Ray Really Was Hurt

In case you were wondering (via the Herald):

"Yeah, I was thinking of opening by announcing a trade tonight,'' joked Rivers. "But Ray had trouble moving in shootaround today, and when he got back to the hotel he could barely move. But we'll just keep moving on. We're used to it. He couldn't play if he wanted to.

"The good thing now is that he'll have four or five days (during the all-star break) to rest it.''

Perfect!!!

Our only true trade chip, now has back issues. What’s next? Maybe we can give Scals a max deal.

Then Patino can walk through that door

I don't think Ray has to be healthy to be traded

if all the other team cares about is his expiring contract.

by mmmmm on Feb 11, 2010 11:39 AM EST up reply actions

Hmm, good to hear that there Ray was not rested for a trade.

I wish him a speedy recovery, the guy deserves a lot of rest for all the minutes he’s played this season.

Unfortunately I think last night’s disaster will push Danny to trade Ray… but hopefully I’m wrong.

trade chip

If you read Chris Sheridan’s article he doesn’t list Ray’s expiring deal in his top 12 trade prizes. What’s up with that? Ricky Rubio is ahead of Ray?

If they lied, this quote wouldn't change anything

…since Doc would be in on it. We just don’t know.

I Don't Believe It for a Minute

There may not be a trade, but at minimum this was done to give Ray some additional rest around the all star break. I do not believe he was hurt.

Agree for the most part

But why wouldn’t he have been at the game last night?

by richtrader on Feb 11, 2010 11:34 AM EST up reply actions

EVERYONE IS MISSING IT

Paul Pierce is the best one to trade. Pierce is dirt slow his defense stinks and on top of that he’s very selfish. You don’t think he’s selfish…..he was pulled out of practice because of the foot problem. He begs soft azz Doc Rivers to let him play and he stinks up the place. He did not play because of a since of duty……he played because he wanted the 3 pt shoot out at the allstar game. Pierce did not cause us to loose, but whenever he played there was 5men for them an 4 men for us. We can never win like that. Think that’s bad what if House and Scal was in, now it’s 5 on 2.

Everyone agrees Ray Allen is one of the best shooters of all time. Check this out…but he only takes between 8and 10 shoots a game. But PP takes 15 shots a game. When there is a technical foul shot, who takes it PP, but Ray shoots almost 6pts better than PP. There are so many just plain stupid things being done by Doc.

New players will be traded for but we really still do not truly know what we need because Doc has lost control of the team. That Doc Rivers nice guy B.S. is for the birds. Doc is like the parent that puts you on punishment for a week but that night everything is forgotten.

So lets get this straight we need to trade Pierce and fire soft azz Doc.

by tyquinton on Feb 11, 2010 11:25 AM EST reply actions

Um...

Are you even a Celtics fan? Pierce has done far more for this organization than Ray has. Additionally, Ray does shoot the Tech shots, unless he isn’t playing for the game. In that case Doc defers to Pierce because he is the best candidate after Ray on the line. Also, did you graduate from college? I’m just guessing that would be a “no” considering your writing capabilities. Reggie Miller was also a fabulous shooter, do you think he can help this team? Maybe we should start a petition for him and Michael Redd. The Celtics could shoot the lights out then! They need to get younger and more athletic in a big way. Lastly, since you seem to have given this a lot of thought, which teams would you suggest are willing to take an injured Pierce with another year left on his contract for near max money?

by funkstarrdeluxe on Feb 11, 2010 11:35 AM EST up reply actions

Pierce is probably retiring a Celtic

So enough of this trash about trading him.

by Tai on Feb 11, 2010 11:50 AM EST up reply actions

Ray is the one that shoots technicals

Just to point out this one—-not that I’m even close to agreeing w you on other comments

since he really was injured...

then they should really consider trading him. We don’t need another chronically injured starter in this team

by hpantazo on Feb 11, 2010 11:49 AM EST reply actions

Chronically?

He’s missed one game all season. That’s the complete opposite of chronic.

Stop feeling sorry for Ray...

If he`s traded, Ray would be stepping off the “Titanic” {Celts}, and into a nice safe “raft” {new team}.

by Title 18 on Feb 11, 2010 12:59 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

The sad thing is that, of the Big 3, the first one who’s contract is up for trade is the one that is still playing decently and has been the most healthy this year (last night being the only game he’s missed all year). You would kinda hope it was the other way around.

Unless Danny pulls a rabbit out of his hat with this trade deadline, the next two years could be very, very painful. Losing Ray could be like stepping over a precipice.

Hey! We are only about 8 games out of a lottery pick!!

Okay – now I’m giving in to negativism …. sorry.

Trades

I don’t think Ainge wants to trade Ray unless he can get a four or a five for him. In his heart of hearts he must know KG is never going back to 2007/2008 again and he needs someone like that to pair with Rondo going forward this year and in the future. Boozer, Millsap, Love, Al, David Lee, Bosh someone to take care of the front court. If he can’t do any of those and if he’s bound to move Ray, I hope he gets a shooter or two. Without Ray’s deep shooting it will get ugly on offense as we have no one that can drive to the basket looking to score anymore.

1988 all over again ?

this team reminds me of the 88 team. made to the east finals lost to the pistons due to injury,s made a great effort the big three played alot of minutes and had alot of injurys and had a weak bench and from that point on it was rebuilding for the next 20 years i hope it is not the case with this team ..
