Our refs for Game 3 will be Danny Crawford, Bennett Salvatore, and, yes, Bill Kennedy, the man infamous for a supposed bias against the Boston Celtics

Cripes.

then it's 8 on 5 basketball again!

unless sasha vujacic is in then it’s 7 on 6 basketball, vujacic plays for the celtics whenever he is in the lakers line up, he is like a valuable 6th man for the celtics

Not 8 on 5...

18,629 on 8.

The fans can will Boston to overcome anything tonight and then hopefully do the same again on Thursday and Sunday.

If you’re going to be there, get loud and don’t let up!

excellent point

When Perk was asked what he thought of Howard winning the gold medal this summer, he responded: "What’s his impression of me after I won a ring?"

by Green17 on Jun 8, 2010 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Salvatore? Kennedy?

After we’ve already had Joe Crawford and the guy who throws basketballs at fans in Game 1? How do these guys keep getting Finals assignments? Seriously? How? Does David Stern just not give a damn about his credibility problem at all?

pretty sad state of affairs

when a fan base gets the officiating crew line-up prior to the game and can ‘expect’ certain things to happen -

the nba should be like mcdonalds…a big mac tastes the same in vegas as in boston as in saratoga springs -

but NOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo……, it’s all very, very different -

Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk

Actually . . .

I expect a crappy job from officials, no matter who’s in. The only difference is the degree of crapitude.

It’s one big spectrum ranging from light brown to dark.

by Lucky17 on Jun 8, 2010 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Crappy is fine...

…so long as it’s equally crappy for both teams.

by Bent on Jun 8, 2010 12:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I was looking at a lakers blog and they seem worried about the refs too, I just hope they call it evenly, they could be terrible as long as it’s terrible both ways

+1

plus boston’s 1st home game will psych up some celts bench players which will be the difference in this game. NR, BBD, RW, TA will come out strong vs lakers bench

Kennedy?!?

I`d rather see Donaghy working the game, while getting paid by the Lakers…than see Kennedy calling a Celtic game!

Guys, relax

The Laker fans are no happier about these refs than we are.

Let’s see how it plays out.

That’s nothing, prepare for Dick Bavetta on Thursday.

Take Bavetta at home any day over Salvatore and Kennedy together.

Could've heard wrong

But I dont think Bavetta is reffing any games these finals

ugh

good chance perk gets number 7 tonight

by Mooose on Jun 8, 2010 11:53 AM EDT reply actions

Anyone else find it weird?

I think it’s strange at best and alarming at worst that I can name at least a dozen NBA refs without taxing my memory.

I can name exactly one NFL ref – Hochuli – because I think he has been cloned and works every single NFL game.

The only reason I can even name one MLB umpire is because he’s made a spectacular failure recently and is named James Joyce.

Hockey? Soccer? Not one. Now granted, basketball is my favorite sport, but I shouldn’t know who these people are. This is a problem.

I don't want to bitch about the officiating yet

Besides Jackson doesn’t like Salvatore either.

…120 fouls called in two games is way too many for the mainstream fan staying awake past 11pm, so maybe the NBA will give orders to just let them play

by CuttingEdgeRadio on Jun 8, 2010 12:15 PM EDT reply actions

As a Lakers fan . . .

Great blog site, good insight and response to game 2 win. The Lakers offered up the game on a platter and you took it.

It’s unfortunate that most of the talk today is about the refs. Every story line should be about Pierce and Garnett not showing up as well as Odom and Artest for LA. What will these 4 guys bring to the table tonight? If these guys get called for 18-20 fouls collectively, this series is in trouble.

Personally, I feel that this is going to continue until game 7 when they’ll finally put the whistles away. Stern and the NBA – more than anyone else – want a 7-game series. The Finals have been a huge disappointment since when? The 80’s when the Lakers/Celtics clashed in all of those great series. Boston fans going to game 3 tonight, get ready to call in ‘sick’ tomorrow and drink a ton of coffee because this is going to be another ugly, 3-hour game dominated by the officials.

by jedkni on Jun 8, 2010 12:31 PM EDT reply actions

I am much more interested in those players too. Hate that the refs are a distraction. I think that Odom’s not been given much of an opportunity with Bynum playing so well. The others are making valuable contributions even if they aren’t dominating the game or our attention. Eager to see what happens tonight. Can’t claim to know how this will pan out, but I’m excited about the Celtics!!!

by Thruthelookingglass on Jun 8, 2010 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I must be in the minority, but I never worry about who is reffing

I just look forward to the game and the Celtics playing well

by vinnie on Jun 8, 2010 12:44 PM EDT reply actions

Me too

I am over the ref talk. I don’t care. I really don’t. I’m waiting for the game, and that’s it.

by Tai on Jun 8, 2010 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Don' care?

You should care. This is the Lakers vs. Boston. The greatest rivalry in all of sports. Midwesterners can have Ohio St/Michigan; Southwesterners can have Duke/North Carolina; even Boston/NY fans can take your baseball rivalry. Nothing in sports is better than LA/Boston. We’re fortunate to have this series again when Boston looked like they were headed no where just a few months back.

The refs. have to put their whistles away, but as I stated above, I don’t think they will until game 7. Strap yourselves in for another ugly 4 games because this WILL be a referee dominated series.

by jedkni on Jun 8, 2010 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Do I care about the series or the refs?

The thing is, it depends on what you believe as far as the refs. The bottom line is, Tim Donaghy is feeding people like you horse manure. Please discuss your conspiracy theories with someone who cares. That person is not me, and won’t ever BE me.

No offense Tai

But you know what this thread is gonna be about, the comments that will follow – why come in here at all?

And on that note

Tim Donaghy can stuff it. Go in a cave and disappear for all I care.

by Tai on Jun 8, 2010 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Is that all you got?

How about you take yours out of your you know what and put a pacifier in it? Supposedly, according to these Laker fans on ESPN.com forums, WE were given the game anyways. What EXACTLY are you worried about?

by Tai on Jun 8, 2010 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Take it easy man

The celts just have to win 3 more games for us to get rid of these faker trolls, err, sorry, fans. Until then, deal with it!

by friedgreentomatoes on Jun 8, 2010 3:05 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

This all started

Thanks to that moron Ron Artest trying to get Pierce riled up the first possession of Game 1! That set the tone. Consider Gasol pushing Perkins out of bounds too, and the refs are gonna be tighter on the calls.

If you can’t just enjoy the game, I question why you watch, apart from the fact you’re a Celtic fan.

by Tai on Jun 8, 2010 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Playing 5 vs 8 again

Well that’s nothing new for the C’s…..and hopefully like in the past they will not let the officiating get to their heads and pull out a win

The crowd is going to be fired up…and if there is bad officiating (wait…if?…lol who am I kidding here)…..

When the bad officiating starts…I hope the crowd gives it to the refs cauz all that whistle blowing is getting annoying down and slowing the pace of the game

Let them play Refs…stop ruining the finals !!

by Rashi_S on Jun 8, 2010 1:08 PM EDT reply actions

Sigh

No rational observer can come to the conclusion, based on games 1 and 2, that it’s 5 on 8 tonight.

The refs are not against the Celtics.

by TheOutletPass on Jun 8, 2010 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

The NBA would be so much better if the refs were independent of the league.

There will always be a justified suspicion of the NBA refs as long as they’re directly accountable to the league’s front office. Instead, they should be employed by a handful of competing independent contracting firms, that themselves are accountable to a board of governors (again, separate from the league).

I trust the NBA’s existing reffing operation about as far as I could throw that hack, David Stern.

by no kidding on Jun 8, 2010 1:12 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe we just play with no refs and let the players call fouls

by threats13 on Jun 8, 2010 1:28 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

bunch of cry babies worry about playing good and let the refs do their job

by rabidmonkey51 on Jun 8, 2010 1:42 PM EDT reply actions

that's the problem...

…they don’t do their job, at least not very well. i hope they are a non-factor. however, games 1 and 2 leave you thinking otherwise.

I fully expect Perk to get T'd up Tonight

And for a sec, I thought it said Joe Crawford instead of Danny – I was about to board a plane and head to the NBA offices in person.

1984

in the 1984 finals, the refs called an average of 56 fouls a game

by Mooose on Jun 8, 2010 2:30 PM EDT reply actions

Given these refs...

Perk gets his Tech tonight and Kobe has -4 fouls

P2 is the man.

by MikeMartin on Jun 8, 2010 2:36 PM EDT reply actions

Wow this is my worst fear.....

having the refs try to manipulate the game to aid LA..

I hope they call the game fair tonight, let the boys play and let the players decide the outcome of the game tonight !

by fordescort on Jun 8, 2010 2:42 PM EDT reply actions

My worst fears...

Is that the tears of Laker fans when they cry “WAHHHH WE LOST CAUSE THE SERIES WAS RIGGED” will flood LA and drown everyone in it.

Or Boston. <_<

by Tai on Jun 8, 2010 3:27 PM EDT reply actions

Please note

Dan Crawford does not = Joe Crawford. Dan’s pretty reasonable.

Kennedy has a HISTORY of anti-Celtics officiating, even fighting with the coach… but the last time we saw him — which was after the story broke about him — he did a good job. It’s probable that all the media attention on him has made him both aware and wary of showing any obvious bias. So he might be ok.

Salvatore is a hopeless jerk and incompetent. He’s always a risk. But overall, the refs have NOT shown an anti-Boston bias. And that’s all I ask for at this point. I long ago gave up hope of getting actual “good officiating”. I’m very happy if we just get it unbiased. They’re gonna be bad… but at least they’re bad in both directions.

by DRJ1 on Jun 8, 2010 4:03 PM EDT reply actions

Wow, I was so excited for this game.

and now am dreading it. For the past few days after the game everyone was talking about how the refs favored us and hurt the Lakers… and I have a feeling the refs are not gonna call a single foul on the Lakers.. Phil Jackson knows what he’s doing when he complains about the refs… ugh this sucks

I can because I will.. Makes sense?
