Celtics Scrimmage - Basketball Is Back

It wasn't a real game, it wasn't even a preseason game, but it also wasn't lockout updates, so we're officially headed in the right direction.

Celtics scrimmage: Avery Bradley and E’Twaun Moore thrill ‘em at the end

Back-up point guard Avery Bradley hit a baseline jumper as time expired to lift the Green team to a 52-51 win over the White in an intrasquad scrimmage for the Boston Celtics Friday night before about 4,000 fans at TD Garden. Rookie E’Twaun Moore‘s three-pointer with 0.8 seconds remaining had given the white team, featuring Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo the lead before Bradley’s game-winning shot. A portly Mike Sweetney, weighing in at well over 320 pounds, put the White up, 48-46, with just over 50 seconds remaining as the two sides exchanged buckets in a furious finish before an appreciative crowd.

Yay Green team! Get 'em next time White.

Is Sweetney a baskeball player, or a front line football player at that weight?

LOL

He’d have to be an offensive lineman.

No defense.

Im starting to think Bradley vs Moore may become a reoccurring theme

I look forward to seeing them battle for mins, I have a feeling they are somewhat around the same level, which hopefully is a lot better than what we’ve seen from AB thus far. Oh and about Sweentney, in this article they say hes well over 320 but officially hes is listed at around 260. 60lbs is a big difference, I really wonder which one is more valid. At 6’8" its really hard to imagine a player being 320lbs and being able to run and jump.

There is no way Sweetney weighs 260 pounds

Not sure about 320 though. He is HUGE, and that is not an exaggeration.

Yeah, he looked ~290 the last Celtic training camp he was here in (2009?)

And he looks bigger now.

He’s horrible on defense. But he is fun to watch on offense. When he gets his groove going, Sweetney can pound bodies and score under the post as good as anyone. He’s like a shorter, rounder Al Jefferson!

I didn't see the scrimmage, but from the sound of it--

—including Bradley’s play last year and Moore’d play in Europe, ET is ready to start the year with the C’s and some spot minutes, while AB could benefit from heavy playing time with the Red Claws for a month or two.

Moore looked very confident on the ball either looking to score, shooting or setting teammates up.

You can absolutely tell that those four years at Purdue helped him develop his game to a really high level. Very skilled all around. Good size for a combo guard and he seemed to be very solid defensively. He’s not jumping off the screen with his athleticism but he’s no slouch either.

With Bradley he’s a pure athlete. He’s very quick and explosive. He still has a bit of indecisiveness but it’s still very early in the season and Bradley is still in the course of his development.

If I had to guess I’d say both player will have a chance to earn minutes and perhaps Moore will have an edge in that department early. But Bradley will find minutes with this team because his potential is great.

Yep.

I think Moore is looking like a steal. You can tell by Doc’s words that he really likes him in camp so far.

I also think both players are going to contribute this year.

It was kinda cool that they traded big shots to end the scrimmage!

That’s gotta be a confidence booster for both – and for Doc.

Sweetney is another one of those sad stories

The guy has solid basketball skills, but because he cannot stop eating and stay in shape, he will never have a career in the NBA. I honestly thought it was embarrassing that he was on the court tonight.

by vinnie on Dec 16, 2011 11:19 PM EST reply actions

I can never understand

These guys are professional athletes. They’re paid millions of dollars to stay in shape and yet they can’t keep the motivation to do so. Sweetney is costing himself millions of dollars in order to eat a few extra slices of pizza. That is expensive pizza. I can understand if you’re fat and have a hard time losing weight, because it takes a lot of motivation, but I just don’t understand how when he’s getting paid to do it he can’t.

Stiemsma blocked one shot from Sweetney

That’s it. Honestly, I did not see much from him. But, I also did not expect much.

We'll be seeing More from Moore

He looks to be solid for a 2nd round pick, extremely positive looking for his shot. That time in Treviso I think was a good move. Hopefully some of his aura will rub off on JJJ.

Also Quis, Bass and Wilcox (lesser degree Dooling) look to be a REALLY solid bench group, hopefully J green is back soon!! And from the vIdeo posted on Reds Army our boy Wilcox can elevate man, so fast getting to rim. When was the last time we had a legit 6ft10 big on the bench ready to get to the rim at every opportunity.

Really excited for the season, if we keep the injuries away there is no way we don’t reach the conference finals at the very least.

I didn't see too much except the end by my top 5 observations

J3 – looked pretty good to me….lean and smooth
Wilcox – better than i thought he would be..had a great shot from paint after a feed from J3
Moore – impressive shooting and looks strong…wow
Bass – I didn’t see him do anything really
Steamy Stigmata – better than I thought…nice blocks and can shoot (even FT’s!)

BUT…merely a scrimmage ….the fact I could watch it on the internet after a very long day…priceless …

Is it Soup Yet?

by Master Po on Dec 17, 2011 8:35 AM EST reply actions

stigmata lol love it

yeah kid has a nice stroke from the FT line. shot 80% in the d-league. always nice to have from a big. bass is also 80% FT shooter and pretty sure J3 will be around that too

Marquis

He looked really good in the clip cited above. He made some terrific passes that resulted in scores.

+1

Love ’Quis’s game and the fact that he’s back after that terrible injury last year. He is a great asset off the bench and knows the team and system. Excellent move by Ainge to bring him back into the fold.

I thought Quis looked great.

He still has that sneaky way of sliding through traffic and getting into the post.

He had a very nice post-up play on Ray as well..
