Finalizing the Roster & Other Notes
Christmas is coming and the team has 13 players under guaranteed contracts. There are additional camp invites and there will need to be at least a few cuts soon.
Camp notes: Paul Pierce may not be ready for opening day
Rivers said the Celtics would probably settle on a final 15 either before or immediately after Wednesday’s exhibition game. With 13 players on guaranteed contracts, they have two roster spots available. If they stay in-house, big man Greg Stiemsma and rookie guard Gilbert Brown would probably have the inside track. They could also start the season with one or both spots open and see who becomes available.
In another article, Flannery goes on to describe a few options for the team to explore further in the free agent market.
As noted below on this blog, Paul Pierce is out for the last preseason game and might not start on Christmas day but isn't expected to miss much more time than that - but we'll see.
Also, Doc Rivers has a man-crush on Keyon Dooling. Just thought you'd like to know.
Apparently Ray Allen ruffled a few feathers by saying he was surprised that David West signed with the Pacers. Update: In semi-related news, Reggie Evans decided to take the vet minimum from the Clippers rather than the Celtics or other teams. Sounds like the days of luring top talent for the chance to play with the Big 3 are over.
Finally, Glen Davis seems happy to be out from KG's shadow, or something like that.

Keith Bogans
I wonder if he would come here for the vet min.? I really liked what I saw from him in Chicago and if I’m not mistaken, didn’t Dooling and Bogans play together in Orlando? That would be a great second unit of Dooling/Bogans/Daniels/Bass/Wilcox. Make it happen Danny!
Start with these guys
There will be chances later to tweak the roster in the area coming up short of expectations
+1
Agree. Stephenson and Pryzbilla would be very good pick ups. I like Stephenson’s game more than Bogans. We need a shooter coming off the bench.
D. Stephenson
Stephenson can guard both LeBron and Wade and can hit the corner 3.
Plus he seems to be able to get into LeBron’s head fairly easily.
DeShawn would be invaluable against the Heat.
Pryzbilla
I think he is seriously injured right now and contemplating retirement. I like his game also but…….don’t need another cripple.
I'm not the Devil's Advocate but I consiider him a close friend
Stevenson and Steimsma
I think we need another shooter too but I’m not a huge fan of Stevenson. Let’s see if Moore can handle 10 minutes/game before bringing in a guy like that.
Steimsma – the guy was no good in college because he was mentally ill – severely depressed. He’s all straightened out now so who knows? May be a decent backup center by the end of the season.

The story on Big baby and the subsequent picture of him on the article itself made me feel for the first time : Good Riddance!
Is it Soup Yet?
Agreed
It’s fairly obvious that BBD wants to be a starter and that’s more important to him at this point in his career than anything the Celtics could’ve offered. From what i see of Bass so far, I like the trade. No ego, hard worker, more athletic, better rebounder, better jump shooter…I hope BBD gets what he wants, but he’s the enemy now and my money is on Bass and the C’s.

Outside (MN) fan: That deal was a flat-out steal for Boston.
Bass is the superior player in basically every way. I don’t understand the motive from Orlando’s point of view, unless Bass somehow rubbed Dwight the wrong way.
"Opinion ...a confession."
I like BBD
He did win some games for us and provided some good highlights. He probably didn’t leave us very well but a free agent rarely leaves well from any team.
Any chance we can sign
EARL BARRON
it has been reported that he has been cut from the blazers, i mean he is a legit Centre and since we need a guy like him we should atleast have a look at him!
dalembert
the kings renounced him, does that mean he can’t be signed and traded? if he could, we could send JO and a pick for him. and dalembert seems open to a 1 or 2-year deal, so we could trade him this offseason and get our pick back if we liked.
Reggie Evans decided to take the vet minimum from the Clippers rather than the Celtics or other teams. Sounds like the days of luring top talent for the chance to play with the Big 3 are over.
Reggie Evans is talented? I must of missed something!
I disagree Jeff Clark
I can’t recall the Celtics luring top agents after KG and Allen arrived. When KG and Allen arrived in 2008, Danny Ainge added guys like Powe, Posey, Davis, House, Pollard, Scal, Cassell, and Brown. I would not consider see these guys top-tier talent, but they were blue-collar players that worked hard.
In 2009 and 2010 the Celtics lacked depth with the bench. In 2011 the bench was a much better upgrade, but Danny added rookie and veteran depth guys like Shaq, Jermaine, Delonte, Luke, and Erden. The reason why free agents don’t come to Boston, because they feel like they will not get playing time.

It would be great if the C's could address the center and SF positions...
I like the look of this season’s bench. I think Danny added guys that are tough and athletic enough to keep up with younger legs. Down side is the Celts lost Jeff Green to an illness that could not be avoided.
Jeff Green was more of the veritable wings backing up Pierce. I would hope Ainge and Doc address that void. It’s better that Reggie Evans signed w/Clippers because the Celtics do not need another PF or undersized PF.
The Celtics need to add more size behind Jermaine, but it concerns me that Doc and Danny does not see lack of centers as an issue. I think JO should have a healthy big man backing him.
A few teams look good on paper, but teams must prove their worth on the court.
