Is This Our Season? Nah, can't be
http://www.redsarmy.com/home/2010/03/is-this-our-season.html
Most of the posts and comments on this blog about the Cs' problems seem correct. The complaints and predictions sound pretty reasonable in light of all that's happened... the Griz game in particular, but also the Nets, the Cavs, and all the rest of it.
Are the Cs just waiting for the playoffs? Read the linked article above. When you get to the break ("===="), decide if what you just read sounded like what's going to happen to the Cs this season. Is it possible? What, it's not even possible?
Ok... but seems to me we've heard that before......
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Its a decent possibility...
Ive thought alot about this. Are they just waiting for the playoffs… Well, like evreyone else Ill say I hope so but I think Ive got a bit of reason to go with that hope. First off, the big 3, with the exception of Allen occasionally, average between 24 and 30 mins a game. Ive got to believe that expands by ten mins apiece in the playoffs and how could that almost extra quarter apiece from your future h.o.fs not make a significant difference? Secondly, they play with a ten man rotation right now which while it gives everyones legs plenty of rest now, it doesnt really allow people to get in as good a rythym as they can and allows a couple guys who might normally get mins or are ice cold to stay on the court. I like Daniels and T.A., but does anyone really see them playing significant minutes when it counts? (maybe Daniels if he can get his groove back), and by limiting the number of guys off the bench you keep a few of your starters on the floor at all times and lets face it, theres a reason theyre the starters. I see Nate, Finley (great rifleman addition. added what we lost in Eddie) and Davis playin the lions share off the bench, when hopefully as I wrote about Sheed elsewhere here, will keep him on the pine. Finally, you have KG, Ray and the Truth. These men, while old, all have one very important thing in common. PRIDE which is based in true heart. There is now way possible I can see these three future h.o.fs accepting anything but 120% effort come playoff time. I believe them accepting anything but that 120% when it counts would signal the end of this 3 and they know it. It would underline a far greater problem for the leaders of this team. But all that said, theres reason to have hope I think. Lets just pray its for real. GO CELTS!!!!!

Bless you DRJ
I was actually going to post a link for this article, but someone already did, so thanks. I just wanted to add.. Doc Rivers is so right…even in yesterdays loss he said he saw some really good things..and I watched the whole game…we stuck with it for quite long, we just missed shots and made some uneccessary turnovers as soon as we tied the game, thats where the 08 celtics would have picked it up and gone on a run…most probably through a eddie 3 (remember those days?) anyways my point is, this team still has it, its just getting beaten down right now, that even when its doing the right things, when a lil somethin goes wrong they start to NOT believe, even at the end of the fourth, they started knocking down shots..only if they hadnt stopped defending before that, they could have made one of those famous runs.. This team can do it, it needs, really NEEDS to believe in itself..and we as fans need to back them up instead of speculating and increasing doubt. Lets all have heart, one more time #18, they can do it. I believe.
It happened once before with two of the greatest players in Celtics History on the team
It’s not going to happen this year.
Aren't KG, Paul and Ray
…three of the greatest players in Celtics history?
Personally I"m kinda sick of the whole argument
One side: There’s still a chance they could win the Championship!!!
Other side: Stick a fork in them. They won’t make it past the first round!
Me: I just want to watch them play and enjoy good basketball. They’ve been awfully unlucky with peripherals this year (injuries injuries injuries). But they are getting healthy and getting things together and when this team plays well, its beautiful basketball.
Can we just sit back and watch how far they can go?
There's a huge philosophical, logical and even moral difference between those two sides
One side says “they CANNOT win, forget about it.”. The other side says “they CAN win, let’s support and see.” In most arguments, both sides have status, both sides have a case through which they can claim correctness. No so in this case.
The negative side actually has NO CLAIM on correctness here, NO CASE whatsoever. Why? Because it’s patently false – demonstrably so – to say that “they have no chance.” First, because nothing is impossible, the obvious, easy (but still applicable) argument. Second, because there is no way they could know that. The negativists can believe it, if they choose, but to state it as fact is clearly wrong, because it’s IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW. Conversely, the positive side saying “they can win it all” is clearly correct. Of course they CAN win it all. Any team entering the playoffs can win it all, to say nothing of a team as talent-laden as the Cs.
So you see, the two sides are not equal in this “argument.” So much so, that it doesn’t actually qualify as an “argument.” One side is babbling illogical nonsense – which is immoral in some sense – the other is speaking truth.
NOW let’s sit back and watch them fight the good fight.
and 1
There’s a huge difference between saying “they can win” and “they will win”. Nobody on this site ever says the latter.
When anyone here proclaims that “the celtics won’t win it all”, it is opposite and equivalent to saying “the celtics are going to win it all”…..not the conditional “the celtics can win it all”.
Both of the declarative statements are based on speculation and NO fact whatsoever…maybe good speculation, but no fact regardless. In saying the celtics CAN win, the possibility is left open, and it is most certainly a fact that they CAN win.
Man, I feel like an english teacher here.
It’s perfectly fine if people say they don’t think the C’s will win it all. Some nights, I’d agree with them. They cannot tell me with all certainty that they WILL NOT…equally however, I definitely won’t believe somebody who tells me they WILL win it all. “How do you know?”…I’d ask.
Anyways, after this 28 pt drubbing of the pistons, I am as confused as ever about this Celtics team. Here’s where I’m at. My brain is giving me mixed signals…I have the loss against the Cavs in mind, but I’m also seeing this team play the best brand of ball-movement basketball since their November game against Utah (in which they pulled off that famous 4 pass sequence which has been on NBA commercials this year). In other words I see the talent and the offensive creativity right in front of my face….but I need to see it be proven against a good team.
However, my heart tells me that these guys really will sneak right under the radar and really cause havoc in the playoffs. I think the vets are old, but very savvy. They have been saving their energy and allowing their bench to shine. Unfortunately, the bench sucked against the Cavs, but the TRUST was there. IF the bench were to have a similar performance against the Cavs in April as they did this past night against the Pistons (or something even remotely close), they will wallop the cavs. Think about it. The C’s lost by 11, but the bench was outscored by what, like 15 pts? Anderson Varejao was a raving maniac outscoring the entire C’s bench by 2 with 17 of his own. THIS will not happen again. The bench WILL likely save the starters again in the playoffs, and with some consistency.
Even more so, Paul Pierce and KG are quickly gaining ground again…just look at this past night’s numbers…nearly equal amonst the Big 3. THAT is a sign that things are again getting back to equilibrium. It doesn’t matter whether it’s against the Pistons. When the Big 3 score relatively equally amongst eachother, and play according to their 2008 ratios (ratios compared to one another in scoring/rebounding/assists…i.e 18, 16, 14 Paul Ray KG scoring for example) the offense rarely stagnates. Get rid of those stagnations, and you’ve got yourself a competitive game in the playoffs.
The point is, I think a true meeting of talents on this team, from the old vets (big 3, Sheed, Finley), to the up and coming stars and leaders (Rondo/Perk), and the hard-working (baby) and charismatic (nate) bench, is about to happen! It takes a couple of weeks for it to happen, and the progress is very much “2 steps forward, one step back” in nature, but it IS happening right in front of our eyes. Just wait
Ashtray Bouquet
Thumbs up
Yeah, Rondo’s doing a beautiful job, he’s becoming one of those players who never makes mistakes, he’s always there for the team.
However, I’m loving the show that Paul’s putting right now.
