Wrong/Right Way To Write

Doing it Wrong: Gerry Callahan says "Time for Ray to go" but offers no potential deals or even analysis of what the team needs or how it would be upgraded by dealing Ray Allen.

Doing it Right: Paul Flannery looks at a couple of scenarios/rumors and breaks each down in detail.

Which is why Flannery is one of my favorite journalists covering the C's and Gerry is, well, ...not.

Ray's 3 pt shot

The only problem I have with flannery’s column is saying Ray needs to find his 3 pt shot. I think when he gets good looks he’s still knocking them down with regularity. I just don’t believe he’s getting the same looks. KG has been hurt and he does command double teams in the post. Also, the ball movement has not been as good as in the past 2 years. I think, a lot of that is due to the injuries which has brought in a lot of inconcistency.

Watch and count the number of makes and takes that he gets from Rondo. Rondo’s assist to Ray for 3 pters are fantastic. He hits him with plenty of space right at chest level. I’ll bet his 3 pt % is close to 50 % but on feeds from other players it’s far below that. Many times he gets the ball as a bailout option. Here’ Ray see what you can do with 5 seconds left on the clock. I also, think with KG missing so many games that put Ray in a position where he tried to pick up the slack and maybe at his age wasn’t able to.

Just my observations and opinion.

Ray's Minutes

I firmly believe if Ray’s minutes were scaled back he would be hitting more threes. He plays better with fresher legs.

Agree

That’s another good point. He should be playing about 32-34 minutes and not 40+ but with the injuries he’s been forced to.

Best Deal for Ray

IMHO the best deal for Ray is the one that no one is talking about: Ray to Phoenix for Jason Richardson and Leandhrino Barbosa. It saves the Suns a bundle and puts them well under the cap next year, especially if Amare opts out..

And if they are serious about trying to win a championship this year, I would consider Ray to the Knicks for David Lee and Eddie Curry. Yes, I know Lee is just a 2 month rental and comes with no Bird rights, but he’s a very good player who rebounds, and rebounding is what they need if they expect to contend. Curry is useless, of course, but he does give them an 11 million dollar expiring deal to use as trade bait next year.

do not want

Neither of these make the team stronger this year.

Nice article by Flannery.

Refreshing, compared to so much crud that passes for sports ‘journalism’.

callahan is a hack

callahan is the most inauthentic journalist in boston. he will say anything controversial to get attention and advance his sad career. he’s just not smart enough to ever have anything genuinely thoughtful to say. how has the racist lasted this long?

Agreed.

Callahan is one of the most hateful, spite-filled people i know of.

I listen to WEEI in the evenings due to Celtics and Red Sox games. Every morning it only takes a few seconds of D&C before I have to turn it.

I can't stand Callahan

Especially the way he brings his politics on the radio air waves !

No One Does a Hatchet Job Better than Callahan

I remember his column on Vin Baker a few years back.

Jeff

Callahan should be very happy, you called him a journalist…

by Fastbreak1 on Feb 9, 2010 7:09 PM EST reply actions

ha!

I was thinking the same thing! Listening to Callahan is like being trapped in a conversation with a crotchety uncle — and NOT in a good way!

Callahan

He seems to suffer from the dreaded short-man syndrome. Self-absorbed, insecure, loud and generally loathsome.

Thats because Flannery is a beat writer/blogger and Callahan is a journalist and media personality. I disagree with a lot of what Gerry says but his article is very accurate, as they usually are.

Callahan's article doesn't SAY anything

that wasn’t old news or conjecture.

How is that ‘journalism’?
