30Q: How Would You Grade Danny's Offseason?
Technically it isn't over yet, and time will tell how well he did, but I'd like to hear your thoughts in general on Danny Ainge's offseason.
Also, as a bonus question: what do you think he'll try to do with the roster during the season?

not bad
once he decided to keep Ray,he shot ALL his money into a full mid-level on JO…that is his baby for this off-season…after that it was resign who we can and add experienced bodies…he did that but Jermaine will be his measuring stick
we beat the Heat by hanging with our starting 5 and throwing bodies at them the rest of the time…Time will tell….B grade so far
to your 2nd point-Danny has a ton of ending contracts and come the Feb deadline can be very active…and usually is
I agree on JO
I was very surprised when the signing happened – and if he has similar injury problems to lkast year it will be a problem…
I wonder what the 5 people who voted “D or F” were thinking should have happened – Wade and Bosh?

Give him a B....PPs backup?
I think we need a reliable backup for P. Not sure MDaniels/ Waffer are up to the task, but all things considered, DA did very well.
That's my thought...
I guess we lost Tony, but TA seemed to want to move on (and probably was overrated, anyway). Delonte and Wafer should make up for the loss.

A+ Considering
His back was against the wall. He delivered a competitor without mortgaging future options. I’m really not sure how he pulled it off. If I was a fan of another team, I think I’d be jealous. Esp. the Shaq and West signings.
Quite agree
Not thrilled about JO for the money he got or Wafer, and while Quisy was terrific before injury, everyone here and PP too has little condidence in the man, still overall the pieces he brought in for the money promised, not all even guaranteed! Deserves an A+, no GM has done better with 11 open roster spots and little room to manuver. He still even has options as these contracts are totally tradeable.

A
Wasn’t thrilled initially with the JO and Wafer signings, but then Danny seemed to pull Shaq and West out of thin air for peanuts.
gave a D
THE 7TH GAME SHOULD HAVE DICTATED A PAY CUT which would alliowed real talent on their team --bosc, carmelo, paul shaq—good———5 minute no points allowed lakers to win——real sad…
I'm not understanding you...
Danny couldn’t have signed all of those players under the salary cap. Pierce and Ray took very big paycuts, and he got Shaq to sign for a minimum deal.

BECAUSE how the 7th game actually played out
I think Danny had a great off-season.
He addressed our two biggest issues; Rebounding and Scoring droughts. A couple more boards and a couple more points and the results last June 17th would have been different.
I am blowing you a raspberry right now.

There's no way he could have gotten any of those guys
Except Shaq, who he got….

A+
JO? Snaq for the vetmin? Drafting Bradley and Harangody? Getting best available coach to replace Thibs?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Unreal offseason.

Answer to 2nd question about moves during season
Nate
Quisy
Wafer
West
Erden
all have moveable contracts
assuming wafer learns the D enough to beat out Gaffney and earn a spot.
I highly doubt West is going anywhere, i feel he will play the 6 roll, especially for the bargain price, it would have to be hell of a deal to move him
but you put Nate and Quisys contracts or Nate, Wafer and Erdens contracts together and you can take back a midlevel player, hell you do a 3 for 1 you can then still take on a Gaffney or a Sheed as insurance
dont get me wrong i am happy with the roster as it is, just saying he has options

gets an A
When this topic was raised back in July, I gave him a D for what had been accomplished to that point. Now, I’ll give him an A. JO, Shaq, Wafer, West to shore up the bench. Resigned Quisy as a back up 3 (when he’s healthy). Incredible haul of talent considering all he had was the MLE and vet min contracts to dole out. Only thing that could have gone better is if he moved Sheed’s contract for a really good back up SF or at least for a cap exception to be used at a later date. If that’s the worst thing I can come up with, Danny’s done a very solid job.
Solid B
Resigning Allen + Pierce was Vital for this team, Kevin Garnett is massively overpaid, and I would look to trade him before he becomes completley useless with his injuries, sure I like KG but I would look to move him for someone else.
Jermaine O’Neal will be a nice addition, even though he had a Shocker in the Playoffs against us, and with another O’Neal coming on board for a very cheap price, I take my hat off to Danny Ainge
Doc Rivers returning and returning with Allen + Pierce is a massive plus for this team, sure Tom Thibedou left, but Lawrence Frank is more of a capable replacement to fill his place.
Other Offseason moves include:
Luke Harangody – very nice player in the Summer League, will only get better
Semih Erden – another big body + he is 7’0 which helps, a keeper for sure
Avery Bradley – Atheltic + instant offence, will be good to watch him when he returns from injury.
Von Wafer – again very atheltic and can play the 2 or the 3, a steal for the price
Delonte West – the jury is out, but hey everyone deserves a 2nd chance imo
Please dont go off on the KG trade idea, I was only saying thats all, It would be better after next season to try and move KG if not before the Feb trade deadline.
Solid Offseason B
2nd in the East
Don't forget re-signing Nate Robinson! Dude is a 1st-round talent.
He seems to be forgotten here. I think the trade for him is DECIDEDLY in the Celts favor. We gave up a nice player, sure, but not a starter or even a 6th man. Nate is a first-guard-off-the-bench kind of player that can impact a game not just with three point shooting.
This was a huge re-signing. The C’s now have a player worth even more in another trade, or a great energy guy off the bench in Nate.

Except for completely misplaying the TA situation, Danny has done everything right.

vey good except for losing ta and keeping the bum, daniels. he hurts this team. i really like getting d west. if his head is on straight, he can really help. good shooter and can drive to the bucket and dunk on people!
When you answer 90% of the questions on the exam correctly you get an A.
Danny made pretty much every move he was able to make. He answered all but one need (SF bench depth – and even there we are arguably no worse off than last year).
And if the job’s goal is to field a contender without mortgaging the future – Danny definitely did that.
