Makes me like the JO signing even more
Good for Danny for getting a younger, better player for less years.

Can we get someone from Houston?
Houston’s roster is pretty full. Ariza, Battier, Buddinger – can we get one of these guys. They also have a lot of big men if you include Chuck Hayes at 6-6".
works for me
I haven’t had a problem with any signings Danny has made all summer
thought Miller was too much of a risk given his decline

It`s official...
Free agents now view us as being “radioactive”!
We`re yesterday`s news.
How?
Unless Boston could have gotten him in a side and trade (most likely with Sheed’s contract), then the Celtics could have only offered him the Veterans minimum which is closer to $1.2M for the 1st year and less than $5M for 3 years, I believe.
It`s Danny`s job to figure out how...
That`s why they pay him.
In the meantime, the Celts are shaping up to be a team that will be lucky to average 15 rebounds a game this season!
If radioactive means we aren't offering market value, then you may be right.

Probably...
But, I`m not seeing any desire to come here either.
Daniels had that desire a year ago. I`m sensing the feeling among free agents is that Boston`s championship window is a thing of the past.
Telepathy? Tea leaves?
How exactly are you ‘sensing’ this?
While we still had the MLE to use, we had a lot of interest. JO clearly chose us as as better option than Denver or Dallas.
Once that was gone, players are naturally looking at teams where they can get the most $$ for their services. Teams that are either well under the cap or still have the MLE to use. Once the remaining big cash dries up, and everybody is fighting for minimums, the Celtics will look very attractive again.
We can still pay someone decent money using a trade of Sheed’s contract – but that is more complex to deal and may not happen until much later – maybe even after the season starts.
The beauty about that tool is that it potentially could still land us a player who right now is going to another team based on their ability to actually pay that guy. I.E. – S&T transactions have a longer open window on acquiring interesting players than pure free agency. Hopefully Danny will work out something useful. But we may have to be patient.
But we may have to be patient
Timing is key. Our future trading partner may need to round out their roster by signing a free agent or two. Once that step is complete, that team can identify the redundant player(s) and then approach us for a trade for Sheed.

Nope!
Free agents just want to get the most money and they know we can’t offer it. Danny needs to pull off a sweet trade with someone using Sheed’s contract. The Rockets look as good as anyone else.
O'Neal backing up O'Neal?
Allow myself to introduce myself………
BBD is still the back up center...beautiful.
Is Greg Kite available?
Brad Miller wasnt t answer
And it’s only a couple weeks into free agency. I have faith in Ainge. He has a great track record. He’s doing the right thing right now IMO. Guys are jumping at $$. He’ll wait it out and make the right moves.

Joeb...Even Paul Pierce thinks DA isnt doing enough.
Paul Pierce has voiced his concern for the lack of acquisitions….Need I (or the Captian) say more?
You read his comments...
… and it seems like Houston would’ve been Miller’s pick all along. I really wouldn’t be that broken up about it. We seem to get as good a center as we could get; it’s just that we need another one to back up O’Neal for about 10-15 min.
But I am a bit worried that we’ll only have Sheed’s contract (if at all) to dangle for either a nice wing or a nice big — certainly can’t get both.
Ainge has a tough choice, Pierce’s concerns or not.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Quisey back
He was pretty damn good before the thumb injury and then lost his spot in the rotation, and confidence, when Tony was playing well. Wouldn’t mind having him back at all. Not sure he wants to though.

Quisey, not enough consistancy
He did have some good games before the injury, but overall his ofensive game is suspect. He gets to the hoop pretty well. He just needs a jump shot that compliments his game. Defensively, he’s good enought. Just not good enough to overcome his offensive liabilities. I’d prefer to find someone who can put it in the hole.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha, just kidding. We didn’t have enough $, and I think JO will do more than Miller this year.
Even the Truth says this team is in trouble.
Does the captain lie? Has DA really done enough?
PP and all of them can easily see we don't have enough to compete against Mia
We need a wing and back up to JO and they can’t just be crap back ups. One by one guys go off the board and the pickings get slimmer
are we really going to sacrifice a championship with this core to say hold on to a first round pick next year??
Our best shot might be having Sheed return and signing McGrady to the vet min and praying everyone stays or gets healthy. Not having much faith DA can work some magic with a sign and trade
Quis
Agree with joeb that Quis was effective when he was healthy-everyone on this site assumes that he’s a goner but I think reports of his demise could well be premature-especially given our obvious lack of depth at the 2/3. Thoughts?

oh
And yes I’m very pleased that we got JO and not Miller-big difference and one that goes in our favor

Much as I would have loved to get Miller
Getting a Center was the top priority. If JO’s knees hold up, this will end up as a great pickup.
Picking the groceries
I don’t think Ainge has ever really prioritized getting a big time back up wing, Shane Battier, for example, in the last few years. It could be that he views other areas more important and ends up filling in at that spot towards the end of his shopping (Posey in 07, nobody in 08, Quis in 09). He very well may be targeting a big we don’t realize with Sheed’s contract and will fill in a wing at the end (Butler, Wright, Quis again).
I think that DA has simply placed getting a Center at a *higher* priority.
Which is natural, given Perk’s injury and Sheed’s retirement.
That doesn’t mean he doesn’t prioritize getting a 2/3.
Bring back Powe!
Or if were really desperate. And I mean REALLY desperate, I’m sure Mikki Moore would wanna come back and get a 2nd chance..

DA's centers
seems like DA has problems when it comes to getting back up bigs: pollard, sebastian, pob, shelden….. either they are injury prone or ineffective or undersized: powe, bbd…. we ere lucky the Cs got pj for the playoffs in 08. i think pierce is concerned about who will back him and RA : avery is defense oriented but an undersized tweener, nate? nah. the Cs must search for wings with size to help stop wade and lebron, kobe and artest, when the starters get tired or in foul trouble. but i know danny is aware of these things.
Didn't say Danny doesn't want a wing
just said that he may well want to use his remaining chip on a big instead. Big’s cost more in general so anybody decent we can get will cost us Sheed’s contract. The wing can be picked up using the vet minimum. Rashoul Butler will be a steal if we can get him at the vet minimum.
