Summer League Invites

Some great work by Ridiculous Upside with the 411 on which undrafted players are getting looks in summer league.  Here's an initial list of invites to the Celtics Summer League team in Orlando.

DeShawn Sims - Another undrafted player out of Michigan, but it wasn't because of lack of production in the Big Ten.  Sims averaged 16.8 points and 7.6 boards as a tweener.  Sims will play for the Celtics in Orlando.

Ryan Thompson - You know what I know about Thompson? He's Jason Thompson's brother.  And after averaging 15+ points and 5+ boards the past three seasons at Rider, you'd think that'd be enough.  He'll play with his brother on the Sacramento Kings Summer League team and for the Boston Celtics in Orlando.

Artsiom Parakhouski - The 7-footer out of Radford had a lot of good buzz around him, but I guess the NBA wasn't interested in big men that seem to have reached their potential.  Parakhouski will play for Boston in Orlando.

Rodney Green - The LaSalle guard will play for the Boston Celtics in Orlando.

I'm intrigued by Parakhouski

He’s a project, but will look forward to seeing him in Orlando if the games are televised.

Me too

You can get the games online for 10 bucks on the NBA website.

Add me to that intrigued list

Don’t know what to expect so I’m hoping to be surprised.

It's a pity, but I assume Semih Erden won't be playing this summer league.

I’d like the opportunity to see how Parakhouski and Erden compete in similar circumstances. I guess I’ll just have to leave up to Ainge and the coaching staff (whoever that is).

Thanks for the link

Also, keep refreshing that page as it’s constantly updating with the latest Celtics news!
Actually, I’ll just tell you here – Cornell’s Ryan Wittman, son of NBA coach Randy, will also play for the Celtics this Summer.

I write about basketball players with Ridiculous Upside. I know you'll love it.

both wittman and rodney green worked out for the lakers

wittman is like a smaller scalabrine. probably a better 3pt shooter, high bbiq, but not an athlete. green is a better athlete, and more of a slasher, and better defender. both are swingmen.

Ridiculous Upside laid an egg
Artsiom Parakhouski – The 7-footer out of Radford had a lot of good buzz around him, but I guess the NBA wasn’t interested in big men that seem to have reached their potential.

This seems to be way off base, given the following bit of information:

Parakhouski has put himself firmly on the radar of NBA decision-makers with his play thus far this season –it is hard to ignore a player that ranks third in our database in PER, and has only been playing basketball for about five years now.

Regardless of his play down the stretch, Parakhouski will draw a lot of attention come draft season considering his physical profile, production and the fact that he still has plenty of potential left to continue to improve.

zoubek?

it sounds like perk will be out most of the year and we all know that it takes at least one year to get over major surgery so for all intents and purposes, perk is gone for the entire season. brad miller and shaq would be good fill ins if we could get them but danny needs to bring as many big men to camp as he can find and hope that someone stands out

If Doc stays

no point in getting excited/interested in summer league/our rookies/undrafted rookie free agents as none will make the roster (except Danny’s boy AB). We’ll have a roster full of washed up/old vet min players and probably only carry 13 players to save on money.
Now if Doc goes, things could get more interesting, and we might go towards more of a youth movement. I would definitely enjoy seeing some fresh, athletic bodies backing up the big 4.
The two Ryans—Thompson and Wittman, both seem intriguing with their shooting ability. It always seems like I look forward to the season more when there’s new young faces to follow, and I think young guys kind of give the older players a little shot of energy just being around them!
