Bill Walker/what happens to Big 3

This is really starting to annoy me on how good Bill Walker is playing for his new team!!!Once again last night he showed how good he can be if he got minutes scoring 21 leading the Knicks against the Grizzles.Do we have any chance of getting him back are is he gone for good.I hope not because hes the answer that we have been looking for. Someone very young  and athletic and we had him and blew it AGAIN.!!

On to the big three now!!What do we do with them,we all know all 3 wont be together again next year.Do we trade for future 1st rounders,or young players whats, going to happen!! Comment what you think

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

He was quiet for a few games, but last night:

33 minutes, 8-13 FGs, 2-4 3pts, 4 assists, 2 steals.

I’d say the kid can play. He never got a chance here. Not once.

Somehow I think ny might actually want to hold on to him

Not likely coming back dude, get used to it.
Should have had way more minutes at the end of last year playing with half a squad, and a bit more scrap this year too. But he didn’t and they didn’t like his defense.
Maybe time to get over it now

The kid has talent ....

How much ?

We are going to find out since he is getting playing time now that he never got here in Boston.

Walkers young legs, speed and athleticism is exactly what the C’s needed this year and will need in the future.
He can defend and score and would of been great to have on the roster to develop.

I hope getting rid of him does not come back to haunt us, but I am afraid it just might.

A lot of guys put up numbers in D'Antoni's system

I wouldn’t put much/any stock into garbage minutes on a Knicks team where he’s not asked to play any defense.

bill walker before last night combined for 20 points over the previous 5 games

and he hasnt been playing in the knicks games where they have been close.. he played the entire fourth quarter last night and was jacking shots big baby style at the end of the game.. again when u have the green light at all times ur goin score some points every once in a while… he has NOT been playing good.. i live in ny and watch most knick games unfortunately and he has not been impressive u cant just look at stat lines…

he would be no help to this celtic team either as he still refuses to play defense at any time

yea CavsFaninLV,wat u sayin

(if he was any good he would be in Boston!!!)
They sure done a good job in keeping Joe Johnson here and trusting his ability until it was to late.

We're all talking in "what if" mode

precisely because Doc never played him. If we had seen him enough to get a better grasp of his skillsets then either:

1) we knew he wasn’t that good so no posts about missing and regretting him or
2) we would know that he is that good, thus he would not have been part of the trade.

Either way, we’ll never know and that sucks. No one laments losing Miki Moore.

by jdn on Mar 13, 2010 4:40 PM EST reply actions

It's not that I regret the trade

I certainly do NOT. Love Nate. But if you identify value BEFORE you trade it away, you tend to get better deals. Surely you agree with that.

by DRJ1 on Mar 13, 2010 5:47 PM EST reply actions

Sure, we can get him back. We can tell the Knicks we need Walker; that we made a nos usch a good trade, to put it mildly, him and we want him back. We are the Celtics and that should be enough. But, we dont give Nate back cause that part of the trade stannds. I mean, what is the purpose of this blog? Nobody owes us anything;. A trade is not a trade if we dont like it; is that it? And once we get him back, cause we are the Celtics, he will be back on the bench cause Doc wont play him. lololololololololololol

by Reyquila on Mar 13, 2010 5:50 PM EST reply actions

Let's see if Bill Walker is getting 10+ minutes for any team in three years

I’m willing to bet he ends up riding the bench next year for NY or someone else. The only place he’ll play is some trainwreck situation. Like NY this year.

by TheOutletPass on Mar 13, 2010 7:05 PM EST reply actions

That would be a pretty silly bet

Best we can say now is that he hasn’t PROVEN anything yet, but he looks promising based on early results. And that while he was in Boston, we got NO results on him, nada.

(To m: Saying “they saw him in practice” is meaningless… because (a) you don’t know that, you’re only guessing, and (b) the WHOLE POINT is that they misunderstood what they had on their hands… INCLUDING what they saw in practice.)

Bill Walker has alot of upside

He is young and raw and can only get better with playing time. To bad the C’s never gave him minutes and a chance to develop.

Its wrong to give up on young players as fast as the C’s did since it takes several years for young players to develop (ala Perk..Rondo etc.).

Perk and Rondo looked horrible in their first year and we did not give up on them, but instead stuck with them and gave them minutes in following years which helped them develop into good solid NBA players.

The same can (and will probably) happen with Walker if we just give him a chance.

And tonight, March 13, our friend Billy once again

…led all scorers, with 23 points in 25 minutes, against the Mavs, no less.

9-12 shooting overall, 5-8 3pt. That’s two games in a row. And he did something similar a couple of weeks ago. I’d say the kid is building a strong case that he’s for real. The more for real he becomes, the more it becomes evident that Doc and Danny screwed up evaluating him.

Over the past 8 games...

Bill Walker averages in the past 8 games:

13.5 ppg
0.5 to
28.5 mpg

Lets remember that he is a rookie and he isn’t used to seeing any minutes on the floor. His numbers are bound to improve from here on out. Jonny Flynn averages 13.6 ppg in 29 mpg — Just for comparison.

Jbuell, this is like the beginning of the season for a rookie. Not many rookies start off consistently producing 20 points a game. What is important is that Walker has shown what he is CAPABLE of producing. Here are some stats for you:

During Walker’s 4 games sub 20 points, he took:

1 FG, 5 FG, 4 FG, 6 FG

During his 20+ point games, he took:

12 FG, 13 FG, 13 FG, 14 FG

It is clear that Walker is still nervous to take shots when the game is close because he would rather concede the ball to the other players on the team. He is a rookie and this is his first opportunity with real minutes. Lets face it, the kid is nervous with the ball in his hands when the game matters… because he has NEVER been in that type of situation before in the NBA. He can’t seem to handle the pressure of clutch situations yet, and he still has not become confident enough to get into a groove. Give the kid some time, he has only played 9 legitimate games so far. Stop hating on the guy so quickly.

hes not a rookie first off...

and i have never gotten into these debates to hate but the never ending bill walker is the next joe johnson talk is sickening.. bill walker wasnt a big time college player like johnson and is still living off a high school basketball reputation that happened before he blew his knee out….

and the knicks are also playing their youngest rookie in douglas over walker.. so what does that say about him?

by jbuell719 on Mar 14, 2010 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions

We do not know if he's the next Joe J

He might be. There’s nothing we’ve seen that proves, or even indicates strongly, that he is not. We must wait and see.

by DRJ1 on Mar 14, 2010 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions

he hasnt shown anything close to joe going back to him at k'state..

he is not the same player since he hurt his knee in high school

by jbuell719 on Mar 14, 2010 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know about his college career

Just know he’s showing signs now of talent now. But actually… we don’t really care, right?

Good work

Nice analysis. Thank you.

Good points avirgile....

Walker is a rookie and has yet to develop at his full potential.

He needs time to prove himself which us Walker supporters want to give him and which many of his non supporters for some reason do not want to give him.

by fordescort on Mar 14, 2010 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions

he is gone just like Joe Johnson, Chaucey Billups, Big Al and countless others

Red Aurbach had a system of developing and keeping players. the new system is develop players and trade for burnt out losers. SCREW YOU DANNNY!!!!!!!!! WE NEED MCHALE AS COACH OR SOMEONE WHO WILL PUT DANNY IN CHECK!!!

by Leprachaun in da hood on Mar 15, 2010 2:54 AM EDT reply actions

hello jbuell719 how do i explain this to you?

We traded Joe Johnson for Rodney Rogers and Tony Delk. Chauncey Billups went for even less compensation a player who i cannot remember. Big Al is going to be in the NBA for a long time coming and KG is close to retirement having logged almost more minutes on the court than any other active player. I feel badly that i have to speak to you like you are in 3rd grade but then again if you are a fourth grader you are more than welcome to post as much as you want and i encourage kids to follow the game with the same love that i did as a kid. LOL

I hope Bill Walker drops 40 points tonight on St. Pattys Day

Then Danny will have some real explaining to do and hopefully Doc Rivers will be run out of town for good!
