I never blame refs when watch baseball or football.

Or Refs in Hockey. The NBA is the only one with completely bad officiating!

by liamail on May 7, 2010 9:13 PM EDT up reply actions

It's a Celtics blog

But if you really don’t want to hear about the Sox, you probably don’t want to come here. Comments get thrown around about them all the time.

by TheOutletPass on May 7, 2010 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions

I know...

And there is no way liamail would have been able to know people dvred it and stuff… It’s just a combination of frustration from the C’s game and having some of the sox game spoiled for me now.

by Mike-Dub on May 7, 2010 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Whatever

The frigging refs are standing around watching the game just like the Celtics are. Don’t blame them, I think the refs moved faster then every Celtic not named Rondo.

An embarrassment

Yes, Lebron has been great, but the lack of effort on defense, and the totally confused play on offense is just startling to me. It’s like these guys never played a game together before.

Lebron is on a mission and the refs are on a mission…they would probably make the game a bit close in game 4, but believe me, it would take a mammoth effort from the Old 3 plus Rondo to carve out a win in game 4.

THey need to bounce back, I was wary of a four day break between games, they clearly lost all the momentum from the previous game. I didn’t want much of this game, and don’t plan on watching the recording haha so I don’t know much. I was confused about some of the media saying that this was make or break for the cav’s—-C’s need to feel the pressure of an underdog to perform.

Sure the calls were a little one sided in the first quarter but

all that panned out through the game. This was classic Celtics from the last third of the season. Players on the bench seemed to show nothing. How can you sit there and not have a scowl on your face?

They didn’t seem to care, so we stopped watching. I believe all those that paid to attend this game should get a refund. David “piece of garbage” Stern says it is all about the product. The product on display from the Celtics tonight was bad.

Sorry you didn't like my description but

these are the end of game stats in regards to fouls:

Cleveland: 24
Boston: 22

foul shots:

Cleveland: 31-34
Boston: 21-29

The fouls only account for 10 points of the lead. Maybe it did have something to do with the timing of the fouls but the did lose by 29.

Well, Like Ive said a zillion times; We mortgaged our future to get a chance to win Núm. 17 with experience legs. We won it and were left with no legs. About 20 years from now we will get another chance. Dont complain cause we went into it head first. Now our only tradeable asset is Rondo and if we trade him we have no team left to start building around. I have to say we have been very unlucky with our ping pong balls – nobodys to fault for that one. That certainly hasnt help, but luck has not help us any. Very unfortunate weve missed on Bias,Duncan, Oden, Durant, Billups, Joe Johnson; wait! we had Billups and Joe Johnson! lololol. What happened there. Well, we still have Doc- he is all we need to start afresh. I said sweep – well, we werent swept. I was wrong there. Night. Must have been the refs faulf tonight.

When all else fails, the "Bill Walker is gonna be a SUPERSTAR someday" chatter begins

Yes, offensively Bill had some talent. But the kid plays zero defense and that’s a tad important on a defense oriented team.

He can be a solid roleplayer for a team like the knicks, for sure… Can he do somethings on a championship contender? Doubt it.

Larry Bird is not walking back through that door.
Kevin McHale is not walking back through that door.
Billy Walker is not walking back through that door.

Here is the thing though...

what if he is?….then that means we made the same mistake again by giving up on young talent, whereas with Nate, we already knew why he was brought in, and he is headed out in the offseason, in the meantime, BW is gonna use the summer to develop and continue to hone his skills which we all do acknowlegde and admit, so he helps the Knicks around 10 ppg next season and who do we got when we need to spell PP or Ray?….no one.

Agfain, for the KNICKS

Getting minutes on a team that’s in tank mode and being an impact player for a championship caliber team are FAR different things.

He can be a decent role player on a perennial lottery team, but I doubt he’ll make an impact on team that really needs it in the future. His lack of defensive awareness makes him a liability on the floor.

yup..he is a defensive liability for now...

but he is young, he’s only 22 or 23 if i ain’t mistaken so all I was clamoring for is we gave up too early on him thats all when we would need athletic bodies to spell PP and Ray next season..

Ladies and Gentlemen

I give you————your 2009-2010 Boston Celtics!!!

same team we’ve had to watch the entire 2010 part of the season.

first game this series where the officiating wasn’t a major issue (good ol’ Salvatore still found a way to make a BS call with that flagrant on Perk) and the C’s choose to come out completely passive to start the game. just chucking up jumpers that would do Antoine proud. These veteran idiots need to finally grasp the idea that they need to come out driving to the basket, not tossing up jumpers. Not only do they need to drive to the basket but they need to make sure they get obvious contact and stop shying away from contact. need to really push the refs to make calls against CLE.

Only bright spots were Rondo and TA (at least he was aggressive).

Refs had nothing at all to do with this

Guys you know I have said its the refs quite a few other games, but not this one. Not by a longshot. This loss is totally on our starting 5. Including Rondo.
This team has been depending on Rondo far too much to create all plays.
I want to see them let Paul bring the ball upcourt
something has to change or they are going down again Sunday then it’s over.

by Snowball on May 7, 2010 10:25 PM EDT reply actions

You beat me to it, Sir.
This team has been depending on Rondo far too much to create all plays

Um, he’s the point guard. That’s what he does.

exactly

and with the way PP came out chucking up bricks tonight, there’d be even less of a reason to go down that bad path

by slamtheking on May 7, 2010 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Celtics lost this game in the 1st quarter

And I thought the refs were pretty one-sided in the first quarter, especially that foul on Perk. But we never showed any fight as the game went on. That was the most disappointing part, it was angering to watch.

by Berkcelt on May 7, 2010 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Was it in any way different the Varejao’s flagrant on Ray Allen?

It’s common sense – if you don’t even pretend like you are trying to go for the ball (e.g. not even raising your hands for a block and just lowering your shoulder and plowing into someone), the refs will call it a flagrant. This has been the NBA standard for close to 10 years now. Get over it.

by neyvit on May 7, 2010 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I’ll watch it again but I’m pretty sure Perk did make a play on the ball, I think he might have even got his hand on it. Sure it was hard, but I don’t really see how it was unnecessary. In fact it’s basically the same thing Shaq did to Rondo in game 1.

As for Varejao, he was still upset over a previous call and just ran into Ray. Frankly I don’t think it was excessive and at first glance I thought it was a bad call. But if the refs thought it was unnecessary then at least there’s some logic to it.

by Berkcelt on May 7, 2010 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm sure you're real sorry

If that’s a flagrant, that’s fine, but it has nothing to do with Perk going for the ball. (Even if it did he obviously got his hand out there.) The criteria is “unnecessary and/or excessive” contact. I was thinking of Shaq’s foul, at the time, and I still fail to see the difference besides the call made; well except that and maybe one guy got hit in a more vulnerable position.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuZBgeJVQHw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj0Qz4-vtlw

I guess I made the mistake of thinking they’d make a call consistently.

by Berkcelt on May 8, 2010 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions

have to switch it around or else

if it was so bad letting Paul bring up the ball then why did they do it before ? Rondo’s routine is covered by the Cavs now. something has to change on offense or its over.
Tonight was absolutely pitiful on offense. a total clusterfck.

by Snowball on May 7, 2010 10:32 PM EDT reply actions

Have you watched any games this season?

No disrespect, but our offense comes to a standstill when Paul brings the ball up. Not to mention he’s shooting 13 for 42 in this series. Going to Paul right now is not the answer, I think it’ll make things worse.

Offensively, Rondo shredded the Cavs in the first 2 games so I’m not in a rush to deviate. If anything, he needed to be MORE aggressive tonight. And it would’ve been helpful if Ray and Paul could, ya know, HIT SOME SHOTS.

Rondooooooo

by RJ87 on May 7, 2010 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions

RJ, it didn't work tonight. badly.

Cavs figured out how to shut Rondo down.
If they don’t change Sunday’s approach, they are toast.
I’m not say every drive, but some of them to throw the Cavs off at least.

by Snowball on May 7, 2010 10:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Shut him down? He still had 18pts, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds tonight

But he’s just 1 player on a team… Ray and Paul were NO SHOWS tonight, that was the difference. Paul got his looks, he bricked them. Can’t fault Rondo for getting Paul his shot.

Rondooooooo

by RJ87 on May 7, 2010 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry, I just don't want to see Paul initiating the offense.

It sends a cold shiver down my spine, like Michael Myers is standing behind me.

Rondooooooo

by RJ87 on May 7, 2010 10:44 PM EDT up reply actions

think about Rondo getting open

Rondo can get open easily.. they would have difficulty covering him and that would open up shots across the board. Right now if nothing changes you’re looking at a repeat of tonight cuz the Cavs are just gonna fill the gaps again. Look at how much time was blown tonight. Celtic possessions were long and pointless. House of Pain.

by Snowball on May 7, 2010 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Like I said, the difference tonight wasn't Rondo handling the ball. He's the PG, he should handle the ball and set up plays.

The difference is Ray going 2 for 9, and Paul going 4 for 15 (13 for 42 on the series, btw). For us to win, those guys have to hit a decent clip.

Add to that no bench production (looks like game 2 Sheed was a mirage) and and early foul issues, no defensive energy, and the result is a blowout. Paul initiating the offense (shudder) is not the answer to those issues.

this was predictable

we beat them bad in cleveland and they’ve been stewing since tuesday. we on the ofther hand have not been practicing and have been sitting around listening to everyone tell us how great we are. for whatever reason we always come out soft at home. I knew we were in trouble 2 minutes into the game because I’ve seen this routine a;; year. I think we will bounce back in game 4 but pierce had to play better.

good point Red

in total agreement. This next game really is Paul’s and he has to get more involved in the plays or we start talking about next year.

Mailed it in

The Celtics played like they were expecting a big spanking from the Cavs. Insteading of fighting back, they just bend over with their pants down. Man!

What would you do

if you came out and saw Bennett Salvatore out there? Game was over before it started.
