ESPN's Broussard reports Lebron to Heat

The latest and greatest "Decision" information from Chris Broussard's twitter feed:

Sources with knowledge of the situation indeed saying LeBron will join Wade and Bosh in Miami, barring a late change of heart.

ESPN's Bottom Line is also absolutely spamming the news, so it's safe to say this is a shade more reliable than OchoCinco tweet and other baseless speculation earlier today.

who cares?

yes, Miami will be a good team, most likely, but they’ll have zero money to spend despite needing to fill out 8 or 9 more roster spots. bring it on.

by rocknrollforyoursoul on Jul 8, 2010 1:58 AM EDT reply actions

im sure a LOT of players would take paycuts to play with this team.

by clawlin on Jul 8, 2010 3:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Don't be so sure of that.

They’ll need 7-8 decent players to have a rotation deep enough to withstand the usual injuries and fill the rest up with their 3 2nd rounders. They’d have an MLE and a BAE (probably), then its 5-6 vet min players. That usually for older guys hanging around and other vets who weren’t that good to begin with. Chalmers is no starter so they a 1 and 5 to start and then 2-5 for backups. And they’ll be competing against a lot of teams offering more $ including some other contenders like the Cs.

No MLE for Miami

And I dont think they get the BAE either. You have to be over the cap to get those and they are currently well Under the cap. So if they do get LBJ….it’s minimum contracts for this year or signing their Bird rights’ players. Next year they would get the MLE & BAE but we’ll be in the middle of a lock out and all that could change.

by IowaGuy on Jul 8, 2010 8:36 AM EDT up reply actions

NO..NO..NO!!

I do NOT want to help Miami get any extra money under the cap to sign a player that will help them. The other 29 teams should just refuse to trade for Beasley in protest.

i dont believe this rumor

because think of what it would mean for a second. It would mean that Lebron needed not ONE allstar companion to make it to the promise land but TWO allstars in their PRIME. His ego cant stomach that, i find this very unlikely as it would cement him behind Kobe and Jordan, for Bron Bron its not about money and its not about championships its about his “Legacy” and sharing it with two other STARS seems very suspect to me.

by Jason MacLeod on Jul 8, 2010 2:12 AM EDT reply actions

its guna get tarnished jason

i rlly think its official tune into espnradio.com but WOW! im in shock right now ;ebron sold himself short for rings i guess he never had the “it” factor kobe and jordan had after all

by stylo617617 on Jul 8, 2010 2:17 AM EDT up reply actions

regardless of anything there will always be something tarnishing everyone’s “legacy.”

Jordan never won without Pippen. Kobe had a whole lot of help.

All we can do is sit back and watch.

by clawlin on Jul 8, 2010 3:04 AM EDT up reply actions

Come on

You don’t take Bosh over Lebron. At best, Bosh is Lebron and D-Wade’s Pippen.

Now, on that note, D-Wade is a different story, and it’s clear he’ll be considered the man by Heat fans in Miami and maybe even the other players in the locker room, even if the rest of the nation may or may not feel that way.

by Tai on Jul 8, 2010 10:37 AM EDT up reply actions

well this beats the Malone/Payton signing

…remember when the Lakers tried piecing together an all NBA squad? This has a much greater shot at success mind you but im still very cynical that this will happen.

by Jason MacLeod on Jul 8, 2010 2:21 AM EDT reply actions

anything that prevents the lakers from winning again gains my approval.

by clawlin on Jul 8, 2010 3:04 AM EDT up reply actions

that's exactly what I was thinking

If we are not going to win it, then as long as the lakers don’t win it then I’m happy. This should end Kobe’s title run. If we can make sure the lakers don’t three-peat this year and tie our 17 titles, and kobe doesn’t tie jordan’s six, then were ok.

by hpantazo on Jul 8, 2010 10:54 AM EDT up reply actions

no the 2 year lockout starting next year will do a good job with that, Miami will go bankrupt after the lockout after spending all this obnoxious money and Brony Fraud will be out of a job

I guess there's still only one basketball...

But, still. Defending all three of those guys at once sounds like a nightmare. How much depth will they really need? Not to overreact, but maybe this offseason was a good time for the C’s to tear down the team and start over.

How long will it take everyone on the roster to figure out Wade is the real star of this team? He has that relentless winning gene—he killed himself trying to beat us in the first round—and of those three he thrives the most with the ball in his hands. Does James understand all that? Eric Spoelstra seems like a nice coach and all but doesn’t Pat Riley have to come coach this thing?

I hate to root for infighting… but I’m rooting for infighting. As Jason M reminds us, it worked in 2004.

this league is a travesty

i kind of knew it already. it’s difficult for any fan to reallly cheer for his team when something like this happens. the inmates are running the asylum. the NBA as of today is just one crazy place. if true, lebron james will be the subject of the most derogatory sports essays ever. if true, he deserts his own people in ohio. he deserves the worst in life and not the best if this is his chacter. he is now the largest object of hate on the planet of sports celebrities.

by gustusias on Jul 8, 2010 3:31 AM EDT reply actions

Deserts his own people?

Buddy, it’s one thing if you hate the one-hour special about him, cause that’s over the top for SURE. Still, that doesn’t chnage the fact that he’s not winning a championship with what’s up in Cleveland. No stars wanted to come with him. Boozer’s in Chicago, alongside Rose and Noah. New York has Amare. Miami, of course, has D-Wade and Bosh, and we know that Bosh turned down Cleveland. If I’m a Cavs fan, I gave up on Lebron staying then.

If Lebron really wants to win a ring, even if that means teaming up with D-Wade and Bosh in Miami, he’s not going back to Cleveland, especially if you believe the report that he worries about if he goes back to Cleveland, he could end up being “31 years old, with bad knees, and no title.” If that report’s true, you basically got Lebron’s opinion on Cleveland’s roster.

I dunno, when you think of it like that, saying he “deserted” anyone is putting it a little thickly.

LBJ...

your logical choice is NYK

Nets,Cavs, and Clippers does not have strong enough supporting cast

Bulls has a MJ statue outside the arena

If you go to Heat guess what… Wade will always has one more than you, and it’ll be “LBJ join Wade so he can win rings” for the rest of your life

I’m not a NYK fan, I can care less about NY. But it make sense for LBJ. Go there win a couple rings after 2013 ( Because ‘11,’12 are going to Boston ,baby !) You will have your own statue outside the most famous arena.

Makes too much sense not to go there.

Agree with Falcon J on NYK

I’m certainly not a Knick fan, but if I were Lebron, I’d go there for by far the most money (endorsements) and getting the most publicity from the New York press. (who ever reads the Miami paper). As someone said, ’there’s only one ball’, let Lebron shoot all he wants, let Bosh shoot when Lebron is on the bench ……but don’t let Wade shoot, he’s a killer. BTW, I’ve only seen Bosh play a few games on TV, and perhaps they were his ‘bad days’, but I really wasn’t all that impressed. And his numbers mean nada, especially when a guy is playing on a bad team (lots of garbage time and SOMEONE has to get lots of shots).

On the other side of the of the coin, I’d go to Miami because of no income tax, year round warm weather and testosterone needs.

I guess the only good thing that can come from this is the Lakers won’t be winning any more titles, as no one will be for a while.

To all of you trashing Lebron...

over this rumor – you really just sound like jealous homers. That might be a bit harsh, but seriously, for 3 superstars to take less money to play with their friends and a real chance to WIN is admirable. The reason why superstars don’t do this more often is because of money. This whole nonsense about him not having the killer instinct of Jordan or Kobe is ridiculous. Did Kobe demand that the Gasol trade be shot down because they were giving up nothing in return? Yeah right. He wanted to win and so does Lebron. Sold himself short for rings? I’ve never heard that comment at any time in any sport. It’s all about winning isn’t it? Lebron just watched Kobe shoot 6-24 in the finals and did he garner any criticism? NO – in fact, he was named MVP. Why didn’t it matter? Because they won. Compare that to the constant heat Lebron took after his poor Game 5 vs the C’s: Bloggers, ESPN personalities, newspapers – constant criticism at every turn.

KG was 10x the player in Minnesota (admitted exaggeration) but did he sell himself short by joining two hall of famers? Remember, we tried to get a 4th the same year (Reggie Miller). KG himself admitted that he waited too long and that he wished he would have moved on earlier. Yes, I’ve been a die-hard, nothing-but-Celtics fan my entire life. Yes, I can’t stand Lebron and his prima donna ways, but YES – you naysayers are haters. Nothing more, nothing less.

So why take the time to defend this? They haven’t won anything. We have a proven, cohesive team. You can go ahead and sign over the next 5 ships over to Lebron, but be reminded that you are again joining the crowd. ESPN has been doing that for the last 2 years anyway.

Our chance of coming out of the East

James joining Wade and Bosh in Miami will mean a serious blow to our chance of winning next season. If we can’t win, then maybe we should start rebuilding instead of keeping the core together. Did the Celtics jump the gun in reaching deals with PP and Ray?

by getthat18now on Jul 8, 2010 7:43 AM EDT reply actions

This may not be the end for us

Our window of opportunity is 1, maybe, 2 years. After that we will be in rebuilding mode. It is entirely possible that it may take Miami a year or 2 to assemble a team around their 3 super-stars. This seems to allow us 1 last chance to win with this group. Maybe.

I still don’t think this is happening, but say it does, it would have been a good season to still have Tibs.

Now, all of a sudden, the Avery Bradley pick makes a ton of sense. Resign Tony Allen and I think we can still match up with them defensively. And that team will wear down when Lebron, Bosh and Wade are expected to play 45 min a game.

Broussard

The way ESPN is reporting it on the Bottom Line makes it seem like a done deal. After watching Broussard actually explain it himself, he said that it’s far from a done deal and Miami is merely the favorite.

by Jon on Jul 8, 2010 9:15 AM EDT reply actions

Agreed on the last sentence....

But him simply being the favorite is ten times more different from a few days ago. It seemed like the Bulls too, when you considered D-Wade possibly going to Chicago to be closer to his ex-wife and kids because of that dispute, and thus Lebron following.

by Tai on Jul 8, 2010 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions

How does LeBron/D-Wade actually work on the court?

I feel like this is a minor detail that no one has addressed: how do these two guys actualy play together on the court? KG/PP/Ray worked because you had three guys who play very different and complementary games. LBJ and D-Wade’s listed positions are different, but they play essentially the same role on the court. Any ideas as to how this actually works? Is there any precedent for two guys who play such a similar game teaming up like this (All Star Games aside…). And who gets the last shot in close games.

Maybe I’m being dense and of you put two players of that caliber on the floor it just works out. But this isn’t street ball – you’ve got to have all five positions working together of you’re going to pick up your rings, no?

by GreenInNYC on Jul 8, 2010 9:20 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

how doesn't it work?

they all played pretty darn well together for the US team. they’ve played in a bunch of all star games together. what is so difficult about them playing together? i think you are in denial or something.

by MetroGlobe on Jul 8, 2010 10:11 AM EDT up reply actions

But with the cap issues

they won’t have all-stars around them. It’s going to be Wade/Bosh/LBJ and a bunch of players who couldn’t make the second squad at Miami-Dade Community College.

Is D-Wade’s lone jumper enough to spread the floor and keep their big three from getting in each other’s ways? And Wade and LeBron are great individual defenders, but as a team there’s the potential for lots of defensive liabilities.

Listen – the prospect of those three guys on the floor together is crazy scary. But impossible to stop as a team? I’ll believe it when I see it.

by GreenInNYC on Jul 8, 2010 11:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Yes but...

If Wade can single handedly drag his team to a win, and Bosh can singlehandedly drag his team to a win, and Lebron can do the same… Wouldn’t that mean that together with their superb passing skills and outside shooting/lane driving they should be able to win any game they all 3 set their hearts on. I would think so. You can’t double team all 3 of them.

by kershaw_equals_stud on Jul 8, 2010 9:29 AM EDT reply actions

Pack the paint

and make them shoot jumpers. They don’t have any real shooting threats to stretch the floor. Rebound all the bricks LBJ throws up and your fine. Then attack them in the paint at the other end….is Bosh really that scary on that end?

by IowaGuy on Jul 8, 2010 9:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Less than 12 hours remaining

It wouldn’t surprise me if this leak was an intentional misdirection – but I will say that LeBron playing point forward is the likely scenario, so they just need someone to defend PGs and they’re set – as much as can be with no bench or centers whatsoever

by nba is the worst on Jul 8, 2010 9:51 AM EDT reply actions

One good thing....

Maybe now the refs won’t let LBJ get every call as he bulls his way to the rim…..

Hmmm

In this DimeMag interview, 3/5 experts agree it’s the Knicks:
McCallum: Yeah, just based on him making all of these plans and stuff. I mean ESPNU called me about announcing on the network, and I knew well before I was set to announce.

Smith: Definitely.

So where is LeBron headed?

Irving: I’m gonna say New York.

Selby: I’m gonna say either Chicago or Miami because he wants to win and that gives him the best chance to do so.

Harrow: New York. Great environment and he’s got Amar’e Stoudemire there now.

McCallum: Well, I remember LeBron said once before that he wanted to change his number from 23 out of respect for Michael Jordan. See that makes me think he may have known something beforehand and that means it’s Chicago. But my guess is Cleveland. I think he’s going to stay home.

Smith: The Knicks. He wants to win a championship and that’s one of the best places to do that.
(yes, I feel like a Trident commercial)

However, we won’t know until he says so. So I’ll be watching the live stream:

If he decides too play with d.wade an chris bosh then there’s no denying it that that team will win. But I don’t like the fact that’s he’s going too be playing with 2 superstars! He’s better then that. Id rather see him go to the knicks or bulls.

if they do a sign and trade for bosh they lose beasley at the very least. now if all 3 guys take $2-3m less they could add another decent player and maybe they are a greta team but unlikely.

jason williams is said to be signing with them so thats a start but who plays center? who’s the bench going to consist off? they will need a bench to stay healthy, to win in the playoffs.

they have no MLE, maybe the LLE but what will that get them?

so miami signs a version of the big 3. so wade is ray. (wade doesnt shoot like ray) lebron is pierce. bosh is kg (except bosh barely plays d)… does that mean pittman is perk? lets see bosh or pittman play howard 1 vs 1!! and chalmers is rondo? ok, chalmers doesnt have multiple triple doubles, an all star game, and the rebounding and passing ability of rondo. benches will be league minimum guys and beasley. vs o’neal, TA, bradley, davis. coaches will be doc vs eric s..oh sorry eric your boss only wants to coach teams that have good players so it will be a short season for you, pat riley makes his return. i really hate pat riley. either coach or be a gm. dont gut a team and gm. then get good players and want to coach, your over rated, doc and phil are better then you!!!!

James in Miami

I dont believe in the highp about lebron james because he is all about me,me,me and now the spot light is not on him any more now he has to focus on playing as a team and not holding on to the ball as much. Now that he has two realy good players as teamates, he will lose points every game then when he was in cleveland. When he was in cleveland he had 27.5 points per game, for some teams that is wht three players make on their team. Also i believe that the new qoute on qoute big three will win their first year because bosh is not a player that has realy big games, only wade and james have big games and he has played in canada his whole caree. Wade has to play like he did when he had Shaq played there. A KEY player for a victory to have any chance at a ring
