Things stink right now, but don't give up.  We've still got this.

I'm not sure if it quite fits, but in trying to think of what we need to win Game 6, I was reminded of one of my favorite quotations, by Teddy Roosevelt:

I can’t wait until it is some 20,005 vs. 8 on the floor. That was not fun tonight. At the end of the game we should be cheering for a win, not praying for our players’ safety. What a dreadful thing to watch.

Game 4

I still think we will win this series, but I believe the Championship was lost in Game 4. The C’s will look back at that awful last possession when they could have won it in regulation with regret. You win that, you have 9 days rest, no injuries, etc. As crazy is it sounds, the loss of Big Baby may be the difference against the Lakers. He has been huge for us in the playoffs. With Perk’s gimpy knees and Sheed’s trick or treat games, he has been a really consistent big for us. I hope I am just being reactionary, but I think our best shot at a title left when we lost game 4.

Game 4 screwed them out of a title. Should be resting right now. Doc should have called a time out and set up something for Ray. He had the hot hand. Now it’s a domino effect.

That is exactly what I was thinking...

You could tell Pierce was wore slap out. Ray had just hit a 3 and was just getting started (as shown in the OT hitting 2 more big shots).

Rondo's back

How hurt is Rondo? It looked like he was wearing something for his back under his uniform. It was noticeable when he got up from the floor in the first half.

I'm inclined to agree...

that Rondo’s quietly nursing some injury or injuries. It happens all the time with this (and most other) team(s).

His motor is running but the fast break attack is a bit off and he is missing some of the lay ups he was making to start the series as well.

Right now with the injuries and a potential Perk suspension looming, I am having a hard time believing. I also believe that Rondo is playing hurt, as he was totally outplayed again tonight by Nelson.

what pisses me off the most though

is how they allow dwight howard to contiue playing in the manner he is doing. Throwing elbows and throwing players to the ground after the whistle. It’s unacceptable and unbelievable that the refs don’t do anything. I mean the guy had one personal foul in 40 plus minutes. That’s unbelievable.

People say we are physical but...

there is a difference between bodying up and stuff on players bodies and the way Howard has been playing. When the whistle goes off and there is no chance for the ball to still go in, we stop play and make sure to not continue where someone might get hurt. DH just throws his huge body (and elbows) around after the whistle and doesn’t care what happens dropping down on people. They way he came down and continued to drop Pierce after the ball was clearly not going in should be unacceptable. The refs need to control someone’s continuing intentions that more than the pure physical play…

I'm All For Tough Basketball but...

yesterday was just brutal in my opinion. Two guys in one game with a concussion. Now, I have been saying for quite a while that basketball isn’t the same and the refs control the games too much these days. Every little thing is a foul. Every attitude is a tech. Every hard foul is a flagrant. They baby these players too much and won’t let them just play the game anymore.

However, this was not a tough playing game. This was a game where the refs allowed players to physically batter another team. If they were going to do that on one end of the court, surely extend the favor the other way. However, we all know why this game was called tight in favor of Orlando. To extend the series. They do it all the time.

They're Screwed

Let’s face it – this is going to be a humiliating 3-0 lead blown and we’re never going to the hear the end of it. Perk is out, Rondo is hurt and KG has lost his mojo. Apparently Wallace tweaked his back, Baby has a concussion and the C’s have no other bigs off the bench aside from Shelden Williams. No way they’re winning Game 6. They’ll be too rattled to win Game 7 and the humiliation is on. Just being real here.

But on the replay, you can cleary see “Elbow” elbow Baby in the face and give him a dang concussion. And no foul called. Elbow is a danger because he is dirty and a cheater. He cannot win without playing dirty. That’s what scares me..he is really out to hurt our team in permanent ways. That’s not basketball; that’s cheating.
The announcer, when referring to Baby’s concussion kept saying Howard’s inadvertant elbow. BS! It was clearly on purpose; all the elbows from him are. It’s his method.

…on another blog, but it’s hard to believe in something when Murphy’s Law seems to apply to everything that concerns the sports teams I follow. The stink of it is I moved out east right after the Celtics won in ‘08, and it was then that I adopted them as my favorite NBA team. Sorry guys; I think I cursed them. I’m tellin’ ya though, it would be nice to have just one winner. The rest of my teams are from my home state of Minnesota, so I don’t have to explain how disappointing things have been there.

But I would like to know how many elbows to the head, and how many concussions, and how many injured opponents before someone decides Howard’s “elbow” is not an “inadvertent” foul?

I have more questions, too, about the refs, but I have had a beer and that is all it takes to make me question my own judgement, so I will hold off on those.

I know that this is incredibly early...

…but what needs to be done in the off-season? I’m not saying that the season is over, but now matter what happens, I’m truly concerned about what Ainge plans to do with this aging roster in the summertime. I don’t think the same old thing will do. What do you guys think?

This is why I don't watch much anymore....

I choose to just tune into the playoffs and the finals. Basketball isn’t the same as it was even ten years ago. Far too many whistles and this is how the NBA takes FULL control of the game. Through overly tight officiating.

We got pounded tonight 43 to 26 on the boards and like usually it lead to being pounded in the score.

With the percentage Orlando shot they still had 10 offensive rebounds.
 we need to want the possesion more than them if we want to limit their treys.

The Bruins over-acheived because they were pumped to get the 2nd overall pick as well as there own decent 1st round pick. They werent ready for the next stage just yet .

I dont think they even had a scorer in the top 50 in points this yr and made the playoffs because every team with a pulse makes it , so there is no comparison to the Celtics

This is why I hate the NBA/WWE

I love the sport of basketball but I can’t stand the NBA and the politics that come with it. This series should have been over in game four. Now I know that the Celtics didn’t really “bring it” in that game but its not like the Magic “took” that game. I still feel that in an ugly game 4 we were still better than the Magic and this series should be over. But now look where we are. Because the NBA is about extending series to avoid sweeps The C’s instead of enjoying a well deserved rest are now in a dogfight with Glen Davis concussed, Rondo having to play through a leg injury and now we facing a must win game 6 at home with the Magic psyche bionically rebuilt the the NBA cronies. No other sport has to deal with this sort of manipulation. I used to try my hardest to ignore it but the Kings-Lakers series awhile back totally convinced me that the NBA has an agenda during this time of year. Their decision to extend this series by any means necessary is only going to hurt whoever wins the ECF and of course help the Lakers who I’m absolutely sure will in the West in 6 while the East slugs it out in 7. NBA-Where Amazing (Manipulation) Happens!!!

you were not better than the magic in game four. period.

get real dude. the celts were beat and they were beat tonight, with or without perk, the calls etc. anyone who thinks differently is deluded. the call on perk was bogus for sure, but so was the no call on pierce literally throwing redick out of bounds. etc etc etc/ it goes on and on.
you guys were getting smoked before perkins left and got smoked after he left. period.
what springs to mind to the casual observer is that the magic are playing with more spring in their step, their shots are stronger.
garnett and pierce look gassed. rondo is off.
if you guys could get 3-4 days to rest, that would help. but since this is a men’s league, they play friday.

Game four could have gone either way. Whining? Like Phil Jackson after every game. Pierce did get called for a foul on Redick btw, just not a tech or a flagrant.

I want to believe so badly

I just don’t see a lot of reasons to make me believe right now. How are they going to do this with injuries and suspensions? Hope is a funny thing. I was sooo happy after we beat Cleveland, but I still didn’t have any great expectations coming into this series. Then they went up 3-0 and gave me hope, and now anything less than a trip to The Finals will be a huge letdown. Someone previously mentioned the domino effect of losing Game 4. Agree 100%! Hey, Ol’ Green Boyz, I would say I’m on the verge of panicking now.

where the team who wins the last game always is the better team. Theirs no consistant opinions anymore, just whoever won previous is the team to beat. If we win game 6, to them, we will be the best thing since sliced bread.

Dwight Howard unintentionally fractured Courtney Lee's cheekbone, his own teammate, in PRACTICE during last year's playoffs.

Or he did that on purpose too?

If you watch the replay everyone was in motion there. Dwight was fouled by Robinson. There is no intentionality. It’s a shame tho.

Just like Gortat didn’t intentionally hit Daniels with his chest.

Perkins wont be suspended.

What is your explanation for him trying to rip Pierce’s arm off when he threw him to the ground? I also assume that all of the other elbows he has hit Celtics’ playerse with in this series have been completely inadvertant. Again, he is a dirty player.

If he were any other center (except maybe Shaq) he would be hurt by now. And Pierce… Pierce is a quality dramatic actor.

It's VERY unlikely that Davis is lost for the remainder of the playoffs

VERY unlikely. Worst case would be 1 week off. But I highly doubt that too. He will probably be right back, playing on Friday. Perk will have 1-2 Ts rescinded, and Sheed walked off on his power…. We COULD be looking at a full squad on Friday. We really just don’t know right now.

Doc did say that, but

… we watched Baby from the moment he got hit till he got up… in slow motion. At NO point did he lose consciousness. That’s all that matters… as you know, “Doc” is just a nickname :))

Since he did not black out, the remaining questions are: how long his symptoms lasted (looked short… less than 10 minutes) and whether he had/has any amnesia. If no amnesia and less than 15 min symptoms, and he remains symptom-free…. he’ll be cleared to return.

Also, it helps that he was hit on the jaw

… so some of the energy is dissipated by the time it gets to the brain. Makes it more likely that he will fit the criteria for a quick return.

Sorry, missed your question

It means he HAD a concussion, but mild enough to allow him to return quickly. You can have a concussion where it’s ok to return within 20 MINUTES of being asymptomatic. It has to be a “first” concussion, of course…. but it happens. From what we saw on the video… this one could fit that category (grade 1).

All these rules were developed specifically to AVOID permanent brain damage. We can rest assured that they will follow them. Heck, unless things have changed, I believe their main Doc (Cantu) wrote one of the sets of rules for handling concussions…. so they know what they’re doing, of course.

But, all sports have become super conscious about this type of injury, as they should be, and that in the end could mean no baby the rest of this series.

we cant control who we will have on the bench ready to go, but we can still win this series, i mean hello we are up 3 games to 2.

The winner of game 6 will win the series, and i wont panic about my beloved Celtics until we lose that game. Im still very confident and optomistic and honestly, its up to our Celtics to decide their destiny.

Still is. KG’s fine, Paul’s fine. Ray’s fine. Rondo — we hope is fine. Perk’s fine if they’ll let him play. Baby — unknown… I’d say probably fine. Sheed — unknown, 50-50 to be fine.

I guess we’re ok. But it’s far from where it was just 4-5 days ago. Plenty to worry about.

He’s been a wilting flower offensively. Takes a few shots but isn’t putting his imprint on the offense. If he’s fine, we need more out of him offensively.

Because Dwight Howard is now a proven walking, talking menace on the floor. By letting him play like this — elbows flying everywhere — the NBA is endangering the health of other players. There could be a lawsuit there for a clever lawyer…

But in all those instances, each offending player’s defense is clear: they’re playing a game, and those are the risks. But to accuse the NBA of negligence in allowing Howard to continue throwing elbows and injuring multiple players… when the video evidence has been there every time… that’s a whole different category. I don’t know… just wondering.

The first quarter on Friday is absolutely crucial.

If we jump to their throads at the beginning of the game, make some run early and fans help our players with great noise, it will be just like in game 3. Conversely, if the Celtics start poorly they can loose their heads and we will be in serious troubles. I also hope that refs can keep Horward’s elbows away from our players… I know…Pipedream…

To be honest, I didn't feel the Celtics could win Game 5

It is a momentum and psychological thing. But I feel good about their chance in Game 6 Friday even with the injuries.

As for that dirty Howard, hope he gets some of LeBron’s elbow injury or tennis elbow or whatever. I know it is bad to wish injury upon someone, but to Howard is an exception.

lets just take a look at what we have here

ok, so perkins will play in game 6, though if he gets one more technical he can’t play in game 7. we have wallace. davis’ concussion will probably keep him out of game 6. so we have 2 people who could potentially guard dwight howard. the loss of davis really hurts. so we are very vulnerable at the post, considering weve gotten into foul trouble every single game of the series. theres still hope though. pierce was a little off, but he is still an outstanding player, and if ray allen can start executing pick and roll on the perimeter he can knock down some 3s. then of course there’s rondo, whos secretly battling some injuries. but if we can minimize foul trouble, we could possibly be able to guard howard, we have got some good defenders who can defend the 3 pointers, which hasnt happened yet but theres a first time for everything. offensively if kg shows up and rondo can get some open lanes, and pierce and allen get enough attempts, then we might be able to keep up with the magic. dont forget rondos stealing will give us some 2 for 1 oppurtunities, some of which we had in game 5. theres still a good chance. but i think if we dont win this one then were screwed. yeah, sure, davis will probably be back for game 7, and wallaces “tweaked back” (???) will untweak itself, but we will be completely demoralized. remember this though, 3 teams who have tried to come back from a 3-0 deficit have actually forced a game 7. none of them have won it. and i swear if you switch to the lakers if the celts lose i will personally come down to your house and beat the crap outta you
