Exactly.

Just a great, stand up individual.

Master Po

I’ve honestly been dreading this night for you since summer. Too bad I live so far away. I’ve got some prescription narcotics you could have used tomorrow night.

I hope Leon makes a 100% comeback.

by amenhotep04 on Feb 24, 2010 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

Think I miss him in green more than

Eddie
posey
Al
Billups
though maybe the same as J.Johnson (mofo never missed, the pitance amount he was in)

good luck Leon, may you have a full recovery and make Danny and Wyc regret it, except when you’re facing us in the playoffs!

by Warrior Spirit on Feb 24, 2010 5:24 PM EST up reply actions

me too Po....

I’m surprised by your subdued response though, I was expecting a pic of DA hanging in effigy.

When Perk was asked what he thought of Howard winning the gold medal this summer, he responded: "What’s his impression of me after I won a ring?"

by Green17 on Feb 24, 2010 5:13 PM EST up reply actions

to amenhotep and G17

at this point all I can do is wish this good man good things…..and if I only had DA’s cell number ….subdued would not describe that conversation….

viva la POwe!

If You Ever Do . . .

get Danny’s cell number, do me a favor and at least send me a copy of your message to him. I may make it the ring tone for the ex wife.

I’m pumped for Leon. I don’t expect him to play very well the rest of this season, but hopefully he’ll stay strong and be ready for next year.

For Saturday, is there anyone on the Nets who used to be a Celtic? I’m kind of liking this.

by amenhotep04 on Feb 24, 2010 5:45 PM EST up reply actions

Well, good for Leon. I'm happy for him!

May not be so good for us. Am I gonna feel as sad seeing him in a Cavs uniform as I did seeing Eddie in a Knicks uniform? Probably!

by 34green on Feb 24, 2010 4:37 PM EST reply actions

if Leon is in fact back, and it is not even March, Danny made a definite mistake not re-signing him for cheap money. If it was going to be the whole season, or most of the season, then it made sense. But to have him back, in time for him to be ready for the playoffs, would certainly help the Celtics. At the money it cost Cleveland, the risk also was very little. I know Leon is not a star, and he likely will never be. But he rebounds, he scores inside, and you can count on him at any time. Teams need stars, but they also need role players off the bench who understand their role – leon was one of those players. Would he be the difference between winning a title and not – no. but if healthy, he would help. no question about that.

by bigperm33 on Feb 24, 2010 4:41 PM EST reply actions

Think about what this team needs

Rebounding
post game
youth
athletism
energy
solid role playing

he’d make no difference at all!

by Warrior Spirit on Feb 24, 2010 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

And the last thing they needed was someone who was injured half the season

by lennz on Feb 25, 2010 8:13 AM EST up reply actions

Watching talent walk away.

Its sad seeing Joe Johnson, Chauncey Billups, Jeff green, Al Jefferson, James Posey, Eddie House, and even Leon Powe all once on our team, plus Doc doesnt have enough patience to play a rookie. I wish we could get an early first round pick this year just so i could feel the adrenaline and hope of having a great young player again… (But this doesnt really apply to Eddie).

Hooray

Loved Leon. Loved his attitude, courage, work ethic, and energy. I sorely wish that Ainge had kept him, even if he never played another game. That guy is the epitome of the un-spoiled athlete who has worked and earned everything. Hope to see him rebounding and doing the dirty work down low for years to come, even if it’s in another uniform.

by McHaleinthepost on Feb 24, 2010 4:50 PM EST reply actions

I thought for sure watching Sheldon Williams play earlier this season that he would play powe’s roll very well. But since the guy gets NO play time, I really hope the Celtics can up their rebounding and second chance points without a true backup center. Sheed and big baby all play power forward rolls predominantly, but it would be really nice to see Williams get back into the game more. Unless he is doing something terribly wrong in practice, I don’t understand why the guy has played like 1 game in the last 2 months.

by Brewnami on Feb 24, 2010 4:57 PM EST via mobile reply actions

god bless you leon. your heart is bigger than all the continents. i will hate to see you in cavalier colors. shelden was never the scorer leon is but doc should be stricken with shingles for neglecting him. and sheed should have piles for taking games off and hiding from the post like last game.

Headline!

You know, when I read the headline, and saw the photo of Powe in a C’s uniform, I thought for just a second that maybe Cleveland had bought him out — they do have rather a glut at the PF/C position — and he had returned to the C’s. Alas.

I think I speak for all of Celtic nation we all Miss u Leon!

I’d trade baby for Leon every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Leon is heart and soul. He gave the celtics a solid foundation to their bench. He worked hard played harder and was a straight thug in the paint. I want him back!

by 17green on Feb 24, 2010 5:42 PM EST reply actions

Leon is amazing but Baby has way more potential.

Leon doesn’t have any sort of isolation offensive moves and never did.

by Push on Feb 24, 2010 6:09 PM EST reply actions

Excuse me?

Leon is a better offensive player than BBD could ever dream of being. BBD is much better defensively, however.

The basketball gods are punishing the Celtics for being CHEAP and not resigning Leon. I hope he goes for 20 and 20 tomorrow night.

the likelihood they turn down an option for a player with the skills of leon for less that $1mil is essentially nil regardless of lebron….

I quite disagree

He is a loyal guy, tho I don’t see the scenario happening, I could see his loyalty and friendships playing a part in his return. Unfortunately he is and likely will remain a cav

Good guy? Great memories? Great story?

Don’t care, he’s a Cav. I’d spit on him from the stands if given the chance.

by lohaus#54 on Feb 24, 2010 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

It was hyperbole.

I have no love for any player on the Cavs, Lakers, Hawks, or Magic. Neither do any of the Celtics. Leon’s success now translates into Celtics failure. I respect him as a person, but hate him as a player and competitor. Just wait until he makes a questionable foul on KG, let’s see what side you are on then. Killer instinct or go home.

by stevenfuzz on Feb 24, 2010 7:26 PM EST up reply actions

I'm with you

I will never forget game 2 against LA in 08, he’s an excellent backup PF when healthy but…… he’s rarely healthy. Good on him and all and I hope that he has a long and relatively free NBA carrier but not at the C’s expense. 2 other players that we used to have are now on other teams (Joe Johnson and Chauncey Billups) and we are a combined 0-6 against those teams this season. We’re you rooting for them to have a good performance while they kick our ass?
Leons on the wrong side because of Danny and the C’s but don’t forget…. He’s still on the wrong side.

WOAH

For a minute there, I saw PJ Brown in that picture and thought he had made a miraculous return to go for banner 18.

You had me going for a second…

How disappointing.

by jimmehx on Feb 24, 2010 7:18 PM EST reply actions

welcome back show.

its players like leon and pj brown we are lacking on this team sheldon williams over even a gimpy powe was a bad move by danny boy i hope leon plays well if he plays tomorrow i miss his grity unselfish play the n.b.a. needs more leon powes good luck leon with the rest of your time in basketball and thanks for helping us win banner #17..

by lohaus#54 on Feb 24, 2010 7:21 PM EST reply actions

at the time the decision was made, it wasn't 'sheldon williams over even a gimpy powe'.

It was a healthy Shelden Williams over a Powe who would not be able to play at all for some 6 months or more.

If they had signed Powe and waited for him to heal, and not signed Shelden, then they would have been without a backup PF/C the whole time BBD was waiting for his hand to heal. That would have meant losing a hell of a lot more games last fall – and those wins are now very precious.

It was the right move by Ainge. Almost certainly not the move he wanted to make. But it was still the right move.

Sad

I’ll repost the words that somehow got deleted.

It’s really sad that two of my favorite Celtics over the past 10 years, Delonte West and Leon Powe, now play for the Cavs.

I hate the steroid-enhanced LeBron and big arsed Shaq, who had the rulebook rewritten in his favor. But I cannot root against Delonte and Leon. I hope Leon goes for 20-20 tomorrow night to impress upon Ainge that he made a cheesy moral decision.

by Brickowski on Feb 24, 2010 7:22 PM EST reply actions

Miss westy too, but I would love to see powe take off tonight, hope the rust bug does not bite him

Do you also hope that we lost the game?

by ejk3489 on Feb 24, 2010 9:54 PM EST up reply actions

I like Leon too...

….but I fail to believe that the decision, like many others, are made entirely by Danny Ainge. The Celtics owners (like the Dallas owner) certainly appear to be much more involved in the team decisions than other, more absentee owners.

In the same way, you can’t tell me that if DA wanted to trade Pierce, it would be entirely his decision. I doubt Wyc & Co. have no input on either stage. How is everyone so sure of what goes on behind the Celtics closed doors?

Yet someone has to be the “whipping boy” and it seems we’ve made it Danny Ainge.

So be it if it makes you feel better to use him as a target.

by DrD on Feb 24, 2010 11:29 PM EST up reply actions

Not really any chance Leon goes for 20/20 but ok

by lennz on Feb 25, 2010 8:16 AM EST up reply actions

Go Celtics! Go Leon!

My dream scenario is two things happen:
1) Celtics win
2) Leon absolutely man-handles Glen Davis and makes him cry.

Unfortunately if its his first game back he’s going to be very rusty.

Welcome back Mr. Powe

Welcome back to a tough player and a guy who did us proud (on and off the court) in his time as a Celtic. I am glad he’s been able to return to the NBA no matter who he plays for.

He’s a feel good story, and nothing wrong with that.

Show Some Class

At minimum they ought to put up some Powe highlignts on the jumbotron, as they did for House. I want to see his performance against the Lakers in the finals. I also want to see his last game as a Celtic, where he stayed in the game AFTER tearing his ACL.

Leon could play for me anytime..

Great, Powe is back

Now we have one more body to guard LeBron … Oh, no, he’s with them now.

Is this a Cavs blog?

Most of you people are giving Leon more love then you give any of the actual Celtic players, I know he used to be a C but all this Leon lovin is making me sick. Don’t forget, LEON POWE IS A CAV NOW. And as a Cav he can go get stuffed.

by Scal4theallstargame on Feb 24, 2010 10:10 PM EST reply actions

The Reasons we route for Leon

1) He’s overcome more adversity than most anyone on this blog
2) He gave the Celtic franchise and us fans EVERYTHING he had, and outperformed his skill level (can’t be said about many of our current players, i.e Wallace, Davis, etc)
3) He wanted to come back and play for the Celtics but the organization turned its back on him, which leads to….
4) Us fans feel a need to somehow makeup for ownership by not turning our backs on him.

by TomHamilton30 on Feb 24, 2010 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

He is a great guy

he deserves only the best. He not only added something amazing everytime he played for us, but the way he is such a stand-up guy and amazing family man sets an example that is sorely needed today in this world. I miss him on the team, his passion and his character will always be missed. They are lucky to have him. I wish him well.

I’ll just be frank, I didnt care for the wasy the C’s organziation treated Powe. That being said, I hope Powe does well and reenergizes his career, just not at our expense.

This is like feeling badly after breaking up with your girl.

Until you realize that the f*in you were getting wasn’t worth the f*in you were getting.

Get a grip. This pity party is getting worn out. Leon gave his best to the Celtics just like RA, PP KG, RR KP, etc.
An injury was sustained. He was not able to play. They made a business decision, not a moral one.

Kind of like the Patriots do every year with one player or another. Wanna hang Bill too?

Doubt he even plays, Cavs dont even need him

by lennz on Feb 25, 2010 8:18 AM EST reply actions

Saw this on another thread and it is a legitimate question. Is the Cavs roster full now with Leon’s return? If so, and they want Z back, possible Leon gets waived? If that happens, the C’s should not hesitate to sign him for the rest of the season. They would still have one roster spot left and not have broken the bank.

by JPV on Feb 25, 2010 9:09 AM EST up reply actions

Stop Dreaming

They’ll waive Coby Karl long before they waive Leon. Or Jawad Williams

by Brickowski on Feb 25, 2010 9:39 AM EST up reply actions

Stop it

Leon is a Cav now he did great things for the C’s ad that’s it. He is an enemy now and I don’t want to see him beat us. Act like a real Celtic fans.

I do not think wishing Powe well is conspiring with the enemy. Many on this blog have shown a lot of love to Delonte West, Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Eddie House, etc.. I am a die-hard, long time Celtics fan and have no problem hoping that Leon succeeds in the NBA, no matter who he plays for. When he is on the court playing against the Celtics, I will root hard against his team.
