West Trade On Hold, Lots Of Other Stuff Happening
Everything is up in the air right now, but here's the latest as far as we know.
Pacers ready to swoop in if Celtics can't land West - NBA - Yahoo! Sports
As free-agent forward David West and the Boston Celtics work to complete a difficult sign-and-trade deal, the Indiana Pacers have positioned themselves to sign the power forward should talks with the Celtics flatline on Sunday, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Celtics have been discussing a four-year deal with West, sources said. Still, Boston is limited under sign-and-trade rules with how high it can go with an offer. The Celtics can offer the first three years in the $24 million to $25 million range, but the fourth year would likely not be fully guaranteed. Several sources believed there would be a resolution Sunday.

Three-team Chris Paul trade is dead; Lakers now in hunt for Dwight Howard
Time to start all over again, from scratch. Chris Paul to the Clippers? Chris Paul to Golden State? Dwight Howard to the Lakers? Dwight Howard to the Bulls? Yep, those rumors are all out there this morning after the three-team deal between the Lakers, Hornets and Rockets fell apart late Saturday night, with the Lakers making a different deal by sending Lamar Odom to the Mavericks for a first-round draft pick.
More updates as they become available.

I bet
This is the craziest offseason I am seeing in my life, and I doubt that there would be something like this in future.
THIS IS CRAZY
dont book it
next year with basically all our players leaving, its going to be amazing.
Can Chris Paul sue?
I don’t understand how he is able to sue the Nba when he is under contract for the NOH.
by Always Sunny Next Year on Dec 11, 2011 9:49 AM EST reply actions
I really don't think he can
At the end of the day the NBA IS the owner of the hornets. So they have the abillity to make the final call just like any owner.
Just like a play couldn’t sue Wyc for not trading him and making more money elsewhere.
It is however terribly inappropriate for the league to own a team, and it will probably never happen again.

Illegal collusion
In the lawsuit Chris would say that some of the NBA owners strongarmed the commish into vetoing the trade. Here’s a quote from an article about it.
“Just as a player like Joe Smith can’t make an under the table deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, teams can’t work together to try and control player movement involving the players on third-party players.”
The weird part is that the NBA owns the Hornets, so it’s hard to say whether or not the owners should be able to manipulate Hornets player movement. I really doubt that Chris has a case, but there is plenty of reason for the whole thing to at least be closely scrutinized.

That deal I can live with
I just don’t want them to get Howard and keep Gasol somehow.
by Aluminum Penguin on Dec 11, 2011 10:01 AM EST up reply actions
I think what they want to do now.
Is trade Gasol and Bynum for howard and clear up the cap space to get Paul next offseason.

there at like $84m even after giving odom away
they wont be able to add a max player next year.
what they can do however is add billups or arenas when they clear waivers

reading between the lines
is West holding up the Celtics for a guaranteed 4th year?
Is that the sticking point?
Everyone seems to assume that West is healthy now, and likely to stay healthy. But no one knows. So what are the odds?
Cannot base decisions on hopes and fond dreams. That leads to regrets.
Doubt it
Indiana can sign him outright, but for fewer years. His best contract offer is probably from us, but he needs to work out a trade for that to happen. It’s also in New Orleans’ best interests to work out a trade, so West doesn’t walk for nothing. I think it’ll work out for us…it’s just an issue of whether they can find a 3rd team or not. If they can’t, can’t they just agree to waive JO and pay him something, making him a FA? My guess is they’d want some other players from us…like picks.

At first, I thought the West-JO'N Sasha Pav deal had to wait until the 3-team Chris Paul trade was over.
.
The Hornets needed to be under the cap for the CP3 deal to go through (or so I read somewhere). The Celtic-Hornet deal would take the Hornets over the cap.
In the time it took for the CP3 deal to fail again, the Hornets switched up and wanted JJJ and Moore instead of Sasha Pav. JJJ isn’t signed yet, that may be part of the holdup. Dealing JJJ may give Danny cause to pause, but I dont think it would actually be a deal killer in the end.
Something else is going on. Maybe the 4th guaranteed year for West. It might also be that Danny needs to replace JJJ in some way because he had counted on his height as a backup 5 and they are trying to fit another player or team into the deal.

prefer to keep jj
his defense and rebounding will be better right away then what west does and i believe will be a better player than west.
i dont really want to rely on 3 injury prone guys either. does everyone trust daniels to stay healthy? how about JO? and west is coming off an ACL injury, no guarentee he plays well or stays healthy. i prefer to keep jj, i dont want him involved in any trade unless its for dwight and he needs to be.

who is JJ?
the rookie?
years ago, I remember someone talking about the Red Sox and saying “Never trade a horse for two ponies”
I think the Hornets can have all our ponies

my moneys on jj being better than west
id rather keep him.

Lamar Odom
The Lakers are intending on trading him. Why doesn’t Ainge lock him up if David West isnt working out
by Hamoozeh on Dec 11, 2011 10:04 AM EST via mobile reply actions
If I understand correctly, Odom's headed to Dallas already
http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/12/11/lakers-pull-out-of-paul-hunt/#?ls=iref:nbahpt2
“Odom would be placed into the new traded player exception the Mavericks received earlier”
https://twitter.com/#!/WojYahooNBA:
Lakers had offered Lamar Odom to teams with salary cap space, one GM says. “He wanted out and they really wanted to reduce the tax bill.”
where are you reading that?

bottom box of this article, mentioned as a rumor that is out there. I doubt there is any substance to it, but still it is a scary thought.
I'd prefer the Bulls to the Lakers
But it’s hard to see how the Bulls trump LA’s best offer unless Orlando is concerned about Bynum’s knees.
LA sending Odom to Dallas ...
is interesting in that it helps make there rival the Mavs stronger and better I think considering they just recently loss Chandler.
That move could and I hope come back to haunt LA possibly.
Getting a trade exception
My guess is, they’re clearing out room to try and get Howard. However, I think they’d need to trade Gasol and Bynum and picks to make that happen, which I’d be okay with.
by guy incognito on Dec 11, 2011 10:37 AM EST up reply actions
If
LA is not getting Paul and has to give up Bynum and Gasol to get Howard, considering they have also lost Odom, I think losing there 3 towers which was there great weapons and key to there success in recent years I think its a net loss for LA at least in the short term…depending on any one else they try to acquire of course.
Any one else think so?
Odom is a head case; no great loss
Gasol is not gone yet, so have to see what they can get for him
DH is better than Bynum, and far more durable, but I doubt Bynum is enough to get DH
To me, DH could be a huge force if he would stick to defense and rebounding. But my sense is that he wants to be a big cog in the offense. That, I think, detracts from his proper focus and his value.
still a good player, of course, but super scary
by Frank Malzone on Dec 11, 2011 12:25 PM EST up reply actions
I had read that they'd try to use the TPE to take Hedo's bad contract
And then try to trade Bynum (and Gasol?) for Howard. Those things combined are a very strong package.
mav's had an interesting offseason so far
let barea and chandler go and replaced them with odom and vince carter.
as for the lakers, from what i hear odom asked for a trade after the 1st paul trade got vetoed. mav’s had cap space and a pick to trade. will be interesting to see if the lakers use their two exceptions and on whom
by craziness@analltimehigh on Dec 11, 2011 10:56 AM EST up reply actions
I think the Mavs did a good job,
under the circumstances of losing Chandler.
If Carter can give them some decent production ( it is a question) and Odom plays to his potential they could have yet another shot at a title this year I think
Thats exactly what I want to no
by Hamoozeh on Dec 11, 2011 10:54 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
there are a lot of rumours
they still cant agree on whom the player accompining JO will be.
If the fourth year can be guaranteed.
if the hornets are making other trades for CP with other teams.
If they can trade JO to another team (the hornets).
If the pacers are making a better offer for West.
i think because JO said he will retire or ask for a buyout
the original trade was JO and bradley or pavs…since JO said this ive seen that its JO, JJ and moore and if thats the case i dont want this deal to happen
by craziness@analltimehigh on Dec 11, 2011 10:57 AM EST up reply actions
I wish somebody'd call these players' bluff on this retirement threat business
If they’re stupid (and short-sighted) enough to just throw away 6M because their feelings are hurt, simply let them retire. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. I doubt many would actually follow through on it. At the end of the day, $6M is 6M. You could help yourself and a lot of family members with that kind of money.
Maybe
with lakers out of CP3 deal, maybe DA is going after him again with Indiana as a third team. CP3 to Boston, West to Pacers. I just don’t see both going to Boston but hey DA might know something.
Maybe is right.
Sudenly Indi is in the mix and we are triying to get Cp3 and indi West. But I don’t want Cp3 anymore I want to go after Howard better.
David West is gone!
The Pacers can offer more money and it doesn’t make any sense to offer a player $29 million after coming off ACL surgery. As for CP3 he’s made it clear he’s not coming to Boston regardless. Let it go, Ainge.
I like the moves Danny made on Friday he can continue to build the bench around the starters with the current money.
But there's still a chance
Because DWest wants to play for a ring and Indy is no where near that
