April Madness?
There's not much more we can learn from this season. The Celtics started selling playoff tickets on Monday. We have just a week's worth of games (4) left. There will be ample time to preview our first round matchup, but why not take a broader picture perspective for a moment first.
I was listening to The Basketball Jones the other day and they made a comment that the Eastern Conference series are going to be boring and predictable while the West has many more potential good matchups. I concur on the West. If you look at the standings, the current 8 seed is just 3.5 games out of 2nd place. However, I don't think you can count out the East in terms of drama just yet.
Taking into account that things could change, lets look again at the first round in the proverbial hypothetical state of "If the playoffs started tomorrow."
Cavs vs. Raptors - Yeah, this is a sweep. Moving on.
Magic vs. Bobcats - I know that Orlando is strong, but don't count out the Bobcats in this series. Jackson and Wallace is a nice 1-2 punch and Larry Brown will have them ready to play.
Hawks vs. Heat - Miami is riding an 8 game winning streak and Joe Johnson just sprained his thumb. I'm sure he'll be fine for the playoffs, but ya never know.
Celtics vs. Bucks - I hate to admit it, but even though the Bucks are probably the best matchup for us (without Bogut), you just don't know what to expect from this Boston team. I wish I could say that the Celtics are better than their record, but as Parcells would say, "you are what your record says you are" and right now our record says that we are inconsistent.

I can't agree
I think you are loking at four series that won’t go past five games. As you said, a sweep for the Cavs unless James get hurt (fingers crossed). For Charlottte, I’ve got two words – Dwight Howard. And when the double teams inevitably come, Orlando’s shooters will have a field day. The Bucks without Bogut – just can’t see it. And Miami is just a one-man team. Unless Wade starts getting even more star calls than he does already, they’ve got no chance.
And speaking of star calls and other assorted referee misdeeds, this has been the worst year in memory for the zebras. The variance in how games are called is alarming from ref to ref. And that no call at the end of the Denver – OKC game last night was just criminal. Saying they blew the call isn’t going to cut it. The refs in that game should feel the pain in the pocket like the players and coaches do when they speak out. Anything less from the NBA shows they just don’t care about holding referees accountable.
The NBA DOESN'T care about holding the refs accountable
Which has been proven consistently since the dynasty, when the C’s got every call.
The complain and get fined concept says it all…

The Basketball Jones guys are excellent
And yeah – the west is where the fun is this year. I’m gonna watch pretty much every west first round series.
Agree - 7 teams within 3 games with 4 to play
Wouldn’t it be funny if the Lakers got the Thunder?

Aside from the Raptors, the three other teams (Heat, Bucks, Bobcats) can actually pull an upset. With Miami, you just can’t count out Wade’s determination. He can carry a team on his back all season long, and even into a championship. With the Bucks, they are like the Rockets of the East, scrappy and hustle-filled players who do all the little things with a good defense as well. That’s something that will actually matter in the playoffs. The Bobcats are a top-defensive team, and this is the same team that beat Orlando in their home court a few months ago without their all-star (Gerald Wallace). Maybe it won’t be as interesting as the West, but it’s still better than having other east teams in there.
What up C’s fans? Magic fan chiming in. I agree TOR will be 4-and-done, and that MIA will give ATL fits in the first round. CHA is a top defensive team, but ORL is the top defensive team, and that win CHA got a couple months back was their first agaisnt ORL in 7 games. I’m not concerned, they may get a game or two, but ORL owns that sereis. MIL might give you guys a fight, judging from your last two 1st rd. opponents, and they’ve got Salmons who did some damage in that Bulls series, but I don’t see them getting anywhere past BOS without Bogut in the middle, and a rookie point guard leading them. Won’t happen. Good luck to you guys.
Toronto and Chicago tied in the loss column
But the Bulls are 6-4 in the last 10, Raps 4-6 and Boshless.
Bulls in, Raptors out.
