much to get one he can and probably acquire one on the cheap via a buyout signing later in the season.
I think DA has a plan
and we should wait for that trade deadline. I think it would be very exciting. LOL
