Rondo On the Bubble/Leaving Team USA?
While it looked as though Rajon Rondo's spot on the final 12-man Team USA roster was secure a few weeks ago, he failed to find the court against Spain on Saturday, as head coach Mike Krzyzewski elected to go with Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook instead. That DNP might be a sign that his immediate future with Team USA is now in doubt.
Rajon Rondo thinks he's on the bubble - ESPN Boston
Somebody is going to get cut from Team USA after Wednesday night's exhibition game against Greece, and Rajon Rondo has no illusions about where he stands.
"I think I'm on the bubble," Rondo said Tuesday. "Just looking at the obvious -- I got a DNP last game. That pretty much speaks for itself."
**UPDATE**
Apparently Rondo is leaving Team USA voluntarily to deal with family matters he stated he needed to handle before the season started. Link

Yup
Shooting will ALWAYS be Rondo’s downfall.
ALWAYS?
How do you know, please provide me with tonight’s winning lottery numbers…thank you.
.
Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk
Jason Kidd can?
And as pointed out below is undefeated in world competition
Jason Kidd also less efficient scoring
These rondo hates who can focus on nothing other then him not being a good jump shooter make me want to jump off a bridge
major difference
the biggest difference is that Kidd never stopped taking the ball to the hole for fear of having to shoot free throws, or never passed up open jumpers to the point of killing the offense. Rondo doesn’t have to become Ray Allen, he just has to have more confidence in his shot so that it doesn’t hurt the team offense.
Not sure whether a cut would motivate Rondo in a positive way, or bum him out in a bad way…

I guess the circumstances which wouldn't "permit" everyone getting PT
are if the game is close. Might be best for the Celtics if he’s cut anyway.

Good
I like Rondo with a chip on his shoulder. And well rested.
My Feeling Exactly
I’m glad he’s off the roster.
Rondo's game, itself, isn't really the problem
The composition of the US roster is the larger problem. The collective talents of the majority of the players on the US roster don’t seem to suit each other well. Rondo’s game is well suited for international play, but not for this paticular team. Rondo needs shooters around him to maximize his talents. Most of the players on this roster are not that great of shooters.
Watching a few of the games, there seemed to be very little flow on offense. The ball was constantly stopping in players hands, leading to poor shot selection with the shot clock running down. This was a problem regardless of who was on the court, although to me at least, it seemed with Rondo on the court the ball did move a little better.
The US would have been better off to have put together a collection of players whose games complimented each other better. Instead, they decided to just take the best available players. This type of decision in regards to roster composition is why the US has failed in a number of past international competitions. While our top tier talent is good enough to win, our 2nd tier talent is not good enough on its own to beat the other top teams. We need a unit that is more cohesive, even if it means taking a few lesser talented role players over all-stars who are redundant.
My take on his DNP-CD is that RR already made the team and....
….they were trying decide between Westbrook and Curry, so Spain was maybe the final exam for those two.
have a hard time seeing them dump RR, given his leadership, with Durant even relying on him for advice. Just my take.
I'm a dope, I'm a dope, I'm a dope.......^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Boy, do I hate self-flagellation, particularly when warranted!!!!

bad move
they are getting fooled if they think westbrook’s recent hot shooting is indicative of how he shoots …
Rondo is the best overall pg on this team and quite frankly needs to start for the US to attain gold.
I will cheer against the US if he is cut. Is that weird?
Totally agree
Westbrook is nowhere near as good as Rondo and frankly I think, Rose is very overrated and he also cant shoot. Rondo is going to come out with a chip on his shoulder ready to kick everyone’s ass.
Ehm, hes not cut yet
And he couldve gotten a DNP for many other reasons
Coach K knows hes gonna make the team and is giving him a rest due to playing deep into the NBA season? doesnt wanna show spain his best defending PG? why would he go from starting to the one being cut? there have been little to no idication hes the one to go
So wait
Mike K clearly said they already knew what they had in Rondo and Granger as a reason for them not playing Sunday, and wanted to see what the rest of the guys were about. I even heard somewhere that Mike K said on FRIDAY that Rondo wouldn’t play against Spain on SUNDAY.
How did that DNP suddenly turn into a sign two days later that Rondo might be on the bubble, especially considering the fact Granger, who also didn’t play, allegedly is not on the bubble?
The only thing I can worry about , if you read the article, is that Rondo apparently won’t start against Greece. Hopefully, though, he at least plays. : \
Well some of you might get your wish.

Well the announcers...
…speculated that he was already on the team and K wanted to look at other players. But I wouldn’t mind if he got cut and actually worked with a professional shooting mechanics coach for a few hours a day until the season starts.
Those of you who question whether Rajon is on the bubble may not have seen all the recent quotes from Coach K and Rondo himself. This isn’t about NFL-style mind games. Rondo may simply be cut due to the composition of the team and recent results on the court.
“It’s not so much what Rajon has to show, it’s what our team needs. We’ve found a good lineup, and the international game is so different from the NBA game, you can ask any of these guys,” Krzyzewski said. "Part of it is to make sure that we try not to have two non-shooters out on the court, and there’s the physicality, too.
“I think I’m on the bubble,” Rondo said Tuesday. “Just looking at the obvious — I got a DNP last game. That pretty much speaks for itself.”

Good if it's true, but not for the reason you think
I hope Rondo gets cut, but not for the injury perspective. He’ll have a massive chip on his shoulder next year and be out to prove the doubters wrong. Nothing bad about that from the Celtics perspective.
Either reason is fine by me.
Stop wasting your time, Rajon.

Well, I was kinda bummed out when he did not play against Spain but if coach K doesn’t feel that Rondo is not what the team needs, I am cool with that. I will still watch just to see Durant’s growth and Steph Curry seeing as I want them on my fantasy team. Might give Rondo lil’ chip on his shoulder and he will go in and work on his shooting mechanics and confidence. I think if he gets cut he will go out to prove that he is the best PG in the league.
UPDATE: Rondo opts out of Team USA

-"The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese."
"It's my experience, no experience is a bad one."
To Summarize
"Rajon came to us and said he was going to withdraw from the team, that he had some family matters to attend to and some things to take care of before the NBA season. He did an outstanding job during our training, we appreciate the effort and commitment he made to our program and he completely has our support," said Colangelo.
-"The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese."
"It's my experience, no experience is a bad one."
He opted out because he knew he was going to be cut.
It’s obvious from his statements the other day.
How did he know he was gonna be cut?
Don’t make things up, please.
A few posts above yours is this quote from Rondo:
"I think I’m on the bubble," Rondo said Tuesday. "Just looking at the obvious — I got a DNP last game. That pretty much speaks for itself."
This says to me that the “family” thing is just to save face. I don’t care anyway. More time to work on his shooting.
Thats what I was thinking...
I do think Rondo has a fairly large ego and the thought of either being cut or sitting at the end of the bench probably did not sit well with him. I like to think the best of our beloved Celtic players but is Rondo being a sore loser?
Just a thought.
-"The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese."
"It's my experience, no experience is a bad one."
Ok...
Rondo has a large ego? For sure.
But I dunno how that means he simply withdraws just cause he couldn’t handle being cut. That’s probably what some guys will claim, but that’s honestly just speculation.
Personally, I don’t Coach K would’ve spoke so highly of Rondo if he planned to cut him. I know people want to paint us the picture “think Rondo and his guard playing off him in international play” and then go on to say “Well obviously Coach K finally saw that as a problem and Rondo saw the writing on the wall”, but again, that’s just speculation to fit their argument.
Hey, we’ll all forget this if Rondo does improve his shooting for the NBA season, right? : p
Thank You
Now get real mad and work on your free throws. You’ve got a long season coming up.

It's already the end of August
who much time do you guys really think he has left to work on his shooting? The summer is gone, at least he could have said he played for the U.S. national team at the end of it, but that’s over now too.
Asking Rondo to have a better jumper and FT
shooting %s is like asking the Phoenix Suns to play defense. It takes time and it might or might not happen.
the whole "family" excuse can't have much merit
given the circumstances and timing of his announcement
Greece for me, then
I’m from Europe and i was cheering for team USA because of Rajon. Now, go Greece! :)
I think this poor decision of team USA will make Rajon further motivated to prove himself in the next season.
Rondo withdrew...
…read the article I posted, please. : \
Rondo shud rest mentally ,take care of his family ,work on free throws a lot during traning camp and thru out practices and games thru this 82 season, the only ppl that are really guna benfit from camp is shaq,j.o,nate, wafer so I see him focusuing on that a lot from now on

now people are going to give him a new nickname
rondo withdrawl that means quiting right?? so i have a bad feeling that rondo new nickname is " Lil lebron" cause lebron is a quiter
Yea, Rondo can' t shoot, thus........
I keep hearing how Rondo’s sucks because he can’t shoot. Dennis Johnson just got elected to the HOF. Rondo’s all around play, is at least on par with Dennis at that stage of his career, including his shooting.
Rondo has only played 4 seasons in the NBA
and folks think that already defines who he is as a player.
Worse -they place expectations on what he “must” have in order to be who they think a PG should be.
When I look at all the various stats and the style of game play, Rondo most closely resembles Gary Payton. Through 4 seasons, The Glove was a worse 3PT shooter and about the same overall as a FT shooter as Rondo (he was actually more erratic year-to-year).
I think its safe to say that Payton ended up with a pretty decent career.
And nothing is set in stone. RR’s new team-mates present contrasts. Shaq was and is a lousy FT shooter. Jermaine O’Neal was a worse FT shooter than either Shaq or Rondo – but became a very good FT shooter and still is.
