Jamison Still On The Table

Wojo updates his twitter with the following:

Butler is going to Dallas, but Wiz and Celts will continue to discuss a scaled down deal for Jamison, source says. Boston still interested.

Cavs and Celts will go head to head for Jamison, but sources say Cavs are very involved in talks for Amar'e Stoudemire.

More details as they become available.

This hasn't been reported, but if you check the trade checker, a deal for Ray Allen and Glen Davis for Jamison and Mike Miller actually works financially.  It also maintains roster balance (SG and PF for SG and PF).  Thoughts?

UpdateSBNation reports that Butler to Dallas is happening.  It isn't clear yet what the final pieces are, but the Josh Howard is going to the Wizards and Butler is going to be a Mav.

Update 2: In case you missed it, Steve Bulpett did confirm the Celtics interest in Caron Butler before the deal with Dallas took shape.

Update 3: Ken Berger reports that a Butler/Haywood for Ray deal was discussed:

The Wizards were deeply involved in discussions with Boston that would've sent Butler and Haywood to the Celtics for Ray Allen, but that deal apparently died for a combination of reasons. The Wizards were reluctant to include Antawn Jamison in the swap, and the Celtics were concerned about taking on large contracts as they try to position themselves to remain a threat down the stretch and also to improve in future seasons.

I don`t want Jamison! With Butler OK but alone, no way!

Yeah, if Amare goes to CLE we are screwed. I guess that was the big deal McHale talked about…

Now, I am depressed…

Who voted yes?

Yeah, I wanna know who are the folks voting yes to trading for just Jamison?

Jamison + Mill for Ray and a 1st or BBD

makes some since. Especially if Ray get bought out

interesting

Jamison and Mike Miller for Ray and Glen Davis works in the checker

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yhe5jje

would seem to be a direct 2 for 2 deal too

I'm still on board for Jamison + Miller

Not sure if the WIzards do this though as they would only be moving Jamison’s salary. Miller’s comes off the books this season. I guess it depends how far beneath the cap they think they need to get.

who would you rather if this is true

Jamison or Butler!!i would have to go for Butler.Hes only 28 or so!!Jamison is 33!!!we need young players!!Butler would have been the answer.I dont really like Jamison coming to Boston if it happens.

by mattrob23 on Feb 12, 2010 6:50 PM EST reply actions

Butler is less than a month off 30

I agree that this doesn’t really help the age factor. But it seems Butler is pretty much headed to Dallas unless Ainge swings something at the last minute.

And IMO, the player most valuable to the Celtics of those two is definitely Jamison. We need a guy who can start in KG’s place until he can get healthy. Jamison can score and he can rebound. The drawback is that he doesn’t defend the rim like KG used to.

If we can’t get Jamison we might as well look at the other Bulls or Kings deals that have been suggested.

by Celticsbloke on Feb 12, 2010 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

We don't need more bigs

For the sake of more bigs. I was willing to take Jamison has a complement to Butler to ship off Ray (and possibly get him back in a buyout), but there’s no point in getting ONLY Jamison.

Now, if we could possibly get Mike Miller, then maybe we’re talking again.

by Tai on Feb 12, 2010 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

i think that ray, at his age and all, is still the better player for the celtics than miller would be. idc about fg%and all right now. if we cant get a big trade for ray, then he should stay here. theres no sense in trading him just to trade him when hes the most productive of the big 3 lately.

by WikedCeltsFan7 on Feb 12, 2010 8:08 PM EST up reply actions

I'd probably do ...

Ray & JR for Jamison & Miller. It makes sense for both sides. Miller would be a nice addition to go along with Jamison – plus his salary comes off the books after this season.

Anything is Possible!!!!!

Doesn’t make us a contender and handicaps money into an aging, good but not great player.

If Butler is not in the trade, then I think its not worth trading Ray for just Jamison

The Butler & Jamison trade rumor was a nice deal since it remedied 2 C’s weak spots by giving us a strong, long , athletic wing defender and scorer as well as a long, athletic power forward who can rebound.

If Butler is not in the deal it I think the C’s should pass on it.

I like Amare and have even fan posted he would be great fit with the C’s.

If the Butler & Jamison trade is a no go, maybe Ainge can put that one on his trade radar.

by fordescort on Feb 12, 2010 7:00 PM EST reply actions

Jamison + Miller for Ray and BBD

And then Ray gets bought out and re-signs with us. Sign me up for this one!

by Drucci on Feb 12, 2010 7:01 PM EST reply actions

Ray and jetsam for Butler and Jamison was good even if Ray didn't return

But Jamison and Miller, I think we must get Ray back to justify taking on Jamison’s salary.

by Mencius on Feb 12, 2010 7:18 PM EST up reply actions

Think I would rather keep Ray and Baby

I would not do this deal as it seems to be close to fair just from a player perspective. If you factor in the fact that the Wizards would be shaving considerable money off their cap (I believe?), then I think we could do better?

Any chance our spare parts can match Jamison OR Miller’s contracts?

by droopdog7 on Feb 12, 2010 7:01 PM EST reply actions

His contract is crap, it was sweetened by the fact that we were getting Caron… but i don’t think he’s worth that on his own.

by jesse_stoneham on Feb 12, 2010 7:08 PM EST reply actions

Let the Cavs Have Him

We’re not beating the Cavs this year anyway. So Jamison is going to take Garnett’s minutes? I don’t get it. Jamison can’t guard sfs, and if you play Jamison alongside Garnett, who is going to rebound?

Now, if the Celtics could also get Brendan Haywood (a player I like) and/or Mike James, that might change my thinking.

by Brickowski on Feb 12, 2010 7:09 PM EST reply actions

lol mike james

Haywood is going to the Mavs it looks like

by DaGribb on Feb 12, 2010 7:50 PM EST up reply actions

I watched a couple of WAS games in the last couple of weeks and wasn`t impressed with Jamison at all. He was chucking up shot after shot. He is also a poor defender and a poor FT shooter. With his huge contract I don`t want him on the C`s.

With Butler OK. But certainly not alone. Caron is by far the better player…

by thebirdman on Feb 12, 2010 7:12 PM EST reply actions

er...

Not as cool, gotta say. Was very psyched about Butler’s athleticism. Sigh…

Still, who knows where this crazy carousel will stop?

by Hal Jordan on Feb 12, 2010 7:17 PM EST reply actions

Jamison alone? God, no.

Jamison + Mike Miller? Absolutely. Miller is the player I’m most interested in on that squad.

by Who on Feb 12, 2010 7:24 PM EST reply actions

i'd take hinrich over mike miller

and tt could solve our problems with offensive rebounds

ray+bbd for miller+jamison sounds like a trade that is made to make a trade

by friedgreentomatoes on Feb 12, 2010 7:30 PM EST reply actions

this is a bad deal.

by birdstache on Feb 12, 2010 7:41 PM EST reply actions

I we can somehow get Chicago to include Deng in a deal...

I’d way rather do that. The only way I’d think about taking Jamison + Miller for Ray + whatever is if we knew for sure that Ray would be bought out and return. Otherwise, no thanks to Jamison. Butler was what made that way more palatable. Jamison’s still a good player, but not worth taking on his massive salary without proper incentive.

Ray Allen is less than a year older than Antwan Jamison!!!!

Antwan Jamison has already had ankle surgery, has had back problems, missed 14 or so games this season with a shoulder injury……

Ray Allen is the ultimate professional, who I believe could run circles around Antwan J. Ray Allen more in one game than Antwan does in five. Ray Allen will accept less money, he wants to be Celtic, he would be a great mentor, he has no trouble coming off the bench,,,,,,I don’t get you fantast trader so anxious to do something!!! anything!!!! just pull a trigger!!! ant trigger!!! blaaahhhhhh I say

Mike Miller???? decent player…but he isn’t injury free…out already this year a bunch with torn calf muscles still giving him problems – I think he has only played 22 games so far…

Yeah Celtic Jihad for some not so young injured players……..crazy stuff

Is it Soup Yet?

by Master Po on Feb 12, 2010 7:51 PM EST reply actions

have to say that losing Ray and Baby and getting back Jamison and Miller helps us around the rim

better big rebounder, better big scorer but Miller can’t play in place of Ray excpet for an out of bounds set where we’d probably have Jamison, KG, Miller, PP and maybe House or Rajon.

However if the deal is that Ray returns, which CAN be arranged one ay or another of course its a huge upgrade as it takes Sheed, Perk, Baby and KG off the floor for a much better rebounder and scorer(Jamison) and gets Miller in for better three ball shooting.

I don’t hate Miller or Jamison its just that they don’t replace Ray. Miller guarding the 3 while PP slides to shooting guard isn’t anywhere as good as Caron guarding the three and Paul sliding over

by wahz on Feb 12, 2010 8:00 PM EST up reply actions

IF IF IF Ray was allowed (and that is a big IF) to come back I have 2 questions

How long does that take

and How much does Ray have to sacrifice in $ this year?

Make a Big Move

It would appear that Butler will be going to Dallas…too bad he wouldhave been a good fit.

Here is a trade that fits the Tracker and is still with Washington.

        Boston Trades Washington Trades
                           RPG ………………………….. RPG
  R. Allen …….. 3.4 …………. A. Jamison…… 8.8
  K. Perkins …. 8.1 …………. A. Blache ……… 5.0
  B. Scalabrini… .8 …………. B. Haywood …. 10.8
  G. Davis ……. 4.0 …………. M. Miller ……….. 6.1
           Total …. 16.3 ………………. Total ……. 30.7

We won’t win any championships if we don’t get rebounds. Celts are 29th out of 30 teams and it won’t happen. This adds a big plus to this critical stat.

Let’s be realistic….no one signed Davis during the off season for the reason we see now he is undersized {no wing span or height} and doesn’t jump. He gets his shots blocked under the basket 75% of the time.

Blache is a very physical player who also has some outside range.

Haywood is active and I like his attitude….Perk has become the cry baby and the refs have his number.

is it possible that danny is waiting to see what wash gets back from dallas. if it ends up being josh howard and miller for ray and 1st round pick. i’d be really happy. but adding another high priced aged big doesnt make to much sense to me.

by jdunn123 on Feb 12, 2010 8:19 PM EST reply actions

No Ray

Why not House, TA, Scal, and J.R. for Jamison? We keep Ray and Jamison becomes an outstanding sixth man for us. It works on Real GM. Then trade BBD for Augustin and we have a pretty sweet 9 man rotation that doesn’t break up the core.

by Jon on Feb 12, 2010 8:21 PM EST reply actions

Wait a second....

The Celtics weren’t willing to take Haywood? Hmm, that’s concerning. : (

The “don’t wanna take huge contracts” bull is getting to me, too. Is this why Martin + Nocioni won’t happen?

by Tai on Feb 12, 2010 8:22 PM EST reply actions

Apparently Dallas HAS landed Butler. We havent gotten Diddly and we may not even land anybody special – with Danny willing to denying he even played for the Celtics once, lol. We needed Butler if only cause the Cavs are apparently going for Amare. If they do get Amare, the Celtics can just about forget who they land. Or are you going to be content to play for seconds?

by Reyquila on Feb 12, 2010 8:40 PM EST reply actions

more rumors to come....

On this one I am with Master Po. Keep Ray, say no to Twan. I don’t buy the cap killer thing cause his deal will end with KG’s. The C’s will most likely be capped until Garnett is gone then Ainge can try for Durant. But does he come off the bench? Does he play the three and Pierce the two? That will go well defensively, not!. If Miller comes along too then we can upgrade our major strength which is 3 point shooting but how far does that take you? Miller will be gone after this season like Ray, unless Ray were to take a huge discount, and we would have left Jamison, KG and The Truth to go with Rondo and Perk. I don’t see it worth making the move. This team still needs to score better late but it REALLY needs perimeter D more. I would still rather go back and look at Deng again or maybe someone else we haven’t even discussed that will pop up in the next 6 days. An athletic wing who can defend and shoot. Not hard to find. LOL!!

i thought we already had him

isnt that what pauly and ta are supposed to be???

by tboneato on Feb 12, 2010 8:53 PM EST up reply actions

Ray isnt the issue...

The game against NO shows how we look w/o Ray. He isnt the problem KG isnt doing it on either end of the court. If KG was rebounding, scoring and playing D we would be just fine. They need to replace KG w/ someone who can play.

by tboneato on Feb 12, 2010 8:41 PM EST reply actions

Don’t want Ray for Jamison. That’s not going to win us a championship, and I’d rather see the ship sail into the sunset with Ray aboard.

by jurrasicearl on Feb 12, 2010 8:44 PM EST reply actions

i still think

if we keep ray, and tweak the bench a little bit (maybe get a bigger guy for davis) that this ship will be a duck boat heading down the streets of boston….

only if they feel kg & pp can stil play
otherwise we won in 08 & that was great.

Defense

This team was built to play defense first,Jamison has never been known to play defense ,also he will be 35 in a couple yrs.He isn’t a post player so we basically talkin a 3 with a 4’s height. He shoots as many 3’s as Ray does.We need someone who will play a postgame plus step out and hit a 17-18ft.jump shot. He’s more of a hybird 3/4 player that gives mostly offense when he’s motivated to but lack any defensive prowess.Butler is almost a duplicate of Pierce but a yr younger and less banged up at the time.I can’t see where either will make us better for this season…maybe if Butler started the season next yr.at the 2g,it probably would work.

by house_call on Feb 12, 2010 9:46 PM EST reply actions

Even Blache...

…Keep Ray, trade other expiring contracts for Blache. Yeah, I know he is not an outstanding citizen, but he can play and doesn’t cost that much.

by Little D on Feb 12, 2010 9:48 PM EST reply actions

Leave him there...

LeaveJaminson on the table as far as im concerned,..i think a lot of fans are looking at the offensive numbers more than the overall contributions.I would be concerned about the team defense and the transition defense with Jamison on the floor. He will not change at this stage of his career to suddenly start playing defense.

by house_call on Feb 12, 2010 11:01 PM EST reply actions

The Butler/Haywood for Ray deal would be good

Haywood has a near double-double average this year. His rebounding ability is exactly what we need. Considering his contract, he’s apparently a better choice over Jamison! Therefore, if the Butler/Jamison for Ray deal is good, why Ainge not do the Butler/Haywood for Ray deal? Sorry for my poor English. :(

by GreenSouul on Feb 12, 2010 11:16 PM EST reply actions

don't trade him!

it is better for the team not to have the trade..its good that allen will retire as a celtic…

by lhytspd_ on Feb 13, 2010 1:02 AM EST reply actions

No

No thanks. Jamison is mediocre at best and 33!! I rather DA work hard on trying to pry away David Lee from the Knicks. Throw a combo of Perk and someone else in there for Lee.

Anyways, we can do better. Like DA said, the deals will get good next week.

by Ragetti on Feb 13, 2010 7:29 AM EST reply actions

what Danny may be thinkng

is that he’s looking at salary commitment no longer than KG’s deal first. Second, he may have serious concerns on whether our offense is championship quality even though most of us worry about our defense. Looking at it from those aspects, Jamison makes some sense. He is a very versatile scorer and a good rebounder. Ainge is probably thinking that he would have another option as a go to scorer in crunch time besides Pierce. Danny may feel that his defense will get a little better with more health and time and be decent come playoff time. Whether that’s good enough time will tell. But this may be the reasoning why he would want Jamison if this is true.

by celty86 on Feb 13, 2010 8:03 AM EST reply actions

Jamison

is not mediocre and is in fantastic shape for 33. I’m still not sure about this move if it’s real but I’m not sure the other options are markedly better. Iguodala is younger and athletic but has a long contract as does Luol Deng. Is Kevin Martin on the market? Not sure what Ainge’s options are?

by celty86 on Feb 13, 2010 8:09 AM EST reply actions

Perk??

Ian Thomsen from SI was on WEEI a few weeks ago and mentioned that he thought that KG should look to reinvent himself more as a center / low post player to try and offset the advances of age. Wondering if Jamison interest could generate other moves if Ainge is looking at moving KG to the middle and having Jamison play the four. Ainge probably has most of our roster in play but would he seriously trade Perk. He probably would get some interesting proposals and also wouldn’t have to resign Kendrick. Food for thought….
