Bits & Pieces
We're smack in that time of the summer where there are only little bits and pieces of news that pop up. Here are some of them.
Our own Jimmy Toscano previewed the upcoming season on ESPN Boston.
Boston Celtics Summer Forecast: How many wins?
I'm going to try my hardest to not "Sheed" this prediction by shooting for a 72-10 season, but I do predict the C's will finish with a better record than their 50-32 mark last season. I'll say they finish with a 57-25 record for a couple reasons... (see link for details)
Doc Rivers Washington radio interview
My biggest concern honestly coach is defensively because every time Shaq comes on the floor, everyone is going to run pick and roll and no one has been successful in figuring out how to use him and I’m no smarter than anyone else. That’s all we’ve been focusing on this summer is trying to figure out what we’re going to do in pick and rolls when he comes into the game.
Well, that's kind of concerning. I guess if Shaq doesn't work out, some will wonder if we should have just signed Kwame Bwron instead:
Kwame Brown to rejoin Michael Jordan with Charlotte Bobcats
The Boston Celtics also strongly considered signing Brown before another future Hall of Famer, Shaquille O'Neal, agreed to sign with the Celtics at the league minimum.
Or hey, I guess there's always Antoine!
Antoine Walker is still trying to play basketball
But according to his uncle Chico Walker, a former Red Sox player, "four to six teams" have expressed interest in Walker. Plus, Uncle Walker says Antoine has dropped somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 pounds working out at Louisville under former college coach Rick Pitino and is hungry to make a team.
You read that right. I can't make this stuff up. (No, the Celtics are reportedly not one of the teams interested).
Dwyer's rankings are still moving along. Pierce cracks the top 10 small forwards.

Paul's best days are clearly behind him, he can still load up and take the Celtics offense on his back for long stretches, but it's not a given, or something to be consistently relied upon.

Antoine?
vet. minimum for 1 year to play back up for Pierce? why not.
We still need a backup wing...
Antoine can play SF. I think he can still provide some good productive minutes, and for the vet. minimum it’ll be like Shaq, low risk high reward. I mean if the C’s could trade for another wing who’s much better then of course that’ll be a no brainer.
But we look at like we look at Shaq’s signing. With all the remaining available FA’s left, and ’Toine, all for vet. minimum why not pick him instead.
6’9’’ albeit now slow but can shoot outside and has good low post moves. Reports are he’s losing weight, which tells me he’s really focused to be in shape to make a comeback.
So, again the kicker is for the vet. minimum, why not?
my 2 cents.
Although i would love to see toine back in celtic green
the kicker is not the vet miniumum, i feel its a given that he will get that anywhere….the kicker is he takes up a roster space

"four to six teams" have expressed interest in Walker.
Walter McCarty told me the same thing about himself and never played again.
If Kwame Brown can get work
Nothing is impossible
Kwame Bwron? Brown*
the few, the proud, the boston celtics

Antoine is "radio-active"
At 34, Walker will never again be on the NBA radar-screen.
glad to hear Antoine isn't on the Celtics radar
Antoine is a fallout, he might be a deal for vet minimum. But I wouldn’t take chances on him.
I don’t believe he’s hungry. He’s never acted like it.
Keep up the bits and pieces Jeff
Interesting....
“……..Antoine has dropped somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 pounds working out at Louisville under former college coach Rick Pitino and is hungry to make a team.”
Exactly how hungry is he and does that mean he’ll put his weight back on once he signs a contract.
