Around SBN: L'Equipe Claims He's Coming To Chelsea On Five Year Deal

Ainge on TA: "We had a good six years with Tony. It wasn't a financial decision. You'd have to ask Tony (why he didn't return)."

It was the 3rd year and playing time I'd guess.

Am I looking into it too much?

Or is the last line that says, “You’d have to ask Tony why he didn’t return” sound like Ainge was saying in a angry tone?

I can because I will.. Makes sense?

I was thinking the same thing.

I’ve been a TA supporter for most of his time here but he can be replaced and if his contract were to be a deal-breaker for some big move post lock-out then he can be sacrificed for the short term. Good luck to him in Memphis.

Doesn't make sense

David Aldridge reported that the Cs offered TA a measly 100,000 dollar raise from this 2009-2010 salary (reportedly it was 5.2 million over 2 years), while Memphis offered him 9.7 million over 3 years. That’s a difference of 4.5 million—which means it sounds an awful lot like a financial decision to me.

Wow

Can’t find a good defender that cheap. DA dropped the ball here by not paying TA 3.5 mil a year. That is not breaking the bank, especially when his contract can be moved easily if needed during the 3rd year.

And why didn’t he try to make a S&T with Memphis, maybe for Ronnie Brewer or trade exemption?

Danny would have offered him more if he thought he was going to be able to keep him. This deal had to have been discussed quietly earlier than this week with the other team. A free agent would talk to many teams before he made a decision. I think this was already in place, Danny knew it, or at least sensed it, and didn’t even try to keep him.

I will not miss Tony. Professional sports is about consistency(among other things), and that was not a TA strong point. And after this many years, the Green Braintrust knew already.

Don't Over-rate Tony

If you take Danny at face value and it wasn’t about the dollars then you have to remember that Tony is one of the dumbest pros to come through Boston in a long time in any sport.

Would it be nice to have him back? Yes. Should we lose a wink of sleep over it? No.

If Danny had WANTED to keep him, he could have used one of the Italian methods

1. Sent Guido and Big Juli over to explain to Tony about kneecaps etc etc.

2. Sent Guido and Big Juli over to talk to Chris at Memphis about life in general. (Having one)

3. Push the green stuff under the table where it don’t show.

BTW: I’m Italian, lighten up guys. Tony prolly got busted by the owners. They were VERY VERY incensed about the shooting incident at the club in Chicago.

Yeah, Wic has made it VERY clear

that he expects professionalism from his employees, even on their personal time (and I agree – especially when these employees are all public figures).

The way he ripped Big Baby Davis publically over the punching incident last fall was the same deal.

‘Hard to say for certain that this played any direct part in the negotiations, but its pretty clear that these sentiments on the organization’s part are real.

If the 3rd year was the sticking point....

I can understand Danny not resigning TA since he wants as much contracts as possible to come off the books in 2012 (like KG’s, Rays, Oneils etc.) so the C’s can have as much financial flexibility as possible to rebuild.
