Around SBN: Celtics Vs. Heat Game 1: Game Time, TV Schedule And More

The Truth Strikes Again

Paul Pierce drills a stepback jump shot as the clock expires, and the Celtics take Game 3.

  • Final score: 100-98, Celtics.
  • Dwyane Wade was helped off the floor with 14 seconds left after landing on Ray Allen's foot off a missed three-point field goal attempt. He immediately grabbed at his left knee, and stayed down for a number of minutes, before being helped off by Jamaal Magloire and a member of the Heat's staff. Erik Spoelstra said afterward that Wade was dealing with cramping in his calf and should be ready for Game 4 on Sunday. He's getting fluids now.
  • Overall, the starters brought it tonight, particularly on the offensive end.
  • Pierce finished with 32 points and 8 rebounds.
  • 25 points for Ray Allen.
17 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals for Rajon Rondo
  • 16 points and 6 rebounds for Kevin Garnett
  • No points, but 12 rebounds and 2 blocks for Kendrick Perkins
The Celtics can end this series on Sunday.

Don’t know what happened to Perk on the offensive side of the floor. It’s like he’s got Michael Beasley no-confidence disease.

Team defense was great once again.

Pierce was a beast and of course gets the game ball.

The C’s really are clicking in these playoffs and do not look at all like the team we saw struggle at times in the regular season which is great to see.

The Truth Hurts!

Great game and way to hang in there against adversity. Some of the calls were dubious at best(not biased necessarily but leaning home) like that breakaway they wiped out when Wade ran up Rondo’s back and maybe Ray’s 3 they took away.

Miami played tough especially Wade, Beasley and the bench. Doc gave the starters heavy minutes for which I can’t fault him. They can play fewer minutes Sunday.

Win or lose, I had to love the execution, the ball movement and the defense except when Miami had great movement.

You can’t ask more from either side than to have your “closer” get the last shot. Wade’s missed and Paul’s swished.

Oh, one last thing, is Rondo made out of granite? What’s up with people bouncing off him and getting foul calls?

I know...

my favorite was the one where a guy running at full speed behind rondo on the fast break initiates contact and somehow flops backwards???? How do you fall backwards when running forwards? How do you call that?

The refs were very fair to the C’s in the first 2 games… tonight they seemed a little to eager to compensate Miami

Got home from work tired as ever sore too… with that buzzer beater it was like pierce was saying to me “This one is for you big guy” lol
it stings to see rondo get floored so such, it can’t be very healthy! doc needs to cut that out before rondo gets really hurt.
Wade is a warrior, the only reason he is playing so hard is to try to get a big time FA to south beach, if he was leaving the heat would not even be in the playoffs.

Great finish

… and great job by the Celtics in not wilting. Despite Miami’s problems in the first two games, this one was on its turf, in front of its own fans — could’ve been a letdown game for the C’s, but they only bent, didn’t break.

In order for the celtics to win in the second round against the cavs, the bench have to play well.. marquis daniels, rasheed wallace, nate robinson, and michael finley..if they do not play well, i guess they cannot have their way to the 2010 NBA CHAMPIONS.. but i trust in this team..THE BOSTON CELTICS, THE 2010 NBA CHAMPIONS. .

Late to the Party but still celebrating

My wife came hme with four minutes left and I had to leave the DVR paused. Managed not to see (read check) the score when I got back to the game and finally got to watch it out. A number of the calls were bad both ways, but the ones against the C’s were real momentum killers (especially the fast break collision—behind the play when Wade had no play on the ball). Really nice to see them pull this one out. Trying real hard not to look ahead to Cleveland. Just hoping Chicago tires them out some more.

by tance on Apr 23, 2010 10:51 PM EDT reply actions

pp did it and thank god he was smart enough to start shooting jumpers as the drives were slowing down. tony did not get much time but played excellent d and made 2 nice shots. perk has regressed on offense, but held the fort on d and the boards which meant a lot. just keep the ball away from him on o. doc really put a lot of trust on his starting 5 ant they showed up. hope wade is ok. even tho a bit of a whiner, he is one great basketball player.

I'm just going to put here what I put in the comments of the preview to the game

“I have a feeling the league desperately wants us to lose this one based on the fact that LA and CLE both lost their game 3’s…. can’t have the C’s come out looking better then Kobe and Lebron right?

Fortunately for us, the refs may not even able to save Miami from themselves."

by incoherent. on Apr 23, 2010 11:14 PM EDT reply actions

Not me.

More likely, Salvatore simply had money on the spread and had to have the Heat be at least close.

The run of ‘bizarre’ calls & non-calls seemed to happen right after we zoomed out to the 9 pt lead. A few quick calls and it tightened up nicely.

Great game. Great finish.

Pierce and Ray were the obvious studs.
Rondo and KG also played well.
Perk – not a great game.

Our bench did not contribute much, but bizarrely, they all have great +/- numbers. The starters ended up mostly negative, mainly because of the above mentioned run of ref decisions that lead to Miami making that run from 9 down.

Great gutty win by the C's

That last shot by Pierce was textbook perfect. The refs were really letting things go late. Perk & Rondo got hammered late in the game, no calls.

I hope Wade goes to a west coast team. I’m seen enough of him scoring at will on the C’s.

Still not over yet. I expect Wade to go all out in Game 4. Unless he’s injured and can’t play. Then it will be over.

Doc is quietly making a statement in the post-season....and it`s working to "perfection"

Comparing the disappointing regular season to this 3-0 post-season :

Rasheed Wallace`s playing time has been REDUCED by 40%
BBD`s playing time has been INCREASED by 40%

The results speak for themselves!

Wallace played only 10 minutes last night...he averaged 23 minutes in the regular season

The only Miami game he played anywhere near 23 minutes…was during the Game 2 blowout, he played 21 minutes.

He average over 8 FGA during the season…he`s taken 8 FGA in these last 3 games.

Bottom line : Doc has seen enough of Sheed…and won`t trust him in the playoffs.
