Ronnie Brewer tells Y! Sports he turned down Boston offer to sign 3-year, $12.5 million deal with Bulls. Big pro for CHI was chance to start . . .

Brewer says Celtics offered similar $, but starting & re-joining Utah teammates Boozer, Korver were main draw . . .

Ronnie Brewer said sign and trade with Memphis would have been needed to go to Celtics. Such a deal might have included Tony Allen.

if true then,

we had a shot at a tall wing defender using Sheed’s contract but we just didn’t have his buddies (Boozer and Korver) to keep him company,

he would have been a nice fit, on to the next puzzle piece

by Banner 18 on Jul 16, 2010 2:40 PM EDT reply actions

my bad,

I thought it was a sign and trade with Sheed’s contract, instead it was a proposed sign and trade with Tony’s. So the Grizz just went and signed Tony flat out for the same $$ and years.

They're still looking to...

…get something out of T.A.; as they should.

by Little D on Jul 16, 2010 2:42 PM EDT reply actions

How?

They Griz’ remaining free agents stink (Steve Hunter, Tinsley and Marcus Williams), and there’s no one under contract on their roster that they can/would trade to us? Am I missing something?

by theham on Jul 16, 2010 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Good!

Ronnie Brewer sucks. He’s soft, doesn’t defend or rebound, he’s undersized for his position, is concerned only with his own stats, has no outside shot, and is locker room poison. And he has seriously bad breath, probably from not going to the dentist enough. The last thing the Celtics need is a bum like that on the team.

I'm assuming this is tongue in cheek, since the player you're describing...

… sounds like almost the opposite of Ronnie Brewer.

You’re right about the “no outside shot” stuff, though. I couldn’t tell you about his breath.

I actuall did hear something along those lines. The person I heard it from was on a cell phone and it was breaking up, but they definitely said either babies or bacon. Knowing what I know now about his low and despicable character, I’m sure it was babies.

Tell us how you really feel

Where were you before he turned us down?

by Little D on Jul 16, 2010 2:46 PM EDT reply actions

Well,

Before he turned down the Celtics I was very high on him. I felt like he was a young guy who is a great outside shooter and defender who gets a lot of steals, and like he would have been a great backup to both Paul and Ray, a big upgrade over Marquis. But, in the last 10 minutes, since learning he is going to Chicago, I’ve had the chance to do a little more research, and now I see I was completely wrong about this loser.

Well...

You were indeed wrong about his outside shot, since it stinks. Other than that, Ronnie Brewer is an excellent player. I would have preferred him 10 times over Tony Allen.

Sometimes I’m wrong about a player before I get a chance to do proper research. For example, for many years I watched Jermaine O’Neal, and I always hated him. I thought he was a thug and a spoiled brat who would be poison for any team’s chemistry. But in the last few days I’ve been learning more about him, and now my opinion is that he is a wise veteran with great physical and moral strength, and what I had mistaken for thuggishness was just a passion for straining with every fiber of his being to win and to do the Lord’s work on earth.

to see what Most would have said about Rick Mahorn or Bill Laimbeer if they ever would have played for the Celts. Actually, no, nothing would have been awesome about Laimbeer on the Celtics.

Yeah, like the time he squared up....

..on that chubby Detroit fan standing near the Indiana bench. I always figured that he probably regretted that as much as anything in his life.

by 17wasEZ on Jul 16, 2010 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions

well...

I like Tony a lot, so maybe I’m wrong, but Tony will be missed here (not his turnovers) more than Brewer will be anywhere. Be ready for “bring back Tony” threads before next trade deadline.

I haven’t seen Ronnie Brewer a lot, but I’d rather have Rudy Fernandez. Rudy is better.

Yeah...

You probably haven’t seen much of Ronnie Brewer if you’d prefer Tony Allen. Brewer is bigger, at least as good of a defender, a more consistent scorer, and has never had anybody that I know of question his character.

If Barnes goes to Miami

our best option at a wing might be…

gulp

Marquis Daniels

by MikeMartin on Jul 16, 2010 2:51 PM EDT reply actions

i hope the Celtics keep Daniels.

I don’t think he was ever the same after his injury last season.

by Berkcelt on Jul 16, 2010 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions

How could the Celtics offer him $4 million a year?

Where would that money have come from? Why does the NBA have to have such a cofusing set of rules when it comes to salaries?

whos left???

Hardly anyone.

Ugh.

We have no bench.

by j804 on Jul 16, 2010 3:05 PM EDT reply actions

Like Vinnie said,

When healthy…our bench isn’t really that bad as of now. just needs a 2-3 player.

by Tai on Jul 16, 2010 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions

The only thing is Perk might not be himself until the playoffs (and not even then). I think we need a big and two wings. Hopefully one of the wings won’t be a minimum salary guy. Too bad we couldn’t get Brewer.

by Berkcelt on Jul 16, 2010 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Memphis is under the cap

they sign Brewer, we sign T.A.(he’s our own) and then trade for each other. I think that’s the way it would have worked.

by Little D on Jul 16, 2010 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

Ouch.

I would of loved this addition to the bench. He would of been near perfect, and an obvious upgrade to TA. I still can’t help but think there are some good players on dannys list we have no idea about. Keep the faith Celtic Nation!!

He’ll be starting for us.

And Boozer+Korver didn’t hurt either; i’m sure…

Your new “Chicago Jazz”!

by BAB-Bass on Jul 16, 2010 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions

okay, this is idiotic

if the money was about the same, brewer isn’t smart. 1, who has a better chance of winning, boston or chicago? boston. 2, where will he get more PT? not sure its chicago…i don’t see him starting there. here, he backs up two aging stars (ray and paul), with the idea that, over time, he might take over for them. 3, we have maybe the best coach in the game, esp. for players. 4, he’s reuniting with his buddies boozer and korver…and together, they’ve won how many titles? how many conference titles? in fact, i’d argue they’re going to a worse team…the bulls with them are not as good as the jazz with them. and the jazz with them weren’t good enough to really contend for a title. so…yeah, i really hope brewer was offered more money by chicago. because picking them over us doesn’t make much sense if the money was comparable.

brewer would have been nice

But they need someone who could shoot. There’s still players out there to be had, especially via trade.

I see Harangody as being a useful fifth big, even moreso than Erden.

by superluminal on Jul 16, 2010 5:59 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Why is it so hard to find a defensive-oriented swing man who has at least a mediocre outside jumper?

You’d think a boat load of such guys would be available – with or without bad tatoos. Doesn’t the NBA’s development league ever produce anything?

by no kidding on Jul 16, 2010 6:18 PM EDT reply actions

D-League does produce players...

who wind up getting signed by the Warriors…

Which is like getting traded to another D-League team….

by Snowball on Jul 16, 2010 6:26 PM EDT reply actions

Too bad....

I think he would have been a decent addition… If Danny can find a young wing defender that has some kind of shot, that would be ideal… The bench needs scoring.

by LuckyNumber07 on Jul 16, 2010 6:50 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

well he would've gotten more playing time here

and he would have been apart of banner # 18

Even funnier, was when Wade said " I feel sorry for whoever has to guard us". Uh, I'm pretty sure there is a defense right here in Boston that specializes in punking teams just like yours Dwyane. Nobody scores on us easily.
