Pierce Likely Out, Daniels Has Flu

Boston Globe reports:

The Celtics' first choices to defend Cleveland's LeBron James in Thursday's game are Marquis Daniels and Paul Pierce. And both Daniels and Pierce missed practice Wednesday with flu symptoms.

Daniels could be available for the game but Pierce, who also has a sprained thumb, is likely out.

The Celtics also just tweeted:

Marquis Daniels missed practice with the flu, and Doc says Paul Pierce is almost certainly out tomorrow night vs. Cleveland.

Ok, I'll ask the question.  Did Nate bring the flu over from NY and infect Pierce and Daniels?  Somebody quarantine Rondo STAT.

Ugh

That really sucks. Hope Quis can play, but I want him to get better.

When will our whole team play together?!

+1

Lets’ see … prior to the trade we had a grand total of … 2? games with the complete top 9 rotation.

Then, since the trade (flipping Nate for Eddie in that group), we’ve had …. zero.

So that’s 2 games all YEAR with our top 9 and NONE with our current, expected-for-the-playoffs top 9.

by mmmmm on Feb 24, 2010 5:17 PM EST up reply actions

I would say we have a 10 man rotation

Who do you leave off?
Baby or Tony
shame shame

by Warrior Spirit on Feb 24, 2010 6:06 PM EST up reply actions

hmmm, you are right

The current top 10 would be (in no particular order so people don’t get yer panties in a bunch if I mentioned your fav after another):

Starters:
Rondo
Ray
Pierce
KG
Perk

2nd Unit:
Sheed
Daniels
BBD
TA
Robinson (formerly House)

Deep bench:
Scal
Shelden
Marcus

For much of the year, it wasn’t a full 10 man deep rotation. BBD was out. Daniels was out. KG was out. Paul was out. Etc. Etc. So most of the minutes have been going to about 7 or 8 players!

We desperately could use some extended roster stability. Folks need to get used to playing with each other again!

As much as I want a win...

…I’d rather see them play well (i.e. strong defense, rebounding, controlled TOs, moving the ball) and get healthy for the playoffs. If they do that they are strong enough to beat anyone, anywhere.

Win or lose I would like to see them play their game

Defense all night long let that create the offense, hit those boards guys. And damn it perk show shaq just how much his time has passed.

by Warrior Spirit on Feb 24, 2010 6:05 PM EST up reply actions

Figured Pierce would be out due to the thumb if nothing else, but was holding onto the slimmest hope that it might somehow get better fast. Now the flu too! And Marquis! After the loss in Denver and the ugly win last night and now this news, is there anyone who believes we can still beat the Cavs tomorrow? Anyone? I’d like to think we could, but I’m already bracing for the ribbing I’ll take here in Ohio on Fri. I’d like to use the excuse that we were shorthanded; however, I didn’t want to hear that excuse when we beat LA. So it works both ways, I guess. Well, I’d rather it happen now than in the playoffs!

Let's just not show up

….forfeit the game, take a nice long vacation till Saturday, work on Nate’s game, relax.

I was thinking the same thing.

That ref was in the game long enough to sneeze on the ball and hand it to Quis.

Ugh, refs are always messin with us…

there is a 20 year history of Phil Jackson having his players play through illness and injuries and fatigue

with the express purpose of them understanding what it will take to win. Not saying he is right but its something to ponder. He is not one to cut minutes down for his stars anymore than Doc is.

Imho, some of these guys should play sick and injured. I realize that isn’t popular around here but again imho you are seeing what happens when players get babied.

by wahz on Feb 24, 2010 5:27 PM EST up reply actions

Huge mistake

It was extremely foolish when Phil did it with Kobe earlier this season. And it’s always a huge mistake, because…
(a) If the player is contagious, every other player is put at risk. Could anything be stupider?
(b) If the player is injured, most of the time playing through injury risks even greater injury. Not very clever.

It’s not “babying” to sit a player when he’s injured or sick, it’s smart management.

by DRJ1 on Feb 24, 2010 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

A Warrior must train under sick, injured and hard conditions

I agree with Phil on this one overall, though with how much rests on kg’s knee and pp in general I am on the side of rest, I want to see the Paul and kg we all know and Expect come playoff time and if we have to rest them now so be it

I realize I contradict myself on this one, but I see both sides of the arguement and will leave the decisions to the pros

by Warrior Spirit on Feb 24, 2010 6:00 PM EST up reply actions

I think you're probably kidding

…but just in case…. note that Paul had symptoms before yesterday’s game, and though the flu communicates quickly, it’s not instantaneous… a half-day is very unlikely.

by DRJ1 on Feb 24, 2010 5:58 PM EST up reply actions

SMDH

This is embarrassing lol. Rondo is the spokesperson for the flu vaccination. I guess his teammates didn’t see his commercials.

by jr_3421 on Feb 24, 2010 4:28 PM EST reply actions

Ugh... we really can't catch a break!

I’m OK with Pierce sitting, he really needs to rest, but without Marquis to defend on LeBron we won’t have any chance of winning so let’s hope Quisy plays!

by Drucci on Feb 24, 2010 5:14 PM EST reply actions

Well on the bright side...

Well, on the bright side, with Quis and Paul out, that means we’ll finally get to see Bill Walker get some meaningful burn……….uhhhhhhhh, oh wait never-mind.

Well, at least we can still throw JR out there and see what he is all about, given some meaningful amount of minutes, he can probably do a few things out there on the court, that’ll are respectable, except their wont be any thing to respect because he wont be out there because we traded him, and and Bill together 6’5 and 6’6, and we got back someone who is 5’9 on probably just the weekends.

I still cant believe we went through the deadline, and didn’t end up with a respectable wing or athletic big.

Ray Allen 6’5"
Tony Allen 6’4"
Scal 6’9" (he’s not a wing really, and he’ not really a 4/power forward……he’s just there, he’s like a “powerless-big small backward”)

This is going to be interesting.

by fanofgreen on Feb 24, 2010 5:16 PM EST reply actions

you nailed it with that one

I guess we will see lots of Scal, lots of Tony Allen, and a lot of pepto bismol

by hpantazo on Feb 24, 2010 5:34 PM EST up reply actions

If no Marquis and no Pierce

Tomorrow night could be very ugly. Oh well, I will be there anyway.

by vinnie on Feb 24, 2010 5:52 PM EST reply actions

Too bad there's tv

… or they could just not show up. Then Lebron could practice his dancing all night long.

by DRJ1 on Feb 24, 2010 6:00 PM EST reply actions

THAT STUPID OFFICIAL GAVE IT TO MARQUIS

That official who tried to play through the game and ended up leaving. He was suffering from the flu.

NOOOOOOOOOO

by Push on Feb 24, 2010 6:10 PM EST reply actions

Guarding Lebron

If Quis and Pierce are truly out, I think the best bet for guarding Lebron is to put Nate on him. Get Nate right up in his chest and go to work. Sure, Lebron can shoot over him but Lebron sometimes misses when shooting from the outside. And as an added bonus, on offense Nate will be past Lebron so quickly he won’t know what happened.

by asIwandered weakand weary on Feb 24, 2010 6:16 PM EST reply actions

when, they have Mo williams, Daniel Gibson, Delonte West, and even Anthony Parker??

I hope your joking about putting Nate on LeBron, and the fact that you think LeBron is going to guard Nate.

by fanofgreen on Feb 24, 2010 6:42 PM EST up reply actions

Well

Can’t beat the Cavaliers and LeRoid without our “Cav killer” Pierce…

by Scalablob990 on Feb 24, 2010 6:26 PM EST reply actions

Sad

It’s really sad that two of my favorite Celtics over the past 10 years— Delonte West and Leon Powe— are playing for the Cavs.

I despise LeBron and his cartoon body (can anyone say “steroids?”) and I despise big arsed Shaq, who got the rule book rewritten in his favor. But I simply can’t root against Delonte and Leon.

by Brickowski on Feb 24, 2010 6:51 PM EST reply actions

Classy. You just made winning a whole lot more satisfying.

by CavsLebronFan on Feb 24, 2010 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

If you do win it will be a tainted win

How’s Antawn working out so far? HAHAHAHAHAHA

by vinnie on Feb 24, 2010 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah i guess we should really start stressing. It took us 3 games to work out how to play with Jamison! And it took us 2 games to figure out how to play with Shaq at the start of the season, we must really suck. As for if we win it will be “tainted”, i personally disagree but if you think that i see your point. I guess we’ll have to win again next time to make it “untainted”.

by CavsLebronFan on Feb 24, 2010 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

It was definetly more than 2 games

Tho anyone with a brain, and apparently there were few, knew you didn’t suck

by Warrior Spirit on Feb 24, 2010 9:38 PM EST up reply actions

LeBron was on the Olympic team

which meant he had to go through Olympic drug testing

Not liking our chances right now.....

but the Cavs did just end a three game losing streak which might be an advantage. Also we might get a Marcus Landry sighting tomorrow.

Marcus Landry!

haha. seriously though, maybe he’ll get some burn.

by scurvmeister on Feb 24, 2010 8:49 PM EST reply actions

Better start checking the Buyout list

We’ll need an athletic wingman and a back-up point guard.

I find Ainge’s comments about Walker (and Giddens) disingenuous. With all the injuries, you’d have thought Rivers could have found some playing time for Walker. It’s not like the C’s were going for 72 wins. There have been way too many games when the team seemed disinterested. The way you get people’s attention is reduction in minutes and playing other guys. But perhaps Doc thought his team was doing just fine.

LETS GO TA!!!

he seems to do better with the starters on the floor…
i think he is our best defender and looking foward to him vs lebron

That might be a blowout in their favor if Pierce and Daniels are both out.
