Celtics Stuff Live: Steve Bulpett
Join us tonight from 9-10pm EST when Steve Bulpett from the Boston Herald will be joining us to talk about Rondo and the loss to the Thunder on Friday night. Steve has an explanation in this morning's herald:
But the larger cause can be found in Greek mythology. Like the Sirens who lured passing sailors toward danger with their enchanting voices, the Celtics’ recent success on offense appeared to seduce them. For three quarters they chased the sound of their names being announced after scores.
Along the way they lost sight of their defensive horizon. They tried to take a different route to victory and, so, were forced to bail water from a loss as they headed to Toronto for the next test of their focus this afternoon.

I like Steve Bulpett.
He’s always a nice read.
But that is just flowery silliness that had nothing to do with the ‘reason’ for the loss.
The ‘reasons’ for the loss were abnormally good outside shooting by the Thunder and abnormally poor free throw shooting by the Celtics.
I don’t know that I completely agree with your assessment of the Friday night loss. The transition defense was rough and even though it was a lower scoring game overall, that doesn’t mean the C’s played adequately. I think they looked to be playing hard, but the typical struggles in transition and a failure to secure long rebounds put them in that spot too often.
And, after watching the first-half performance against the Raptors, the perimeter defense has been poor two games in a row. I think that is a more likely explanation than just running into a team that was shooting abnormally good from outside (the exception would be Ibaka – who was definitely a surprise for the Thunder, but also frequently left open because of how well Westbrook was playing).
