I was thinking the exact same thing….

That sort of comment

demonstrates a considerable lack of understanding of the value of the D-League.

Yeh Steve your right!

Walker played in the D-League whilst at the Celtics, and look how much better he is now…..PLAYING FOR THE KNICKS!

I was never...

….as impressed with Walker as a lot of people around here are, and my views have not changed because he managed to score a lot with the Knicks. I wasn’t much impressed with him when he was up in Maine; the Celtics assignee I’ve been most impressed with so far this season was Giddens.

I’ll be interested to see Landry tomorrow.

Doc just ain't a yougster lover eh.

And with the coming of Finley, Landry won’t have any room in a veteran team, so maybe that’s the reason they sent him down there.

Most likely..

If we wasn’t going to get a lot of minutes, it may have been better to keep him in game shape even if it is in the D league….maybe he can get some practice playing against Hasheem Thabeet.

by wisco87 on Mar 6, 2010 11:50 AM EST up reply actions

It's not about minutes

Only 12 players can dress for games, and the C’s now have 14 players. So Landry “not playing” has zero to do with Doc not playing him, he can’t get into the game in street clothes, so why not have him go somewhere where he can actually put on a uniform?

Seems like many still don’t understand the rules about having a min. of 13 and a max of 15 on an NBA roster, but only 12 can dress for games.

Seems like a good move.

He wasn’t getting any PT anyway.

i agree

let the kid go down to the red claws, stay warm and in the event we need him in a desparation.

Well, of course

…of COURSE they’d rather play a 38-year-old than a rookie! Must be comforting for Doc to be so predictable.

by DRJ1 on Mar 6, 2010 2:55 PM EST reply actions

The 38 yr old may not play either

Before Finley, Landry was the 13th man, on a team that only has 12 players in uniform. No team plays more than 10 players on a regular basis, so every team that has 15 players will always have 5 players that NEVER play, not just the Celtics. Every single NBA roster has guys that never see the court, why should the C’s be any different?

by KJ33 on Mar 7, 2010 12:35 AM EST up reply actions

I think he will play, here and there

But may also have his share of Inactives… otherwise, somebody else has to be.

There are only 2 guys to choose from besides Fin: Scal and Shelden. Of those 3, my vote’s for Scal (to not dress), on most nights. Don’t think it makes a whole lot of difference, though.

Marcus Landry

The latest rookie to be buried in the Rookie Graveyard.

by DRJ1 on Mar 6, 2010 3:12 PM EST reply actions

Boohoo

Rookies are inconsistent and usually make lots of bad decisions and turn overs.
Not to mention that the C’s don’t need to be teaching a rookie all their sets during
the last month of the season.
Integrating the elderly Finley will be enough of a project. Hopefully it won’t mess up
their slow return to having chemistry chemistry which would definitely happen if
Landry were to get some minutes.

I'm happy

to have them assign Landry; he was basically a toss-in to the trade and not going to get a lot of time anyway. But, I think the Celtics could benefit by calling up D-Leaguers more rather than signing guys like Finley. There are some NBA-quality players looking for an NBA team down there, and bringing a young guy up could shake the Celts loose.

I’ll have a report on Landry after the Claws game tomorrow as part of my recap at CelticsTown.com

by JFoss on Mar 6, 2010 9:52 PM EST reply actions

he could be just as good as his brother, problem is we wont know until he get traded because thats the only way he’ll get playing time.

good for evaluation

its the only way the celts can eval him in game situation. he probably doesn’t even see the practice floor with doc.
