Around SBN: Following UFC 146 Loss, Jason 'Mayhem' Miller 'Done' in UFC

Everyone wants to be the GM

It seems like any player who isn't under a contract is now picked by at least one of our members here as just what we need. "Get Him At All Costs". "Here's how we trade/connive/useSheed/futuredraftpick/whatever we can to get this jewel".  Bah Humbug (and it's not even close to Xmas yet)!

Let's just assume we all know who the starting five are, so lets make another five with what we already have or can have very easily:

C - Erden    PF - Baby  SG Bradley  PG Robinson.

SF - I know everyone here except me knows that Hargodly cannot play SF. Well, errrr, he would be a very good rebounder as a SF. And , yes he can shoot good and from distance but........He won't be able to play great defense. (I really don't care about his defense, he won't be playing against Wade, Kobe etc etc etc, he will be against the other teams 2nd stringers). But Wait (as the television  sales commercials say), we've still got Gaffney, who is supposed to be a excellent defender. But he can't shoot! Who Cares? While above I referred to this unit as a fiver, in real life, it wont be, so if Gaffney is in, either PP (at PF) or Ray would be available.

Hmmm, this still leaves us with a 'free' Layfayette, our third string PG, needed if either Rondo or Nate go down.

How many is that? Ah 12, the magic number required for a team. But Wait (I love that) we still have 3 spots open....errrr No, we are carrying Perk for the season, hoping he can help us in the playoffs. Ok 2 spots. Well we could use a cheap enforcer/rebounder. How about Artis Balurian from our summer league team? Sure!  Cheap and can bound and shoot a little. Still have one spot. Lets save it in case a 'good deal' pops up later.

There, we've covered all the spots, spent almost nada and still have the Sheed option open, either as a player or a trading card if needed to close that 'good deal'.

Now in Real Life, stands back with head bowed, waiting for the torrent of ridicule, sneers and shouts of 'Ban that idiot from this board' that are sure to come  - well maybe mmmmm might give me a bit of support.

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

We HOPE Bradley can make it as a PG. He was a SG in college from all I’ve read. The C’s are gonna see if he can convert.

Dip-
I think you have embarked upon a healthy exercise—What do we have? A couple of points, your 2nd five is indeed what we have (as opposed to or what we can have very easily) since Erden, Baby, Gaffney (don’t think Harangody is officially signed yet), Bradley, and Nate are under contract. Your 15th slot you want to leave open is taken by Sheed if you want to preserve that option. I love the idea of having Art developing with Clifford Ray but I have a real problem with counting on Erden playing major minutes if Perk doesn’t make it back this year. Actually I pretty good with what we have. . . until I remember that several teams made large advances this off season and we have only managed to tread water.

Sadly, I am very shaky about Perk returning, or if he does, being effective. Again, from all I’ve read, he REALLY tore things up and I doubt seven to ten months will be enough.

Perk

Perk should be back by postseason, but would only find his form in the following season.

Agree...

Erden will not factor this season in any significant way. Perkins will be out until March 1st! Trust me. When he comes back we are crazy to play him more than 20 minutes a game. Consider Perk an 18-20 min front line sub for the last 25 games of the regular season + the playoffs.
Quis is now signed and although I know there is a much commented post on that. It was a smart risk free move. No cap implications, 1 year deal so little if any risk, nothing but upside considering his previous surgury/injury and previous SOLID stats pre Celt’s.

I wouldn’t bet any significant minutes on any rookies/ Gaffney/Lafayette other than Avery who may get 10-14 min/night.

Now that Quisy is signed Sheed’s contract HAS to be turned into more front line depth and hopefully a veteran wing who is versataille.

Shaq time!

I think we do not have a choice but to sign Shaq. We will not have what we need to compete with the other top teams unless we sign him. JO and Perk are already dinged and likely to be out of action when we need them most.
