"My beef is with Adrian Wojnarowski’s latest piece on Lebron. I get that Woj finds Lebron to be everything wrong with sports. I understand that. In a way, I agree with it. But there comes a time when we need to stop blaming everything on Lebron." - Jay King of CelticsTown

wojo is the ONLY one who blames lebron..

yes he is over the top at times… but none of the national media has EVER held him accountable for anything.. its time people started to look at him and say… does he have what it takes to win?

by jbuell719 on Nov 30, 2010 6:38 PM EST reply actions

There might be some truth to this but...

Wrong timing for the comment. Who else in the world would you blame for the Spolestra / Heat feud story Monday? It’s insane to think theres anyone else behind it besides Lebron.

Needed Antidote

.. to LBJs sense of entitlement and the 24/7 hype machine that feeds it. Woj is flogging that horse (the guy is something of a front runner) but I dont happen to think its dead, yet,

Meanwhile, here’s to Spoelstra for introducing a new word to LBJ’s vocabulary: no. One can only hop the leaked comments his coaching backfire.

Why..

.. do we have to stop?

by CsfanNH on Nov 30, 2010 7:15 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn't say Woj is the only one who blames LeBron

He’s certainly been the most outspoken critic of him over the past few years but after watching him this season others are starting to hop on board too. All anyone can do is speculate about what’s really going on with Spoelstra though, and how much of a catalyst LeBron is for the apparent dissent between the players and head coach.

I have to admit as a Celtics fan and Heat hater (as of 4 months ago) I’m thoroughly enjoying the mess they’ve become and each new stage in the endless drama. After the way that team was assembled and that joke of an introduction PR stunt (the best trio ever and 8 championships, really?) they deserve every bit of the hate directed their way and I would like to see nothing more than them fail. They brought this upon themselves.

by Josh88 on Nov 30, 2010 7:21 PM EST reply actions

Wojo's hyperbole can be a bit much but...

LeBron keeps making comments that just keep the spotlight on him and the plight of the Heat (or rather, his not understanding the plight of the Heat.) What was overlooked because of the focus on the bump was The King’s latest comment that he can’t change his game and that Wade shouldn’t have to either and they just have to maintain their games while the team finds balance. How a team finds balance when their stars (and most of their payroll) won’t change is inexplicable to me (and I doubt Pat Riley has the answer either.)

But, again, I do agree that Wojo hurts his position by laying on the hyperbole and taking every chance (and concocting a few other opportunities) to bash LeBron.

disagree

As far as I can tell, this is the first season in which LeBron has faced any criticism for his team’s shortcomings. You heard all summer that “LeBron never had a supporting cast” even though those teams won 60 games!

You know what “got old”? The incessant excuses for, and enabling of, Bron’s petulant behavior. Perhaps it’s sensational, but it’s hardly “old,” nor is it unwarranted.

by JohnBagleyValueMeal on Nov 30, 2010 7:24 PM EST reply actions

REALLY???

Every media outlet d-rides lebron to insane levels. Wojo’s work is refreshing. Lebron deserves every bit of criticism he gets

by Guilty on Nov 30, 2010 7:24 PM EST reply actions

Until Lebron shows a little humility...

… I have no problem with fans and the media knocking him down a few pegs.

He’s a self-anointed king with a paper crown.

You're kidding me right?

ESPN is a 24 hour/ 7 day a week commercial for the greatness of LeBron and Wojo’s criticism is to much? That’s absurd! When LeBron stops leaking stories to his buds at the World wide leader then Wojo can stop. I don’t see either happening. The idea that LeBron is recieving too much criticism from the National media is in the words of Tommy Heinson “absolutley rediculous”.

Everything LeBron gets

He has earned twice over.

From his bad sportsmanship in Cleveland
To his God-awful handling of his free agency
To his incredible refusal to acknowledge said failure
And all throughout the same immature behavior that’s sinking the ship in Miami.

Hard to see which one is more annoying

-Lebron is extremely talented but not quite as successful as his attitude would hint. That’s annoying and fun to critique.

-Wojo is a lazy, boring, untalented one trick pony of a writer who takes non-creative paths to pile on guys way more talented at their craft than he is at anything. And is somehow employed. I kind of actually find that more insufferable.

Wojo is approaching Scheanessy (sp) level annoyance/hack/laziness.

No it's not

I really hope that everyone keeps treating and LeBron like the spoiled little brat that he is until he either grows up or gives up on his campaign to make himself “the king.”

by ZachFlavored on Nov 30, 2010 9:11 PM EST reply actions

well, you know what

the piling on lebron isnt going to stop as long as hes doing things like “bumping” his coach, and acting out.

by spinz on Nov 30, 2010 9:14 PM EST reply actions

No

Do I think people may eat their words at some point? Yes. The Heat are only 1/4 of the way into this season and have many more years together after this one to right the ship.

However, I have no problem with people dumping on them now. LeBron and Co. were a bunch of arrogant S.O.B.s this summer and deserve everything they get right now.

I think the Woj article is excellent

as it provides further specific evidence that James is delusional, and immature. Funny how the media has always covered up for him until now. Let the truth keep on flowin’!!

by footey on Nov 30, 2010 10:30 PM EST reply actions

That is Wojnarowski's schtick

His articles pretty much follow the same old morality tale, deeply-hued with that righteous indignation, disappointment, proselytizing and/or wry condescension. He’s usually writing about some villain or someone who’s not like some villain. Lebron happens to be Megatron (or pick a better alpha villain); he is a gold mine for Wojnarowski.

If you believe half the things guys like Woj say about him, well, Lebron probably deserves it. But I do see where something like this especially from Woj is getting old. His whole schtick doesn’t do a lot for me in general, but I do like a good solid Lebron rip-job though.

which btw

must make Bosh equivalent to Starscream. Not sure who that makes Wade…

by Berkcelt on Nov 30, 2010 11:13 PM EST up reply actions

I'd go with Cobra instead

LeBron is the whiny Cobra Commander
Wade is Destro, the second-in-command who might be better suited to lead.
Bosh is Zartan, the master of disguise who can all but disappear, much like CB4 has for much of this season.

by SoulHonky on Dec 1, 2010 12:51 AM EST up reply actions

It's old

I’m really getting tired of the South Beach Soap Opera. How about writing about the Hornets or Spurs hot starts? Or the fact that the Lakers are 2-3 against winning teams and 11-2 against -500 teams? Anything but Lebron.

by LuckyNumber07 on Nov 30, 2010 11:20 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I love Woj's work..

but i get what people are saying.. then again, LeBum is just a goldmine for those kind of posts, you really can’t blame the Woj for piling on him.. whoever heard of fair play in journalism anyway?

and like some of the commentators here have said, he deserves most of the criticism after this ridiculous off-season.. also, we all know somewhere down the line, this team will start winning, and we are gonna just hate that, so we might as well enjoy this while it lasts!

10 bucks says he pulls some stunt at the Cavs game to warrant another piece on him this weekend..

by Gehan on Dec 1, 2010 2:06 AM EST reply actions

It's really pretty simple

Lebron is a great player, one of the best ever. If he ever gets a great team around him, he’ll win championships. If he doesn’t, he won’t. This is a team sport in which no single player can win championships… it’s impossible. And I’m pretty sure Lebron knows it’s impossible. That’s why he jumped over to Miami, hoping that a great team would form around the core 3. I see nothing wrong with that. I see nothing wrong with any of his actions. Is there a hype machine? Sure… that’s how money gets made in our capitalist society. Lebron is playing the same games everybody else plays, on multiple fronts… he’s just doing it better than most. More power to him. I understand he has detractors. Every successful person does. Means nothing. Just like all the brouhaha emanating from Wojnarowski, et al. It’s all just noise.

by JR99 on Dec 1, 2010 5:33 AM EST reply actions

say what?

“If he ever gets a great team around him” — pretty sure he’s had exactly that the last 2-3 years in cleavland and he couldn’t pull it out. When you win 60+ games, you have a pretty darn good team around you, good enough to win a chip.

“Is there a hype machine?” – the name of that hype machine is Lebron…did you forget this last summer? He is his own worst enemy and he doesn’t even realize it. If he would just shut his mouth it would go a long way towards him regaining some credability. Shut up and work on your game, that’s what ball players do. They don’t dance around on a smokey stage, hold 1 hr specials and then stink it up on the court, that’s what Lebron does.

“Lebron is a great player, one of the best ever.” – I can agree, he’s great but ‘one of the best ever’? If coming up short at the most critical times, every single time, defines ‘best ever’ then there is one huge huge list of ‘best evers’.

“I see nothing wrong with any of his actions” – I don’t want to get too personal here but come on….you don’t see anything wrong with ANY of his actions? none of the ‘i won’t change my game’, ’i’m not a role player’, ‘44 mins, that’s too much for me’, the decision, throwing the coach under the bus. Nothing wrong with any of that?

LBJ is the biggest front runner of them all. when things are going well, he’s all smiles, dancing around and living it up, posing for the cameras, looking at his hand. When things turn for the worse, he shrivels into the little scared boy he is, scared to be a man, scared of failure and that is why he will always fail…….he is scared.

by IowaGuy on Dec 1, 2010 9:00 AM EST up reply actions

He is?

‘Lebron is a great player, one of the best ever" Uhm, he’s a gifted athlete with a rare combo of strength and guickness that allows him to destroy players one-on-one. Keep him out of the lane, tho, and he becomes something less special. He doesnt shoot the long ball with accuracy, so you can afford to make him a 3-point shooter. He doesnt have a mid-range game or a step back, tools which could make him more dangerous. He’s a turnover prone. He coasts on D. He doesnt do stuff to make his teamates better. And he did something that Russell, Bird, Magic, Jordan, even Kobe would not have done: he QUIT on him team in a PLAYOFF series. I’d say he has a ways to go to erase that before he qualifies as a great.

by Tenacious D on Dec 1, 2010 8:01 AM EST reply actions

No, Jay, there isn't a time when blaming Lebron must stop.

He IS everything wrong with sports. Until that is no longer the case, everyone should be yelling from hilltops across the world that Lebron is setting a bad example.

Unfortunately, Woj seems to be one of the very few to consistently point this out. With ESPN essentially turning into Lebron’s official homepage, all voices of dissent are necessary.

I specializes in grammar fail.

Yeah we need more focus on Stern and Kobe

Look the NBA has the 3 biggest jerks in Sports – Lamebron, Kobe and Stern. Kobe and Stern get a free ride because Lamebron is so dominate at pathetic. :-0

Get over it...

In no shape, form or fashion am I a LBJ fan. But it is getting old. I’m sick of hearing his name. People are overanalyzing everything he does. Yea the Heat suck right now, but it’s still early and people are already writing them off. I remember those same people saying C’s will not get past 1st round of playoffs last year. And we all know how that turned out (please do not say it’s different, because i would venture to say that last year NO ONE on this blog site would have imagined C’s going to Finals after witnessing BLOWOUTS to Nets, OKC, GRIZZLIES, struggling to beat WIZARDS ETC). And that’s not to say I want them to win, but I am saying I’ll judge when it’s all said and done.

Nopes

I wrote Operation Fo’ Fo’ Fo’ before the playoffs.

http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=36355.0

It was foreseen that the Celts would prevail in the 2010 playoffs.

Remember, starting 2007, the Cavs were alleged favorites for EC champ by all the news media.

This Just In

Quoted in Vecsey today .“As good as Wade and LeBron are, I would take the ball out of their hands as much as possible and run them off picks and post up, especially LeBron, as the Heat don’t have a post game” http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/more_sports/miami_burning_6B1Zu9wd2RHLEiQl3w4RHM#ixzz16uQdXEGr. May I add: fat chance (no glory in that).
